At least seven dead after Russian bridge collapses onto train
At least seven people have died after a highway bridge collapsed in a region close to the Ukraine border, according to Russian emergency services. The bridge in Bryansk brought down several heavy trucks onto a moving passenger train, with 30 people, including two children, also reportedly injured. The Russian Emergencies Ministry said fire and rescue units were attempting to find people who had been travelling on the train. In a statement posted to Telegram, Moscow Railway alleged the bridge had collapsed "as a result of illegal interference in transport operations". "Unfortunately, there are seven fatalities," local governor Alexander Bogomaz said on Telegram, adding two people - including a child - are "seriously injured". All casualties have been taken to medical facilities in the Bryansk region, he added. Moscow's interregional transport prosecutor's office said an investigation had been launched. Additional emergency workers, as well as rescue equipment and light towers for carrying out work at night have been sent to the area, according to Russian news agency Tass. Pictures online showed mangled carriages and passengers helping each other climb out of the wreckage in the dark. The incident took place about 100km (62 miles) from the Ukraine border.

Bridge collapse causes train to derail in Russia
A passenger train has derailed in western Russia after a bridge collapsed because of what local officials described as "illegal interference". Officials said at least three people were killed and 28 were injured late on Saturday. The bridge in Russia's Bryansk region, which borders Ukraine, was damaged "as a result of illegal interference in transport operations," Moscow Railways said in a statement, without elaborating. Bryansk regional Governor Alexander Bogomaz said emergency services and government officials were working at the scene. "Everything is being done to provide all necessary assistance to the victims." Russia's Baza and SHOT Telegram channels, which often publish information from sources in the security services and law enforcement, reported that the passenger train crashed into the collapsed bridge. Baza reported, without providing evidence, that according to preliminary information, the bridge was blown up. Reuters could not independently verify the Baza and SHOT reports. There was no immediate comment from Ukraine. Since the start of the war that Russia launched with its full-scale invasion on Ukraine more than three years ago, there have been continued cross-border shelling, drone strikes, and covert raids from Ukraine into the Bryansk, Kursk and Belgorod regions that border Ukraine. with Reuters
