Scots singing sensation Rianne Downey 'buzzing' for homecoming TRNSMT gig after 'unbelievable' journey
The folk and country singer will play the King Tut's stage on Sunday, July 13.
Scots songstress Rianne Downey credits TRNSMT for sending her on an 'unbelievable' journey which saw her rock the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury.
Describing the bucket list moment as the 'pinnacle' of her music career so far, the 25-year-old Bellshill musician told Lanarkshire Live her life has been a whirlwind ever since she shared the main stage at TRNSMT 2023 with Beautiful South icon Paul Heaton.
Rianne was uploading cover songs online through the Covid lockdown when her version of their hit song 'Rotterdam' was 'liked' by Paul who gave her some positive feedback.
Then three years later, out of the blue, she got a phone call from her manager to say Paul wanted her to sing with him for the summer.
'I had to run home and record some voice notes of the tunes then I got a phone call the next day to say 'we're going to try one gig for the summer'', said Rianne.
'That one gig turned into the full summer, singing on his album and playing the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury - and here we are now.
'Playing Glasto was the pinnacle moment of my career, I'll never forget that. I absolutely loved playing the Hydro with him too. Stepping out to 15,000 Glaswegians was definitely a buzz.'
The self-professed 'country folk fairy', has a strong Celtic connection which never fails to resonate with a Glasgow crowd.
Currently touring with The Beautiful South star after recording on his latest album 'The Mighty Several' together, Rianne is also lending support to Texas on their UK summer tour and returning to Glastonbury this week for a solo acoustic set.
She added: 'It's been a whirlwind ever since that TRNSMT moment. Time has absolutely flown by and so many amazing things have happened.
'That gig was a proper monumental moment in my life. Since then I've sang and recorded on Paul's album, which got to number 2 in the charts, and through that we played the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury last year which was an absolute dream come true.
'That's a proper bucket list for so many musicians. It's been unbelieveable and things have just been flying since then.
'We got to play my hometown of Glasgow to a sold out Hydro crowd - which was again a bucket list moment.
'It's been so lovely because after that loads of people bought into me and wanted to hear my voice singing my own songs as well as Paul's.'
The singer-songwriter, who now lives in Liverpool, has kickstarted her debut album campaign and will be treating the TRNSMT crowd to songs from the soon to be released coming-of-age record 'The Consequence of Love' when she plays the King Tut's stage on Sunday, July 13.
Rianne revealed she will also have a couple of Paul Heaton songs up her sleeve along with a rousing Scottish anthem.
This will be Rianne's first solo performance since her debut slot as an emerging artist at TRNSMT in 2022.
This year's headliners include 50 Cent, Biffy Clyro, Underworld and Snow Patrol.
'This year I'm playing TRNSMT on my own which is lovely', she continued.
'It'll be great to play the King Tut's stage on the Sunday afternoon, it just feels like the perfect slot.
'King Tut's was the first gig I ever put on and it sold out in two days. I remember just being so buzzing, so grateful. And now I'm getting to play the King Tut's stage at TRNSMT so it just feels like an amazing journey, a big jump up.
'Glasgow has always been so supportive of me. It's been a while since I last played solo so TRNSMT is definitely a brilliant homecoming.
She added: 'I feel like it would only be right to play a couple of Paul songs. And I think I'll sing Caledonia - everybody will be waiting on that one from me. We're a very patriotic city so it's lovely that people want to hear Caledonia, but also want to hear my tunes as well.
'My band's amazing, it feels like we're all in great shape and I'm just so excited to show everybody my music that I've been working on - songs old and new.
'The name of the album is 'The Consequence of Love'. Every song on the album is a love song, or is born out of love. From relationships and family to heartache - it explores all the pathways that love takes you on. It's a country, folk, coming-of-age album with lots of catchy, sunny tunes in there.
'I guess it's about my journey to where I am now and the fragility of life and love.'
Rianne says she hopes to catch American singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams while she's at the festival but needs to get back on the road soon after for the rest of their summer tour.
She said: 'It's a short and sweet visit as I need to get back for rehearsals with Paul - it's pretty nonstop at the moment.
'I'm on my way to Glastonbury just now. It'll definitely be more chilled this year, I'm just playing an acoustic set so it feels like my time to celebrate last year as it was just so surreal.
'I just love performing and always want to give the best performance that I can to the people in the crowd, because that's what they're there for and they're the reason that I'm getting to play.'
Following her album release, Rianne is heading on a UK-wide album tour which finishes on home soil at the Old Fruitmarket in Glasgow on December 6.
'The Consequence of Love' is now available to pre-order from riannedowney.com and will be released on all major download sites on October 17.
Tickets for the album tour are on sale now.

The singer started playing guitar aged nine and graduated to gigs three years later - hiding in pub bathrooms until his time to perform because he was too young to be there. He was discovered at 18 when his manager heard a recording he'd made in his bedroom that was uploaded to SoundCloud. Soon after he graduated with an HND in Music from New College Lanarkshire, Motherwell. RISE TO FAME 6 He was catapulted to superstardom. His family urged him top consider quitting music when his twitches were so bad they thought he was having a seizure. However, he found himself embroiled in a hilarious feud with Oasis legend Noel Gallagher, 58, in 2019. Gallagher said "Who's this Capaldi fella?" and branded him an idiot on radio - only for Lewis to call the rocker old and past his prime. The Wonderwall artist responded by posting a video of his son weeping to Lewis' hit track Someone You Loved, advising him to "find some joy" in his music. Lewis then wore a T-shirt with Gallagher's face inside a love heart at Glastonbury - and later posted with his rival brother Liam, 52. FUTURE It remains to be seen how Lewis will cope when he returns to the stage at Glastonbury. But if all goes well, fans will be clamouring for a third album and a major tour. He was previously overheard saying he wanted to bring out an album this year. Music megastar Yungblud has also revealed that he's heard some of the Scot's new music - and that it sounds great.

Chris Tarrant reveals heartbreaking reason he left TV career after 52 years
Chris Tarrant has revealed the heartbreaking reason he left the TV world after starring on some of the country's biggest shows for 52 years. The legendary host, 78, is best known for presenting iconic kids show Tiswas between 1974 and 1981 and quiz series Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? for 16 years. Tarrant began moving away from regular TV work in the 2010s, quitting Millionaire in 2014 – but he did still present the docuseries Extreme Railway Journeys between 2012 and 2020. Since the Covid-19 pandemic, however, his face has been seen less and less, with his last appearance coming in 2021 documentary Britain Biggest 1970s Hits. In 2025, Tarrant has now given a detailed but heartbreaking explanation for why he's now retired from the glitz and glamour of primetime programmes. Speaking to MailOnline, he reflected on decision to leave it all behind: '52 years is a long time on air. I loved what I did. I had a really good time. 'But I went to the funerals of five really good mates, who were about the same age as me, and I thought, 'I don't know how long I've got left in life, but I don't want to spend it locked away in a studio.'' One of those friends was the late Sir Terry Wogan, the legendary Irish TV and radio broadcaster who died in 2016 – he was 77, a year younger than Tarrant is now. Continuing his story, Tarrant said he briefly considered retiring in 2014 after suffering a mini-stroke, which left him needing long-term speech therapy to get back to his best. 'I had a lucky escape. I can chat to you now, [my body] is working. But I did have to have speech therapy. It took a while to get everything back. It was scary.' In 2020, he told The Mirror he was stepping down because he no longer needed the money and wanted to spend more time with his family in retirement. 'I've stopped working. Lockdown started to get everything in a bit perspective and I thought, 'I've done this thing for 50 years. I don't need the money.' More Trending 'Without sounding silly, why am I still doing this? I've done lots of things that I've been putting off instead that have been great.' He continued: 'I went on safari with my two eldest grandkids. [Wife] Jane and I have just come back from Borneo. I've just come back from photographing bears in Alaska. Why the hell would I go for work for?' Despite publicly announcing his retirement just before Christmas last year, Tarrant revealed that the offers were still coming in from TV producers. View More » Chris confessed that he 'turned down' hosting The Masked Singer and had no further desire to front another travel show as he didn't want to be told 'where to go, what to do and, you know, schedules'. Boxing fans react to Jake Paul footage - 'You can't be serious'
The 'Problem Child' makes his highly-anticipated return to action this weekend, but fans have been left unimpressed after training footage of the American went viral Boxing fans have brutally slammed Jake Paul's pad work ahead of his return to the boxing ring this weekend. The YouTuber-turned-boxer will take on former middleweight world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in Anaheim on Saturday night. Paul has not fought since defeating Mike Tyson last November. Despite being expected to knock the boxing veteran out, the 'Problem Child' cruised to a victory on points. Chavez Jr scored a convincing decision victory over ex-UFC star Uriah Hall in his last outing last July. However, the 39-year-old has been fairly inactive over the past few years. Many are expecting Paul to get his hand raised on fight night as he targets future bouts against the likes of Anthony Joshua and Gervonta Davis. With just days to go until Paul's return, boxing fans have been left unimpressed after footage of him hitting the pads at the official open workout went viral. While many were quick to praise the American's speed, there were a few who were left rather uninspired by the clip. A fourth wrote: "He looks awful." Another replied: "This has to be a joke?" "He's f****** s****," wrote another. "You can't be serious?" Another user commented, while another replied: "Why does he look like he's getting worse not better." Nevertheless, Paul is eager to once again show the world what he is capable of and prove his critics wrong. With both men in the final stages of their respective camps, the pair recently went face-to-face to preview their blockbuster cruiserweight dust-up on Saturday night. Immediately, the two stars were quick to trade barbs before the interview exploded after the Mexican accused Paul of taking drugs. "He said you look like you on some s***," said Chavez Jr's translator. Unable to sit and take the rather bold accusation, the social media sensation hit back: "VADA is here today.... what the f***? This is how dumb you are! He is angry. He is an angry little elf. You and your team are a bunch of idiots. You are like 'oh he is on s***.' What are you trying to say?" Refusing to back down from the verbal spat, Chavez Jr replied: "When you fight (Mike) Tyson do not do anti-doping. When I fight in Tampa for the first time in 20 years they do not make me do anti-doping in your fight... so it is something to you. No cheating. I love boxing!" Paul's only loss in the ring so far came against long-time rival Tommy Fury back in 2023. Since then, he has regained some momentum. On Saturday night, he fully expects to get the job done. 'Well, start planning it out, buddy," he said. "I'm gonna have my team get the jersey, we'll hang it up in the arena. It'll be nice. We can get you a little Mexican band to play a nice song for you and send you off to hiding.'
