Unlimited Merdeka travel pass for RM68
The pass, also called the Merdeka Unlimited Travel Pass, is available to SMART Tunnel users at a one-off payment of RM68 and valid from Aug 16 to Sept 16.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said: "The initiative allows daily commuters to save up to RM64 a month, compared with the average monthly toll of RM132."
He added that the offer carries special significance in celebrating the nation's 68th National Day and 15th Malaysia Day.
The one-month scheme, he said, demonstrated how public facilities could, and should, be provided in ways that prioritised inclusivity and the people's well-being.
Nanta, who officiated at the launch at the SMART Management and Tunnel Operations Complex yesterday, was joined by Malaysian Highway Authority director-general Datuk Sazali Harun and Amanat Lebuhraya Rakyat group chief executive officer Muhammad Nizam Alias.
On average, commuters using the SMART Tunnel make around 44 trips a month, with a one-way toll of RM3.
The Merdeka Unlimited Travel Pass not only offers savings but also provides quick access to the city centre via a route used by an average of 19,000 vehicles daily.
It is also the world's only dual-function tunnel combining traffic and floodwater management.
"This initiative shows how infrastructure players can take proactive steps to help people manage the rising cost of living, particularly in urban areas.
"It also strengthens public trust in the highway industry and reflects Malaysia Madani's emphasis on balancing economic growth with social justice, underpinned by values of respect and compassion," Nanta said.
He added that the SMART Tunnel would remain one of Malaysia's most significant engineering achievements, playing a vital role in flood mitigation and urban mobility.
It has received international recognition, including the United Nations Habitat Scroll of Honour Award, the British Construction Industry Award, and the Asean Outstanding Engineering Achievement Award — and was listed by CNN among the "Most Impressive Tunnels in the World".
Meanwhile, Nanta said there would be no free toll for National Day as such exemptions were limited to one-day festivals.

Proud Malaysians: Loke (centre) posing for a photo after handing over the Jalur Gemilang to 100 representatives of haulier drivers at the Jalur Gemilang raising programme in Port Klang. — Bernama PORT KLANG: The Jalur Gemilang serves as a symbol of unity for all Malaysians, a fact that must not be overlooked despite recent controversies, says Transport Minister Anthony Loke. Speaking during the 'Kibarkan Jalur Gemilang Komuniti Pelabuhan Klang' programme, Loke reminded Malaysians that the national flag transcends race, religion and politics. 'Although there have been several recent incidents involving the Jalur Gemilang, we must not forget that it is our common flag. 'National Day should unite Malaysians and remind us that love for the country must be part of our character and daily lives,' he said at the event held at the Port Klang Authority Social and Recreational Club yesterday. His remarks followed two incidents in which the national flag was displayed upside down – initially at a primary school in Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan, and subsequently at a shop in Kepala Batas, Penang. On another matter, Loke stressed the importance of the logistics sector as the backbone of Malaysia's economy. 'Without logistics, trade cannot take place, and the economy would be crippled,' he said. Loke said it is the mission of the industry to ensure that Port Klang, already ranked among the world's 10 busiest ports, continues to grow and drive national prosperity. He added that development plans for Carey Island, designated as the country's third port, are underway and are expected to bring additional benefits to the Port Klang community. At the event, Loke also presented the Jalur Gemilang to representatives of logistics and transportation companies in conjunction with the upcoming National Day celebrations.

Logistics sector is nation's backbone, says Loke
PORT KLANG: It is crucial for everyone to join forces to uphold the nation's logistics sector, which is the backbone of the economy, says Transport Minister Anthony Loke. "Without the logistics sector, trade cannot take place and the economy will be crippled as imports and exports can't be carried out," he said in his short speech at the Kibarkan Jalur Gemilang Komuniti Pelabuhan Klang event in conjunction with National Day on Aug 31 held at the Port Klang Authority Social and Recreational club. Loke said it is the mission of the logistics industry community to ensure Port Klang, currently one of the top ten busiest ports globally, continues to grow and prosper the nation's economy. He said the Port Klang community will continue to enjoy the economic benefits from the various developmental projects initiated there. "Currently, we are planning to ensure the development of Carey Island as the third port can be implemented soon," he said. On a separate matter, Loke said the recent incidents where the Jalur Gemilang was flown upside down must not make people lose focus of the fact that the Jalur Gemilang belongs to the people. Loke said that the flag is also the unifying symbol for all Malaysians regardless of race, religion or political affiliation. "Although there have been several recent incidents involving the Jalur Gemilang, we must not lose sight of the fact that the Jalur Gemilang is our common flag. "National Day should unite Malaysians and remind us that love for the country must be part of our character and daily lives," said Loke. Recently, two incidents of the Jalur Gemilang being displayed upside down courted controversy with Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh initiating a protest over the matter. The Malaysian flag was first accidentally flown upside down at a primary school in Port Dickson and then at a shop in Kepala Batas, Penang.
