OMODA & JAECOO Ignite a New Chapter at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show: From Seed to Speed, the Future Is Now
OMODA & JAECOO, the global innovation-driven automotive duo, is set to redefine the future of mobility at the 2025 Shanghai International Auto Show, unveiling a bold new chapter under the campaign theme '2 Years 2gather: From Seed to Speed'.
Marking the brand's second anniversary since its world premiere at the 2023 Shanghai Auto Show, OMODA & JAECOO will debut its full next-generation New Energy Vehicle (NEV) lineup— J7 SHS, C7 SHS, C5 SHS, and J5 BEV—alongside a visionary, immersive brand experience that blends futuristic innovation with refined off-road lifestyle.
Shawn Xu, CEO of OMODA & JAECOO Automobile International, commented on the brand's strategic expansion: 'Shanghai is where it all began, and today, we return stronger, bolder, and more connected to the world than ever before. From just an idea to a global movement in two years—this is what we mean by 'from seed to speed.' But this show is not just about vehicles. It is about how we move, how we connect, and how we live. With our full NEV lineup and the launch of immersive brand ecosystems, we are introducing a new lifestyle paradigm built around innovation, experience, and global collaboration.'
A Journey Accelerated: NEV Lineup Debut at the Origin of Innovation
The brand's NEV family makes its full debut with the OMODA C7 SHS, featuring the advanced Super Hybrid System (SHS) and targeting a driving range of up to 1,250 km; the OMODA C5 SHS, a sleek, intelligent crossover tailored for urban mobility; and the JAECOO J5 BEV, a fully electric outdoor SUV designed for refined off-road experiences.
At the core of these innovations is the proprietary SHS architecture, which integrates a fifth-generation 1.5TGDI Dedicated Hybrid Engine with a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT). The
system delivers 340 horsepower, 44.5% thermal efficiency, and up to 1,200 km of comprehensive range—establishing a new benchmark in global hybrid mobility. Proven in real-world conditions through the 'Super Hybrid Marathon' series, the technology has achieved endurance records of up to 1,613.1 km in high-altitude and multi-terrain environments including Southeast Asia, the Philippines, and Mexico.
Immersive Brand Ecosystems: O-LAB and J-LAND
Debuting on April 25 during the Global Dealer Conference, the brand will introduce O-LAB × J-LAND, an immersive dual-brand experience that represents two distinct lifestyle universes—one rooted in intelligent technology and the other in outdoor exploration.
O-LAB transports visitors to a futuristic digital metropolis. Robots, robotic dogs, drones, and interactive LED installations create a multi-sensory environment inspired by galactic architecture. The experience features the global debut of the OMODA E5—the brand's first all-electric model—and the C7 SHS. In parallel, the C3 Cyber Mecha Art Gallery offers a next-generation digital installation designed to captivate Gen Z audiences with dynamic light-based storytelling.
J-LAND, in contrast, recreates a refined outdoor world, with sculpted terrain and natural landscapes that spotlight the brand's off-road capabilities. The exhibit features the J5 BEV, J7 SHS, and J8 SHS positioned in dynamic terrain-inspired displays. A curated 'light camping' test drive will offer international media a hands-on journey from simulated urban settings to rugged wilderness, highlighting the performance and versatility of JAECOO's electrified outdoor lineup.
Strategic Momentum Anchored in Global Expansion
Since its launch in 2023, OMODA & JAECOO has expanded into 42 countries and regions, established over 1,300 global showrooms, and delivered more than 500,000 vehicles worldwide. Backed by Chery Group, the brand has built a robust foundation through its dual-product strategy—merging design-led crossover appeal with refined off-road performance—positioning itself as a leader in intelligent, efficient, and customer-centric mobility.
This year's return to Shanghai signals not just a celebration, but the next acceleration point in OMODA & JAECOO's 'Born Global, Born NEV' strategy—anchoring the future in a blend of electrification, lifestyle, and technology.

Chery Group climbs fortune 500, OMODA&JAECOO break industry record with 570,000 sales

OMODA&JAECOO, the dynamic automotive brands under Chery Group, have once again reinforced their global standing as Chery Group secured the 233rd position on the Fortune Global 500 list, climbing 152 places compared to last year. This milestone highlights the company's continued focus on innovation, global growth, and the rapid success of its new energy vehicles (NEVs). In just 26 months since their launch, OMODA&JAECOO have achieved over 570,000 cumulative global sales, becoming the fastest emerging brands in the industry to cross the half-million-unit milestone. In the first half of 2025, the brands' contribution to Chery Group's export volume grew to 37%, up from 21% in 2023. OMODA&JAECOO have quickly established themselves as global leaders in hybrid technology. In the first quarter of 2025, the brands' NEV sales surged by 460% year-on-year, with NEVs now accounting for 51% of total sales. The JAECOO J7 SHS (Super Hybrid System), the brands' flagship model equipped with proprietary SHS technology, has been the driving force behind this growth. The model continues to achieve monthly sales exceeding 10,000 units, leading the hybrid market in multiple regions and setting a benchmark for efficiency, performance, and sustainability. In the first half of 2025, Chery Group sold 1.26 million vehicles globally, up 14.5% year-on-year, and exported 550,000 vehicles — accounting for 20% of China's total automobile exports. A Chery-made vehicle is sold overseas every 29 seconds, showcasing the group's strong presence in international markets. Chery Group's NEV sales also reached 360,000 units, up 98.6% year-on-year, leading the industry in both volume and growth. Through cutting-edge innovations in hybrid technology, intelligent mobility, and safety systems, Chery and OMODA&JAECOO continue to provide consumers with smarter, greener, and more connected vehicles. At present, OMODA&JAECOO offer only petrol models in the UAE, but as one of the brand's key strategic markets, the country is set to benefit from its advanced hybrid offerings. The JAECOO J7 SHS (Super Hybrid System), scheduled for launch by the end of August, will be a major highlight for UAE consumers seeking performance, efficiency, and low environmental impact in urban driving conditions. With OMODA focused on becoming the leading global crossover brand and JAECOO shaping its identity as a refined urban SUV brand, both brands are positioned to meet the evolving demands of UAE customers. "Our new energy vehicles have been achieving strong sales performance in global markets, and this success on the global stage reflects our commitment to the UAE and wider Middle East markets. With advanced hybrid solutions and stylish, high-performance crossovers, OMODA&JAECOO will continue to deliver vehicles that align with the UAE's vision for sustainable mobility," said Shawn Xu, CEO of OMODA & JAECOO Automobile International. "In the UAE, we currently have the J7, J8, and C5 available. The J5 will be launched soon, and later this year, we will gradually roll out the J7 SHS (Super Hybrid System), J8 SHS, and C7 SHS," added Xu.

DMW orders closure of visa consulting firm over illegal recruitment

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has ordered the immediate shutdown of Visa to America Manila, Inc., a private visa consulting firm operating across the Philippines, over alleged illegal recruitment activities. DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac and Undersecretary Bernard Olalia led the enforcement of the closure order at the company's main office in Ortigas, Pasig City. Simultaneous operations were also conducted in its seven other branches located in Quezon City, Iloilo City, Cebu City, Davao City, Zamboanga City, Santiago City in Isabela, and in Washington D.C., United States. According to the DMW, the firm was engaged in recruitment for overseas employment without the necessary license. It had reportedly deployed over 50 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to the United States since 2022, offering teaching and hospitality jobs through J-1 and H-1B visa programs with salary promises ranging from $40,000 to $100,000. 'If they are matching workers with employers in the U.S., that constitutes overseas recruitment, which requires a DMW license. Without it, it is clearly a case of illegal recruitment,' Cacdac said. Visa to America Manila advertises itself as having 31 years of 'immigration expertise,' offering visa processing, consultancy, IT services, legal support, and mock interviews. However, DMW stressed that such activities cannot include recruitment without proper authorization. The agency said it will also look into the status of the OFWs who used the company's services to ensure compliance with labor and immigration laws. The US Embassy in Manila has recently implemented stricter measures in visa applications, including requiring all non-immigrant visa applicants to publicly set their social media accounts for background checks.

New Absa–BYD partnership targets EV finance growth in South Africa

Absa and Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD have signed a partnership agreement to expand green vehicle finance solutions in South Africa, targeting both retail customers and motor dealers. The move follows increased demand for new energy vehicles (NEVs) amid rising sustainability concerns. The deal was formalised at BYD's offices in Sandton, where representatives from both organisations outlined plans to establish a full-scale green vehicle finance ecosystem. Full-service financing for EV rollout Under the agreement, Absa will offer a suite of banking and financial services to BYD dealers and customers, including OEM and dealer wholesale finance, vehicle finance, insurance, and related value-added services. Absa currently works with 15 dealerships that stock BYD vehicles across South Africa. Charl Potgieter, managing executive for Absa Vehicle and Asset Finance, said the partnership aligns with the bank's goal of reaching carbon neutrality by 2050 and will help grow its sustainable finance portfolio. 'We recognise the growing demand for energy-efficient mobility solutions,' Potgieter said. Market growth and affordability still a challenge According to Naamsa, NEV sales in South Africa doubled in 2024 year on year, with further growth recorded in the first quarter of 2025. However, affordability and infrastructure remain obstacles to mass adoption. Absa's NEV finance portfolio, comprising both hybrid and electric vehicles, has seen growth off a low base in recent years, reflecting a gradual shift in consumer sentiment. BYD targets wider reach and lower entry point BYD, which sold over 4.2 million NEVs globally in 2024, offers vehicles at lower price points than many competitors. Its models include features such as vehicle-to-load functionality, which allows owners to power household devices from their cars. Steve Chang, general manager of BYD South Africa, said the partnership was based on three core values: affordability, accessibility and sustainability. 'We're introducing models at more competitive prices, expanding through Absa's network, and aiming to reduce emissions with every sale,' he said. Part of broader green strategy Absa said the partnership complements its broader green finance strategy, which includes backing Africa's largest standalone battery facility. The bank recently met its R100bn sustainable finance target a year ahead of schedule and aims to continue scaling up support for low-carbon initiatives.
