Vijayawada: AP Police Seva mobile application, once a key digital platform for lodging complaints, verifying social media news, and accessing a host of citizen services, is currently non-functional and has been removed from both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
The disruption began during the 2024 general elections and marks the second such outage—earlier seen during the arrest of TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu in September 2023.
Launched in September 2020, the app was designed to reduce physical visits to police stations by enabling online complaint registration, tracking case progress, paying challans, and availing other services. It offered 85 features, including requesting home surveillance during absence, background verification for employees or tenants, and real-time updates on public safety.
One of its standout components focused on women's safety, offering GPS-enabled alerts about high-risk areas based on geo-tagged crime data. The platform was widely praised for promoting citizen-friendly policing and bridging the gap between the police and the public.
The sudden unavailability of the app has forced citizens to revert to traditional methods of police interaction, slowing down grievance redressal and affecting transparency.

Speaking to TOI, CH Srikanth, inspector general of police, technical services, said, "The app is currently being upgraded with new services and is under testing via the Google Play Store. After over two weeks of testing, the app will go live to the public and will also be launched on iOS devices."
He added that in the meantime, citizens can access the services previously available on the app through the AP Government's WhatsApp governance number.

Declare it under oath, CEOs of 3 states challenge Rahul Gandhi

NEW DELHI: The chief electoral officers (CEO) of Karnataka, Maharashtra and Haryana, reacting to Rahul Gandhi 's allegations of "massive voter fraud" during the 2024 Lok Sabha poll in Karnataka and the latest assembly polls in Maharashtra and Haryana, have said they would initiate the necessary proceedings after he declares under oath that he believes the wrongful inclusions and exclusions cited by him to be "true to the best of his knowledge and belief". "You are kindly requested to sign and return the enclosed declaration/oath under Rule 20(3)(b) of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, along with the name(s) of such elector(s) so that necessary proceedings can be initiated," the three CEOs said in separate letters sent to Rahul. EC sources said the CEOs were expecting to receive the signed declarations from Rahul by Thursday evening. "Else, they will keep reminding him to submit these at the earliest, so his claims can be investigated," said a commission official. "Rahul should either sign the declaration and preferably post it on social media, or stop misleading the people with baseless allegations against EC. Why is he running away from signing the oath, which is being sought in accordance with the rules? The law is the same for a politician and any other citizen," the official told TOI. Rule 20(3)b of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960 states that the registration officer may require that the evidence tendered by a person regarding wrongful inclusion/exclusion from the roll, be given on oath. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This Could Be the Best Time to Trade Gold in 5 Years IC Markets Learn More Undo The evidence sought from Rahul under his oath must include the name of the person cited for inclusion/exclusion, his part number of electoral roll and his serial number in the roll. Rahul must also declare that he understands that presenting false evidence or making a false declaration in connection with the electoral roll shall invite a jail term of up to three years (seven years if the false claims are repeated in court) under Section 227/229 of BNS and up to a year's imprisonment under Section 31 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950. The Karnataka CEO is due to meet a Congress delegation in Bengaluru on Friday. Sources said he would insist on a signed declaration before the alleged "voter fraud" can be probed. Notwithstanding the allegations, the election results in the three states will hold since the window for filing a challenge via an election petition is long over. Significantly, Congress was given copies of the draft as well as final electoral roll for Karnataka, Haryana and Maharashtra ahead of the last LS/assembly polls, but not a single appeal was filed against entries in the final roll at the level of the district magistrate or the CEO. Incidentally, a Congress govt was in office in Karnataka during the annual summary revision of the Karnataka roll ahead of the LS polls. The officials involved in roll revision - electoral registration officers (EROs), assistant EROs, booth level officers (BLOs), etc - are essentially state govt officials, though under the superintendence of EC for the duration of the roll update.

NEET rank 810: Cops help farmer's son dream big

1 2 Kolkata: Ankan Mondal, son of a marginal farmer in Swarupnagar, North 24 Parganas, conquered multiple hurdles to achieve a rank of 810 in NEET, but his dream of becoming a doctor could have been dashed had it not been for Basirhat Police. At a time, when Ankan's higher education hanged in balance, Basirhat SP Hossain Mehdi Rehman and his team stepped in and promised help. Cops on Thursday presented Ankan with a laptop, a stethoscope, several medical education essentials and a fund, personally contributed by police personnel, at the Basirhat District Police HQ. Ankan is yet to process that his medical education would finally be a reality. "There was a time when I felt hopeless but I never let go of the belief that I would find a way to study medicine. But I never expected police officers to come forward to support me. Their help has given me a new sense of purpose. Now, my goal is to become a successful doctor not only to make my parents proud but also to honour the trust the officers have put in me," he said. Mining dept on month-long drive to recover fines, verify data

1 2 Jaipur: State's Department of Mines and Geology (DMG) began a month-long statewide campaign on Aug 2 to recover pending fines and tighten oversight in the mining sector. The department's director, Deepak Tanwar, issued strict instructions to all mining engineers and assistant mining engineers, calling for immediate action and accountability. Under the 30-day drive, officers have been directed to recover fines listed in various inspection reports. Daily progress reports must be submitted to the vigilance wing through respective zonal heads. Serious irregularities were identified in the Department of Mines and Geology Online Monitoring System (DMGOMS). According to a senior official, "Some engineers made illegal stock entries amounting to lakhs of tonnes without any actual mineral dispatch, causing substantial revenue loss. Less than 2% of the total penalties mentioned in inspection reports had been recovered so far." The misuse of e-Ravanna permits and weighbridges also raised concerns. In several cases, vehicles were shown as weighed and confirmed within just two minutes, despite routes covering up to 40 kilometres. Empty weighbridges were found issuing valid permits, and in some instances, permits from closed mines were misused to transport illegally mined minerals. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Upto 15% Discount for Salaried Individuals ICICI Pru Life Insurance Plan Get Quote Undo Tanwar instructed officials to carry out online verification of weighbridge data and initiate action against leaseholders and weighbridge operators involved in malpractice. "Any further lapses will result in disciplinary action against the responsible mining officers," the directive warned. The department also found that some officers, while preparing inspection reports against illegal mining, failed to cancel the corresponding mining leases. In some cases, proceedings under the Land Revenue Act (LR Act) were initiated despite leases still being active—an attempt seen as misleading higher authorities. DMG clarified that such action must only follow formal lease cancellation. Officers have now been asked to cancel non-compliant leases promptly, take possession, and proceed with auctions. Long-pending LR Act files in several offices have also drawn criticism. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
