Orlando Pirates news: Star departure looms, big deal signed
The transfer window has been anything but quiet for Orlando Pirates. After a busy off-season filled with arrivals, two major stories continue to dominate headlines — one involving a star on his way out, and another about a contract renewal within the squad. Relebohile Mofokeng could soon be on his way to Europe. The 20-year-old's standout performances have caught the eye of several major clubs abroad, with PSV Eindhoven leading the charge. He even scored during Pirates' final match of their European tour, a 2-0 victory over Granada. Insiders say the Dutch side is ready to invest heavily. 'R100 million is like a round figure. It's more than that!' one source revealed. 'The amount they were negotiating for was initially R120 million. You know it's not exactly what you want that you get, and that's why they are talking about the R100 million.' This comes after PSV reportedly cooled interest in another South African forward, now choosing to pursue a long-term deal for Mofokeng. A second source added, 'There are different scouts from Holland believed to be working with recruiters for PSV. They enquired about [Iqraam] Rayners but now it's clear they're focused on Mofokeng.' As that potential move gathers momentum, Orlando Pirates are also shoring up the squad's experience. A new deal for veteran midfielder Makhehlene Makhaula is reportedly done, pending the club's official announcement. His agent, Sizwe Ntshangase, confirmed the deal was all but sealed. 'I don't like to talk too much about the contract of a player I represent,' he said, 'but our discussions with Pirates have gone very well, to the satisfaction of both parties.' Orlando Pirates receive R43 million offer for Mofokeng!
Orlando Pirates superstar Relebohile Mofokeng continues to make headlines. Orlando Pirates recently shut down rumours that PSV Eindhoven had a R120 million offer for Relebohile Mofokeng. However, new reports have emerged stating that a club in the Middle East is interested in securing the skilful Bucs attackers signature. Yet again, big money is being reported. This time, over R40 million has reportedly been tabled for the Pirates attacker and fan favourite. Pirates have reportedly received an offer of over R43-million for Mofokeng from a club in the Middle East. 'Bucs are, however, understood to have received another offer, this time in excess of $2.5 million (R44.3 million) for Mofokeng from the Middle East. This is more than what the Tel Aviv club is reported to have wanted to pay, according to Israeli media,' the insider stated on SNL . As mentioned, this is more than they were originally planning to offer. Meaning, if these reports are true, they are quite serious about signing Mofokeng. Furthermore, further reports claim that a club in Europe is interested. Israeli outfit, Tel Aviv are the other side interested in signing Mofokeng. Tel Aviv director Domic Price sees Mofokeng as a big part of his plans for the Israeli-based side. 'Sources with an expertise in the Israeli football market have informed the Siya crew that the club's Sporting Director, Dominic Price, envisions the 20-year-old South African playing a significant role for the team,' the insider concluded. Moreover, Price sentiment is supported by the club. 'Now, a Siya source close to the player has indicated that The Yellows remain huge admirers of the Sharpeville native and believe that a move to Bloomfield Stadium could present him with an introduction to European football,' the insider added. The SA-born director is serious about bringing Mofokeng to Israel. Given his talent and skills, it comes as no surprise that there is reported persistence for Mofokeng's signature. Orlando Pirates news: Mofokeng, Saleng, Makhaula, Appollis
Orlando Pirates wrapped up their European pre-season tour with a 2-0 win over Spanish side Granada, but attention quickly shifted from the result to Relebohile Mofokeng. The 20-year-old midfielder scored in the final fixture, potentially marking the end of his Buccaneers journey. Mofokeng is drawing interest from heavyweights across the globe, including Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven, Al Ahly, and FC Cincinnati. 'R100 million is like a round figure. It's more than that! The amount they were negotiating for was initially R120 million,' an insider revealed. 'You know it's not exactly what you want that you get, and that's why they are talking about the R100 million, but it's believed to be more than that.' Scouts from the Netherlands are reportedly working closely with PSV recruiters. While the Eredivisie outfit had their eyes on Iqraam Rayners, the club now views Mofokeng as a long-term investment worth pursuing. While one star could be on his way out, Monnapule Saleng has returned to Orbit College in a surprising move that has sparked debates among supporters. 'I am very happy to be back home,' said Saleng. 'I thank God for giving me strength and aligning me with a return to Orbit. Because being home is something that brings happiness.' Meanwhile, veteran midfielder Makhehlene Makhaula is staying put. Contract talks have gone well, confirmed his agent, Sizwe Ntshangase. 'Our discussions with Pirates have gone very well, to the satisfaction of both parties. It is up to Pirates to issue an official statement.' All this comes as the Soweto giants enjoy one of their most active transfer windows in recent years, already adding more than eleven players, including exciting attacker Oswin Appollis, who seems to be settling in nicely. Orlando Pirates star reportedly receives R44.3m bid from Saudi
Orlando Pirates' Relebohile Mofokeng continues to attract serious attention from abroad, with Israeli champions Maccabi Tel Aviv intensifying their pursuit of the highly-rated youngster. A source close to the negotiations revealed that Tel Aviv remain determined to land the 20-year-old South African, despite previous denials surrounding their reported interest. 'The Yellows' reportedly view Mofokeng as a marquee signing who could ease into European football at Bloomfield Stadium. Maccabi Tel Aviv Sporting Director Dominic Price believes Mofokeng can play a pivotal role in their ongoing football project. Price, who spent years developing talent at Liverpool, including the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Curtis Jones, has set his sights on the Sharpeville-born attacker. The Israeli club's interest isn't new, but its persistence shows no signs of waning. According to the insider, 'Dominic Price wants Mofokeng as part of his long-term plan to strengthen the team and provide a platform into Europe.' Pirates remain reluctant but bigger offers are rolling in Despite the admiration from Tel Aviv, Orlando Pirates haven't been swayed. The Soweto giants reportedly rejected an earlier offer, viewing it as below their valuation. However, a new bid exceeding R44.3 million has now landed, this time from a Middle Eastern club believed to be Al Ettifaq. That offer surpasses what Maccabi Tel Aviv reportedly tabled, as confirmed by Israeli media outlets. Speculation around Mofokeng's future continues to swirl. The Buccaneers have yet to respond publicly to the latest developments, even as pressure mounts both financially and strategically. Last week, multiple reports suggested that Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven planned to outbid all current suitors. However, Pirates were quick to issue a public statement denying any received offer. Sources close to PSV also indicated they had not submitted a formal bid. But confirmed there was intent to explore a potential move. Though no concrete European offers have been tabled. The continued interest from top-flight clubs suggests that it may only be a matter of time before a formal bid arrives. Where should the Orlando Pirates star go? Let's pause for a moment. If you're wondering who Trompies are and why this comeback is such a big deal, let us bring you up to speed. Formed in 1994 in Soweto, Trompies was one of the earliest and most influential Kwaito groups in SA. Kwaito, often described as the sound of post-apartheid youth culture, found its true voice through groups like Trompies. They weren't just making music - they were shaping an era. The original line-up included Mofokeng, Eugene "Donald Duck" Mthethwa, Jairus "Jakarumba" Nkwe, Zynne "Mahoota" Sibika and Emmanuel 'Mjokes' Matsane. Tragically, Matsane passed away in May 2021 following a car accident after a performance in Soweto. Despite the loss, the group has continued to honour his legacy and remains active in the music scene. Trompies burst onto the scene with their 1995 debut album 'Sigiya Ngengoma", which sold over half a million copies and cemented their place in Kwaito history. With infectious beats, authentic township stories and their signature isiPantsula aesthetic - a cultural dance and fashion movement - Trompies didn't just make hits, they created a lifestyle. Beyond their music, the group has also been instrumental behind the scenes. Through their work with Kalawa Jazmee Records, they've helped discover, develop and manage some of SA's most successful acts. Their tenth studio album, 'Delicious', which was released in 2014, not only kept the groove going but also earned them nominations at the South African Music Awards (Samas) and the 2021 Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards. Now, after decades of defining and redefining the sound of the streets, Trompies are cooking up something new - and fans are wondering: will it tap into the current wave of Amapiano or the fast-rising 3-Step sound? While the group hasn't confirmed the sonic direction of the new project, one thing's for sure: whatever they drop will come with the same authenticity, energy and pantsula swagger they've always been known for. So while we wait, now's the perfect time to dust off those Chuck Taylor All-Stars, pull out your best pantsula moves and prepare for a fresh dose of Trompies' magic. The legends are back - and the groove never left.
