Since then, more clips have surfaced across social media showing the crew vibing in studio sessions, instantly sparking a wave of excitement among fans hungry for fresh sounds.
Let's pause for a moment. If you're wondering who Trompies are and why this comeback is such a big deal, let us bring you up to speed.
Formed in 1994 in Soweto, Trompies was one of the earliest and most influential Kwaito groups in SA.
Kwaito, often described as the sound of post-apartheid youth culture, found its true voice through groups like Trompies. They weren't just making music - they were shaping an era.
The original line-up included Mofokeng, Eugene "Donald Duck" Mthethwa, Jairus "Jakarumba" Nkwe, Zynne "Mahoota" Sibika and Emmanuel 'Mjokes' Matsane. Tragically, Matsane passed away in May 2021 following a car accident after a performance in Soweto.
Despite the loss, the group has continued to honour his legacy and remains active in the music scene.
Trompies burst onto the scene with their 1995 debut album 'Sigiya Ngengoma", which sold over half a million copies and cemented their place in Kwaito history.
With infectious beats, authentic township stories and their signature isiPantsula aesthetic - a cultural dance and fashion movement - Trompies didn't just make hits, they created a lifestyle.
Beyond their music, the group has also been instrumental behind the scenes.
Through their work with Kalawa Jazmee Records, they've helped discover, develop and manage some of SA's most successful acts.
Their tenth studio album, 'Delicious', which was released in 2014, not only kept the groove going but also earned them nominations at the South African Music Awards (Samas) and the 2021 Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards.
Now, after decades of defining and redefining the sound of the streets, Trompies are cooking up something new - and fans are wondering: will it tap into the current wave of Amapiano or the fast-rising 3-Step sound?
While the group hasn't confirmed the sonic direction of the new project, one thing's for sure: whatever they drop will come with the same authenticity, energy and pantsula swagger they've always been known for.
So while we wait, now's the perfect time to dust off those Chuck Taylor All-Stars, pull out your best pantsula moves and prepare for a fresh dose of Trompies' magic. The legends are back - and the groove never left.

You just can't go wrong with this delicious, creamy cake. Time Square's Sous Chef Cynthia Supplied Time Square's Sous Chef Cynthia Bombe has shared her speciality in honour of National Cheesecake Day in the US, although you can indulge in the passion fruit cheesecake any time you please. 'When I was a child growing up in Diepkloof, Soweto, I used to help my mom bake scones and jam tarts, which she sold. So that is where my passion for baking comes from, and I decided to pursue it as a career,' says Bombe, who holds a chef's certificate in Food Preparation from the HTA School of Culinary Art. 'I love pastry, it is my passion. I didn't have any experience when I joined Time Square, I had to adapt and fell in love with it. You have to be patient working in this part of the kitchen.' Bombe paid tribute to Time Square's executive sous chef, Nonkosi Vellem, 'who showed me almost everything I know'. Today, Bombe is a supervisor, working with banqueting, sometimes preparing up to 1 000 plates at a time. 'I oversee functions, making sure the food is out on time and that there are no complaints. I have to delegate to the junior chefs and also manage orders to ensure stock continuity.' Calitzdorp man aims to braai his way to a Guinness World Record

Calitzdorp braai enthusiast Gielie Basson is preparing to fire up the coals as he sets his sights on breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest continuous braai. Scheduled to run from 24 to 28 September 2025, the event aims to hit the 100-hour mark, surpassing the current record of 80 hours, which was set by fellow South African Jan Greeff in 2014. This will be Basson's second official attempt. In 2023, he braaied for more than 84 hours, but a technical glitch with timekeeping disqualified the effort. 'In 2023, I tried, but Guinness World Records said that trying is the best gun. I didn't get the record, and that's why I'm going to try one last time in September,' Basson said. View this post on Instagram A post shared by GielieBraai (@gieliebraai) Beyond the record attempt, Basson is using the event to galvanise community spirit. He is encouraging South Africans to support the cause in their own way – whether in Calitzdorp or from their homes. 'They can braai boerewors, make hotdogs, and sell them. The profits can be donated to my charity, Gamka Oos Primary School, or to a charity of their choice,' he said. Known for its wine farms and scenic beauty, Calitzdorp is hoping to benefit from the publicity surrounding the event. Basson believes his attempt can help spotlight the town's charm and community warmth. 'Join us in Calitzdorp in support of my record attempt or braai at your home, and let's show the world how South Africa's 'ubuntu' really works,' he urged. Basson and his team are working closely with event coordinators and Guinness World Records officials to ensure all regulations are met this time around, including timekeeping, food safety, and rest periods. Whether or not the record is broken, the fire of community and charity will keep burning – just the way Gielie Basson likes it. 'ShxtsNGigs' bring the heat - and the haters -with 'Daddy's Home' SA tour

ShxtsNGigs are set to land in South Africa for their 'Daddy's Home' tour amid the mixed reviews. Image: Instagram The 'ShxtsNGigs' podcast duo, James Duncan and Fuhad Dawodu, have revealed that they are bringing their 'Daddy's Home' tour to South Africa, but not everyone is excited. Known for their unapologetic humour and viral content, they will be taking their podcast live to Johannesburg and Cape Town in 2026. The pair are also notorious for their brutally honest and sidesplitting commentary on their 'Icks' and 'Twitter Hall of Fame' segments, where they discuss sex, relationships and everything pop culture. The 'ShxtsNGigs' podcast has gained immense popularity over the years, entertaining millions with their unfiltered takes and infectious laughs. The pair took to their social media with an announcement promo video, which shows them in a private jet video calling talented South African dancer Robot Boii, asking him to teach them some local moves. The announcement, however, has been met with mixed reactions from fans and people who have consumed their previous content and did not find it tasteful. Back in 2023, Duncan and Dawodu rubbed some South African netizens the wrong way when they poked fun at how South African Twitter (formerly X) interacts online. During their 'Twitter Hall of Fame' segment, they were discussing a viral thread where people shared when they realised their supposed friends hated them. The duo zeroed in on a particularly striking confession: 'When she moved in with my boyfriend.' They then noted how it was a South African thread where people would start their tweets in English, then proceed to end it in their native language, calling it 'gibberish' and 'mouth noise'. They added that it made them feel left out because they, too, want to understand the rest of the tweet. This understandably upset many South Africans who called the podcast hosts out for insulting their diverse culture. The duo later apologised after the backlash, citing that they use the term 'gibberish' for anything they don't understand. Now, with their announcement, some of their fans are excited and are hoping to get their hands on the tickets before they are sold out, while others are just not comprehending why the duo is coming to Mzansi after their offensive comments X user @GoldenMazinyo commented: 'Yo! It's not a good idea for you to waltz into South Africa and expect us to forget the 'gibberish' chat. We have no place for ignorant, pompous, uncultured black Europeans who insult other people's languages for sh*ts and giggles.' 'I really hope nobody buys those tickets after the vile language y'all used against South Africans and their languages,' said @Alwayshurtman. The tour is set to kick off on January 24, 2026, at The Golden Dome in Johannesburg and then to the Grand Arena, GrandWes, in Cape Town on January 27.
