Pahalgam fallout: Pakistan doubtful for Asia Cup hockey in Rajgir
NEW DELHI: The national federation is awaiting a government advisory but Pakistan's participation in this year's Hero Asia Cup hockey tournament in India is in serious doubt because of the prevalent tension between the two countries after the Pahalgam terror attack.
The Asia Cup will be staged in Rajgir, Bihar from August 27 to September 7.
Hosts India, Pakistan, Japan, Korea, China, Malaysia, Oman and Chinese Taipei are scheduled to participate in the 12th edition of the continental showpiece, a qualifying tournament for next year's World Cup to be held in Netherlands and Belgium.
"It is too early to say anything but we will follow the government's directive on this issue, which has been the case in the past," HI secretary general Bholanath Singh told PTI.
"We can't predict anything right now especially after the recent barbaric Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor that India conducted following that," he said.
"There is still close to three months for the tournament but we will abide by what our government suggests us. There are no two ways about it," he added.
In the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives and injured many, the government ordered all Pakistani nationals to leave the country and revoked their visas.
A fortnight after the gruesome incident, India responded launched 'Operation Sindoor' and carried out missile strikes on terrorist hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
This led to further escalation as Pakistan launched drone and missile attacks, which were neutralised by India's robust air defence system.
India responded by hitting military installations and air defence systems located in prominent Pakistani cities like Lahore and Rawalpindi among others.
The two countries agreed to a ceasefire on May 10 after Pakistan's Director General of Military Operations reached out to his Indian counterpart.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his address to the nation, made it clear that any engagement with Pakistan will hinge on clear evidence of action against terrorism by that country.
"If the government advisory does not give an all clear than Pakistan won't travel to India. It all depends on the government position at that time," a federation source told PTI.

Khandelwal credited this significant achievement to the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Modi, who assumed office in 2014. He said the sharp reduction in poverty is the result of direct benefit transfers, digital empowerment, rural development and targeted welfare schemes that have reached the grassroots. "Through targeted welfare schemes, digital empowerment, rural development, and direct benefit transfers, the Narendra Modi government has laid a strong foundation for poverty eradication and social equity," he added. Highlighting flagship initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana, Ujjwala Yojana, Jan Dhan Yojana, Ayushman Bharat, PM Awas Yojana, and PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, he noted that these programmes have brought real change to the lives of the poor citizens. He said that this milestone is not just a statistical victory, but a reflection of growing hope, dignity, and economic opportunity across the country. He added that it further strengthens India's journey toward becoming a 'Viksit Bharat' by 2047. According to BJP MP Khandelwal, the World Bank's findings reaffirm that under PM Modi's leadership, India is not only the fastest-growing major economy but also one that is ensuring no one is left behind in the nation's development. "This milestone reinforces the belief that under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, India is not only the fastest-growing major economy but also a nation where the poorest are being empowered, included, and uplifted," he said.

Did Pakistan hit Adampur, Bhuj air bases during Operation Sindoor? Satellite images show otherwise
In the wake of Operation Sindoor, Pakistan has been projecting a narrative of wins against India, with new reports adding that Islamabad hit the Adampur air base in Punjab and damaged a Sukhoi-30 MKI parked there. Top Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) imagery analyst Damien Symon has debunked the claim, pointing out that Pakistan used a pre-conflict photograph to push its narrative. Symon posted the image used by Pakistan to claim a hit on Adampur air base in a post on the social media platform X. The image used to support the claim purportedly shows a jet near what Pakistan claims to be a burn mark. But according to Symon, it was taken in March of this year, much before India's Operation Sindoor. 'New report alleges a direct hit at India's Adampur Air Base by Pakistan damaged a Su-30, however a review reveals this image taken in March 2025, pre-conflict actually shows a MiG-29 undergoing maintenance, the dark soot near the engine test pad is routine, not battle damage,' the post read. Pakistan not only falsely claimed to hit the Adampur air base, but it also made a similar claim for the Bhuj air base in Gujarat. There, Islamabad claims to have destroyed an S-400 radar. Damien Symon debunked that claim, too, pointing out that what Islamabad claims to be marks of destruction are actually likely to be just oil stains in the air base's service yard. This image also predates Operation Sindoor and the India-Pakistan conflict. 'An image is being circulated now as a Pakistan destroyed S-400 radar in India, a review however indicates it's likely just oil stains at Bhuj military base's vehicle service yard, also the image predates the recent Indo-Pak conflict as it was taken in February 2025,' Symon's post read. India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terror infrastructure at nine locations in PoK and Pakistan's Punjab province. The operation was in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, mostly tourists, in Jammu and Kashmir's resort town. The operation prompted a confrontation with Pakistan for the next four days, with India hitting multiple military targets while defending its own. The conflict subsided after a ceasefire understanding was reached between the neighbours on May 10.

The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief made the remark at a rally in Ara in Bhojpur district where he sounded his party's poll bugle. "I will contest the assembly polls in Bihar. I will contest not just in Bihar but for Bihar and its people. I am the son of Ram Vilas Paswan. I will realise the dreams of my father and work for 'Bihar first, Bihari first' to change Bihar," news agency PTI quoted Paswan as saying. He was recalling a slogan he had coined ahead of the previous 2020 assembly polls On the question of which assembly seat he would contest, the Hajipur MP replied this would be decided by the people of the state. Whenever I take a political decision, I take it for the sake of the state and its people," the actor-turned-politician said.
