UFC Fans React To Retired Legend Being Officially Removed From Roster
Dustin Poirier officially retired after his unanimous decision loss to Max Holloway on Saturday, July 19, at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. The entire event was built around Poirier's retirement fight, and the energy in the building was felt throughout the card.
We all watched Poirier's heartfelt post-fight interview and the things he's said on the Ariel Helwani show and other media, but the finality of Poirier no longer fighting in MMA hit some UFC fans when UFC Roster News posted their update on X.
This was a GIF-heavy string of reactions. There are more than 125 comments on the post, and the vast majority of them feature someone weeping.
One fan posted a GIF from Berserk with the caption, 'my favorite fighter of ALL TIME GOAT.'
Another one used a GIF from Dragon Ball to express their feelings about the situation. The GIF is of Vegeta being upset when he finds he is unable to go Super Saiyan, and he's standing dejected in the rain.
Another said, 'won't be the same without him.'
Another posted a GIF with a series of famous people crying, with Los Angeles Lakers icon LeBron James featured prominently.
Poirier walks away from MMA competition with a 30-10 mark with one no contest. While Poirier never won an undisputed title in the UFC, he was the interim champion. His résumé is about as Hall-of-Fame worthy as anyone who never held undisputed gold.
If you question Poirier's fitness for the Hall, I've got two words for you: 'Donald Cerrone.'
WWE fans thought that was going somewhere else. How can a fighter have these wins and not be in the UFC Hall of Fame?Dustin Poirier – 5 Biggest Wins

Poirier defeated Holloway by unanimous decision in a five-round war to win the Interim Lightweight Championship. It was a rematch nearly seven years in the making and one of the best fights of 2019, earning Fight of the Night honors.

In their trilogy bout, Poirier earned a TKO win when McGregor suffered a broken leg at the end of Round 1. In one of the wildest fights in UFC history, Poirier stopped Gaethje via TKO in Round 4 after a back-and-forth brawl filled with leg kicks, power punches, and nonstop pressure from both men. It was a turning point that launched Poirier's run to the interim belt.
Poirier established himself as a fighter's fighter and that's what fans loved most about him. I can't wait for his HOF induction. Shine bright Diamond.

Dan Hooker not keen on Paddy Pimblett next: 'I think someone's sh*t, then I fight sh*t'
Dan Hooker is seeking the toughest fight possible for his UFC return. Hooker (24-12 MMA, 14-8 UFC) called out Arman Tsarukyan (22-3 MMA, 9-2 UFC) and Charles Oliveira for the November pay-per-view card in a series of tweets. He broke down the landscape at lightweight, and why he's zoning in on Tsarukyan, who withdrew from his title fight against Islam Makhachev at UFC 311 in January. "I think they're going to do (Max) Holloway-Oliveira (and) they're going to do (Justin) Gaethje for the title," Hooker told Submission Radio. "That leaves Arman in the lurch. He's stuck fighting me, brother. He's got to fight me to get back in the mix and to get a title shot. And that's always the fight I want, and not because he's a prick and I hate him, but because I genuinely think that he's the harder fight." Hooker was asked about Paddy Pimblett (22-4 MMA, 7-0 UFC), but "The Hangman" took a dig at him when explaining why he'd rather fight Tsarukyan. "I don't think the guy's that good," Hooker said of Pimblett. "And it brings out the best of me when I fight an actual good fighter. Like, when they give me someone that I think I can beat, or I think someone's sh*t, then I fight sh*t. Like, my mind subconsciously relaxes because I think they're sh*t, and then I do sh*t, then they beat me. "But when I fight a guy that I think could kick my ass, then my subconscious goes, 'Oh,sh*t, we might get our ass kicked.' Then I wake up so, I actually end up fighting really well. So, I'd rather just fight the best guy so I actually perform well."

Conor McGregor comeback update: Ex-fighter claims drug test, then cackles in underwear
Of all the tales told about Conor McGregor comebacks, none have come true yet. So take this with a grain of salt, perhaps. The former UFC fighter said Tuesday he's been drug tested, a necessary step to get back into the anti-doping pool before another fight. McGregor posted a video on social media in his underwear, which is nothing impressive or new. But in this one, he showed off a small bandage near his shoulder he claimed is from his first drug test en route to another fight in the UFC. McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) has not fought since he broke his leg in a second straight knockout loss to Dustin Poirier more than four years ago. He was supposed to return against Michael Chandler at UFC 303 in June 2024, but pulled out after he broke his baby toe. Most McGregor headlines have been about his brushes with the law; his liability conviction for a sexual assault outside his marriage; other sexual assault allegations; and just generally being an online presence enough for his clicks to stay up, but never being truly close to a return fight – despite anything he or UFC CEO Dana White ever said to the contrary. Will the umpteenth time be the charm for a McGregor return? Feel free to be the judge from his latest social media post, which included some interesting breathing exercises and a closing cackle.
