More than 325 suspects nabbed in Operation Shanela
A multidisciplinary team involving various stakeholders held the operation on the Sinoville and Kameeldrift policing precincts.
The operation, led by the District Commissioner of Tshwane, Major-General Samuel Thine, apprehended a total of 328 suspects for various criminal offences.
Tshwane District detectives arrested 280 suspects, including 85 suspects linked to gender-based violence-related cases, four for murder, two for attempted murder, four for armed robbery, and three for rape.
A roadblock in Kameeldrift led to the detention of 47 undocumented foreign nationals.
During the operation, police patrolled at 18 identified crime hotspots where they arrested one suspect.
'One suspect was arrested for possession and dealing in dagga after being found with one shopping bag full of dagga and [an] additional 14 ziplock bags of dagga and an undisclosed amount of cash,' said the police statement.
Additionally, six second-hand goods dealers were inspected and fined a total of R19 000 for contraventions of the Second-Hand Goods Act.
A 35-year-old man was arrested for illegal mining, illegal processing of presumed precious minerals and contravention of immigration laws.
Roseman Moyo (35) appeared before the Lenyenye Regional Court on Wednesday, 21 May 2025.
Moyo will remain in custody until 18 June 2025 for bail application and further police investigations.
He was found with a shovel, pickaxe, hammer, phenduka, head lamp, and a bag containing presumed precious minerals.
He was also found mining without a permit.
Police investigations are currently taking place.
In other related news, a 33-year-old suspect was arrested for allegedly dealing in illicit gold around Sandringham.
Police spotted the suspect's vehicle on Swindler Road and Lee Street, where they searched it.
'During the search of the vehicle, police discovered 5 grams of illicit gold and R8100 cash,' said the police statement.
The suspect also led the police to another property at Sandler Street, where they seized 600 grams of illicit gold valued at R900 000 and R300 000 cash.
The suspect will appear at the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Monday, 26 May 2025.

SAPS gives update on Cat Matlala's missing business partner
The South African Police Service (SAPS) has disputed claims that missing Pretoria business man, Jerry Boshoga has been found. He has business links to controversial entrepreneur, Vusimuzi 'Cat' Matlala. According to SAPS, Boshoga who is a farmer and tenderpreneur, was kidnapped on 18 November 2024. He had been attending a business meeting in Centurion. Soon after, the kidnappers began sending videos of Boshoga being tortured and they demanded a ransom of R10 million from his family. 'In the last twenty-four hours unverified social media accounts have shared misleading and false information claiming that Mr Boshoga has been found deceased,' said SAPS. 'The investigation into his kidnapping is still at a very sensitive stage and the businessman has not been found alive nor deceased,' SAPS emphasised. SAPS has therefore called on all social media users to stop sharing the unverified information. They further urged social media users to spare a thought for the family of the victim before sharing such posts. Police also warned that the spreading of the misleading information had caused unnecessary trauma and panic. They said the posts had also caused anxiety for Boshoga's close family members, including his mother, wife and children. Earlier this month, Boshoga's family claimed disgraced businessman, Vusimuzi 'Cat' Matlala, was responsible for the kidnapping. SAPS has not verified nor denied these claims. What they have confirmed however, is that they are still searching for Boshoga and called for responsible social media reporting around the case. 'The SAPS is in close contact with the family and if there are any developments in the case, the family will be the first to be notified by the investigating team,' they concluded. Donald Trump considering a pardon for Diddy
It appears that President Donald Trump may be considering giving rapper Sean 'Diddy' Combs a 'get out of jail free card.' These reports follow two months after the rapper was found guilty of two counts of prostitution. Despite the seemingly good news for the rapper, the pardoning may not be set in stone just yet. On 17 May 2024, CNN released footage showing Diddy physically assaulting singer Cassie in a hotel hallway in Los Angeles. Just two days later, Diddy posted an apology video, but the damage had already been done. Public perception had shifted and the seriousness of the incident was widely acknowledged. On 16 September 2024, Diddy was arrested at his hotel in Manhattan following a grand jury indictment. The next day, he faced court charges for sex-trafficking, racketeering, and transportation of prostitution. By November of the same year, over 100 additional assault allegations had surfaced against him. The trial commenced on 12 May 2025, with Diddy pleading not guilty to the charges. By 2 July 2025, the verdict was in: he was acquitted of the more severe charges of racketeering and sex-trafficking. But, he was found guilty on two counts related to transportation for prostitution. The trail continues as everyone awaits the sentencing details. May 2025 was the first time President Trump hinted at the possibility of pardoning Diddy during the rapper's sex-trafficking trial. While speaking at the Oval Office, President Trump said the following: I would certainly look at the facts. If I think somebody was mistreated, whether they like me or don't like me, it wouldn't have any impact on me. The final part of the statement appeared important to add seeing as the president was unsure of whether his relationship with the rapper was still on good terms following his first election. Recent reports, however, suggest that President Trump may be staying true to his word as he considers pardoning Diddy. An administration source told Deadline that the president is 'seriously considering' pardoning the rapper. It's still unclear which way President Trump is leaning, but we can expect to find out at the end of Diddy's trial later this year.
