Man Utd announce departure of key member of backroom staff in surprise exit

Daily Mirror2 days ago

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has become making changes to his backroom coaching staff following the conclusion of a dreadful season and the first departure has been confirmed
Manchester United set piece coach Andreas Georgson has left the club following the conclusion of a miserable campaign. Georgson only arrived at United last summer from Norwegian club Lillestrom, but has now announced his swift exit after the club finished 15th in the Premier League.
He joined the club when Erik ten Hag was in charge and had the blessing of technical director Jason Wilcox. Georgson survived the cull of coaching staff that followed when Ruben Amorim arrived in November, bringing with him a whole host of coaches from Sporting Lisbon.

Having originally arrived in England to work with Arsenal 's set piece coach Nicolas Jover while he was working at Brentford, the Swede has also worked at Arsenal and Southampton.

The 43-year-old's specialism is in set pieces and throw-ins, but it is understood that his role at United was watered down by Amorim and he has chosen to move on.
"It has been a fantastic experience serving as first-team coach at Manchester United,' he said. "I will always be proud of my association with such a great football club. This period of my career has now come to an end as I leave to find a new challenge elsewhere.
"While excited about the opportunities ahead, I am sad to be leaving so many great colleagues and friends at Carrington, who make Manchester United truly special. Even during such a tough season, the professionalism and dedication of the players and staff never wavered, and I know there will be better times ahead."

Wilcox said: "Andreas has been a valued member of our men's first-team coaching set-up over the past year, and we are grateful for his significant contribution. He leaves with our thanks and best wishes for the next stage of his career."

The arrival of Amorim after Ten Hag was sacked in October saw Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar, Pieter Morel and Ruud van Nistelrooy leave. Amorim brought with him assistants Carlos Fernandes, Adelio Candido and Emanuel Ferro, goalkeeper coach Jorge Vital and sports scientist Paulo Barreira, but Georgson stayed on, partly due to his connection with Wilcox, who worked with him at Southampton.
Explaining his role to Swedish outlet Skanesport, he said: 'I am responsible for fixed situations, individual development and [to] drive the work with our identity as a team together with the head coach. My first special competence is set pieces and throw-ins and that is also what we have prioritised during the first period. That's where I have a unique knowledge bank and a unique method, which has worked in all clubs.
'Over time, we have also laid the foundations for the individual development programme and our identity as a team, and slowly I have also started those processes, which is very fun. Few think it's fun to practice, but everyone knows that a third of goals are scored on set pieces. I have to be clear to the players. 'Less is more' is often true.
'I'd rather practice fixed situations with full attention for ten minutes than for two hours without commitment, these are details that can statistically decide five table positions up or down.'

Liverpool 'formal bid' imminent for signing after Wirtz as four players wanted

Liverpool have enjoyed a fast start in the transfer window and look set for a busy summer injecting new talent into head coach Arne Slot's squad ahead of next season Liverpool may have just won the Premier League title but they are not resting on their laurels. The Reds have already completed one signing and are well on their way to another with the transfer window only having opened a day ago. Jeremie Frimpong has been added to Arne Slot's ranks following Trent Alexander-Arnold's exit. Florian Wirtz is set to be the next Reds deal to get over the line in the coming days. ‌ But the business may not end their with the future of Caoimhin Kelleher to resolve amid the arrival of Giorgi Mamardashbvili. Ibrahima Konate will soon enter the final year of his contract too with a decision to be made if Liverpool do not want a repeat of what happened last season with Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold. ‌ There is no shortage of speculation over Luis Diaz's future too. Interest from Saudi Arabia has arrived in addition to Barcelona for the Liverpool winger. Joao Pedro fee Brighton are reportedly willing to cash in on striker Joao Pedro if they receive a bid worth £70million. The 23-year-old is said to be drawing interest from Newcastle, Liverpool and Aston Villa ‌ Pedro's reputation has continued to rise since joining Brighton from Watford in 2023, netting 30 goals in 70 appearances across all competitions for the Seagulls. According to reports, Brighton are open to selling Pedro but they will remain firm on their asking price. The forward is under contract until 2028, meaning Brighton are under no pressure to sell, though Pedro was at the centre of some controversy last season. The Brazilian was dropped by manager Fabian Hurzeler following a bust up with teammate Jan Paul van Hecke in the latter stages of the campaign. ‌ Liverpool bid for Kerkez incoming A Liverpool bid for Bournemouth star Milos Kerkez is expected in the coming days, according to reports. The Cherries want more than £40m for the full-back who has spent two seasons at the Vitality Stadium. The Hungary international is said to have already agreed to the move to Anfield. The 21-year-old is keen to challenge himself at a higher level and could soon compete with Andy Robertson for a place in Arne Slot's starting lineup. Reds' transfer plan With a deal for Florian Wirtz approaching, there's little sign of Liverpool's work in the transfer market being done. The Reds still plan to bring as many as four players in this summer. ‌ Sky Sports report that Liverpool want to bring a new forward, with Hugo Ekitike on the club's list. The Reds are also preparing a move to secure a deal with Bournemouth for Milos Kerkez. Two more signings are also being eyed, but are claimed to be less pressing for the club. Liverpool want to land a young centre-back and a defensive midfielder to bolster their options.
