Ethan Peters (18), a Grade 11 learner from Bellavista, is making great strides in the Johannesburg boxing fraternity.
Peters only began boxing as a hobby and quickly gained enough experience to join a gym and begin training with coach Anton Gilmore.
''I started to box in school but I fell in love with the sport and began to take it more seriously, which is when I began training with Anton,' said Peters.
Although he's only been fighting for three years, he's already won a gold medal at the Johannesburg Boxing Championships and he boasts a record of eight wins and zero losses.
Earlier this year, Peters fought in the novice championship, where he won gold in the super heavyweight category.
''You fight in the novice championship to gain experience and move on to the Joburg Championships,'' he explained.

He then fought in the Joburg Championships which took place in Brixton at Hugenote Boxing Gym. Peters took gold in the super heavyweight category at both championships, which means he qualified for the Gauteng Championships that will take place in Ekurhuleni in July.
Peters needs a sponsorship for boxing equipment, training equipment or any sponsorship that will allow him to pursue his dream.
'I will appreciate any help I can get, no contribution is too small. I train at home so equipment is needed. I also need funds for travelling and to train at a gym,' he said.

Tyrell Stewart does the heavy lifting and needs some light help

Olympic weightlifter Tyrell Stewart has been selected to represent South Africa in the U17 men's 65kg category at the Commonwealth Youth and Junior Championships to be held in India from August 24-30. It was a mixture of heavy lifting, hours spent in the gym, and the mindset to always do better that helped guide the way for him to this ultimate show of glory. Read more: Is it safe for children to lift weights? His coach Steve Kafang, who couldn't be any prouder of him, said weightlifting is a sport that requires high skill to be able to perform well. 'This year was a big year for us,' he said. It all began with Tyrell's first competition in February, where, while performing the snatch as well as the clean and jerk, he lifted a collective 144kg. The second competition of the year, held in June, was the Gauteng Championships. There, while still performing the snatch and clean and jerk, with a body weight of 62.4kg, Tyrell lifted a sum of 158kg. 'This was built up to the performance at the SA Championships,' explained Kafang. Held in the Western Cape in July, the SA Championships also saw nothing but the best from this Northcliff High School learner. There, lifting in his second attempt at the snatch, he achieved his Personal Best. All in all, Tyrell ended the competition having lifted a total of 162kg, a performance that ultimately led to him being made Champion of Champions. The title makes him the best athlete in the country in the U17 category. To show the world his prowess, he is asking for the community's help to assist in sending him to India to compete in the Commonwealth Youth and Junior Championships at the end of this month. 'This is a dream come true and my first international competition and a huge step in my journey as an athlete,' said Tyrell. Legendary in fists journey – the life of White Buffalo

Francois Botha (56), well-known as 'The White Buffalo', a South African fighter from the streets of the City of Coal, is back, not in the ring, but deeply involved in the sport he loves so much. He started doing wonders in the ring in 1990. He secured two titles that led to his international recognition. He stepped out of South Africa to enter the bigger arenas around the world. He had bigger dreams that led him to leave for the United States, knowing there were fewer rules on fights and much more prize money to be won. His biggest moment came in 1995, when he faced Axel Schulz for the IBF Heavyweight World Title. The White Buffalo fought with everything he had. When the final bell rang, he was the new world champion. It was a dream come true, a huge moment for him and South African boxing. But this great victory also brought a tough challenge. Soon after, he lost the title because of a failed drug test, which was a very difficult time in his career. But if there's one thing you know about The White Buffalo, it's that he never gives up. Even after losing his title, he proved his courage by stepping into the ring with some of the biggest names in boxing history. His total professional record shows just how much he fought – 63 fights, winning 48 of them, with 29 of those wins coming by knockout. He battled other fighters and former champions like Michael Moorer in 2000, including the living legend Evander Holyfield in 2002. He also battled Lennox Lewis in 2000 for the unified heavyweight title. But perhaps his highly remarkable fight was in 1999, when he faced off against Mike Tyson. In his 40s, The White Buffalo jumped into the world of kickboxing, and he had a kickboxing match against the 27-year-old All Black rugby star, Sonny Bill Williams, at 44. 'It was not easy, but the rewards the world can see! God is great! This all started as a young boy from eMalahleni at the Blesbok Park boxing gym,' The White Buffalo said. 'Buffalo is semi-retired as I'm in negotiations for one more, to become the oldest Heavyweight Champion in history,' Botha added. The legendary boxer is now back in South Africa. The White Buffalo's journey in the boxing ring, and later in other combat sports, is a wild ride full of powerful punches, big wins, unforgettable moments, and a spirit that just never gives up.
