Nicole Kidman Champions Women Filmmakers, Slams Ageism At Cannes 2025
Last Updated:
Nicole Kidman received the Women in Motion Award at Cannes 2025 for advocating female directors and addressing ageism.
Nicole Kidman was celebrated at the Cannes Film Festival 2025 as the latest recipient of the Women in Motion Award, presented by Kering. While the accolade itself is prestigious, what truly resonated was Kidman's candid reflection on how the industry treats both emerging and seasoned female talent.
Known for supporting women behind the lens, Kidman has turned her words into action. Back in 2017, she made a personal commitment to work with a female director at least once every 18 month, a promise she's exceeded, having collaborated with 27 women directors in just eight years.
'I was going to make it possible. I was at a point where we had a discussion where there was such a disparity in terms of the choice. You'd go, 'Could a woman direct this?' And there wasn't a number of names where you could even consider people. They'd say it was someone's first time and you didn't want to risk it," she shared in an interview with Variety.
Kidman, who has consistently advocated for more representation in the film world, didn't hold back when addressing ageism either. She touched upon the struggles that often come with growing older in a youth-driven industry.
'You get to a certain age and maybe you had made a great film in your 20s that got lauded and then suddenly you're in your 40s and you haven't followed it up or made choices that didn't succeed. But you're like, 'I'm not over! Please still keep believing in me and investing in me.' That is important too, resisting ageism. There's the emerging talents and then the ones that are still going who have a wealth of knowledge and experience and have somehow been cast out or are not the cool person. It's about going, 'No, you actually can have a second or third chapter,'" she expressed passionately.
Kidman was most recently seen in Holland, directed by Mimi Cave, and is set to return in Nine Perfect Strangers Season 2.

Who is Angelina Censori? Bianca Censori's lookalike sister joins Kanye West's inner circle
Angelina Censori may be only 21, but she's already catching headlines. Not just for bearing a striking resemblance to her older sister Bianca Censori, but also for slipping seamlessly into the glitzy, globe-trotting world of Kanye West (Ye). The younger Censori recently joined her sister and the rapper on their whirlwind vacation, which saw them hop from Spain to Japan. If you have been scrolling through Instagram, you might have stumbled across a few luxe snapshots from the trio's Tokyo stop. Angelina Censori, who's known to be close to Bianca Censori, posted glimpses from their Japanese vacation. From a high-end meal at the celebrity-favourite WAGYUMAFIA to vintage shopping sprees and skyline views, it looks like she is already syncing with Ye's stylish crew. Well, this wasn't a one-off holiday tagalong. Last month, Angelina was also spotted soaking up the sun in Spain alongside the couple, reported Variety. While the views from Mallorca were enviable, the album came with its fair share of gossip. Fans began speculating about a potential romance between Angelina and Ye's business associate, Sneako, after she posted photos that featured the two of them. But she wasn't having any of it. Angelina promptly shut down the whispers, clarifying with a direct statement, 'We are not dating.' Meanwhile, Bianca Censori stirred the Internet in her own way. At a local market in Mallorca, she reportedly turned heads in a see-through mesh top and a barely-there skirt. Her freshly donned long, dark wig with wispy bangs only added to the dramatic flair. As if the family vacations and fashion choices weren't enough to keep fans buzzing, Kanye West had another headline moment. The rapper, who legally changed his name to Ye back in 2021, has now reportedly taken a step further. According to newly surfaced business documents, he has adopted a new moniker: Ye Ye. The change wasn't just a quirky nickname. As per Page Six, the official paperwork filed by Kanye West's CFO, Hussain Lalani, lists the new name across his various ventures - including Yeezy Apparel, Yeezy Record Label LLC, and Getting Out Our Dreams Inc. Angelina Censori is the 20-year-old younger sister of Bianca Censori, Kanye West's wife. No. Although fans speculated romance after shared photos from Mallorca, Angelina Censori confirmed, 'We are not dating.' After changing his name to Ye in 2021, Kanye has now adopted the new moniker 'Ye Ye,' as per recent business filings.

Snow White OTT release: When and where to watch Rachel Zegler's magical tale online
Get ready to experience the magic of Disney's live-action Snow White from the comfort of your home. According to Variety, the remake will begin streaming on Disney+ from 11 June. Starring West Side Story breakout Rachel Zegler in the titular role, Snow White is the latest classic to receive a 21st-century makeover. Inspired by the 1937 animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the story follows the young princess as she escapes her wicked stepmother—played by Gal Gadot—and finds refuge with a group of seven dwarfs in an enchanted forest. On Amazon, the film is priced at $29.99 to buy and $24.99 to rent. A wider home release, including 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD editions, is scheduled for 24 June. The home entertainment edition will feature special content such as a sing-along version, bloopers, deleted scenes, and behind-the-scenes featurettes. Disney is also set to release a 2-Movie Collection pairing the new film with the original Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. This bundle will be available in various formats and resolutions. Rachel Zegler headlines the cast, joined by Gal Gadot, who portrays a darker, more layered version of the Evil Queen. The seven dwarfs are brought to life by a diverse voice cast, including Andrew Barth Feldman, Tituss Burgess, Martin Klebba, and Jeremy Swift. While retaining beloved songs from the original, the new film also introduces original compositions that support its updated storyline. The screenplay, written by Erin Cressida Wilson, blends elements from the Brothers Grimm tale and Disney's legacy, striking a balance between fantasy and emotional depth. At present, Disney has not confirmed a streaming release date for Snow White on Disney+, as reported by Decider. Typically, Disney films appear on the platform between four to six months after their theatrical release. A recent example is Mufasa: The Lion King, which became available on Disney+ about three months after its digital debut. If Snow White follows a similar pattern, it could land on Disney+ by late June 2025. However, until an official announcement is made, fans will need to purchase or rent the digital version—or revisit the original 1937 film, which remains available on Disney+.
