Michigan State run rules No. 25 USC, taking series victory over Trojans
Michigan State baseball is playing for a berth in the Big Ten Tournament with the regular season coming to a close next weekend. With just a few games left, and the Spartans in need of wins, MSU faced a tough challenge when they traveled to the west coast to take on No. 25 USC. Well, the Spartans have been up to the challenge.
On Friday, Michigan State defeated USC 5-0 on the back of their ace pitcher Joseph Dzierwa, and on Saturday, they followed it up with a massive victory over the Trojans. MSU run-ruled the Trojans in just eight innings, defeating USC 15-5.
Noah Bright and Parker Picot led the way for MSU, with both Spartans going four-for-five in the game, while Ryan McKay, Sam Busch, Randy Seymour and Caleb Berry all had two hits in the contest.
Tate Farquhar got the win on the mound for the Spartans, throwing 6.2 solid innings, and was relieved by Dominic Pianto. Pianto tossed 1.1 innings to shut the door on any comeback efforts.
Michigan State improves to 27-22 on the 2025 season, and with four games left, officially clinch themselves a season above the .500 line.

After visiting Michigan State on May 30 and Iowa on June 5, the Spartans picked up edge Cory House as their 10th 2026 recruit. The 3-star and No. 68 edge recruit in the country from Memphis, TN, declared his commitment on June 10. Rush ends coach Chad Wilts, who ultimately was credited as the primary recruiter, first gave House an offer back in February. However, the 6'5, 240-pound edge was wanted at 28 schools across the country, including 12 power conference schools. House now marks Michigan State's sixth consecutive defensive addition for the class of 2026 alongside safety Brayden Thomas, cornerback K.J. Deriso, safety Elijah Caldwell-Hardy, linebacker Braylon Hodge, and defensive tackle Chris Knauls. Advertisement Thomas, Deriso, and Hodge were also part of the first group of visitors. Thomas first committed to Iowa State on February 1. On May 31, one day after his official visit, the Ohio native hinted at flipping his decision before verbally committing to Michigan State on June 2. Currently Michigan State's recruitment is ranked 44th in the country, falling well behind its Big Ten rivals in the top 20 overall: USC (No. 1), Ohio State (No. 2), Penn State (No. 5), Rutgers (No. 9), Illinois (No. 12), UCLA (No. 14), Minnesota (No. 18), and Washington (No. 20). While the Spartans bumped from No. 57 to No. 44, being on the weaker end of recruitment will force head coach Jonathan Smith to rely on returners making leaps heading into his second year if he's unable to secure high-end recruits. During the first weekend of June visits, there were 33 Power Four commitments. That exploded during the second weekend with 54 pledges from Friday through Sunday night. He gives off vibes of Theo Wease Jr. during his time in Columbia – a big target who will catch a lot of passes; not a burner but explodes by defenders. Brady is a weapon and another big win for coach Eli Drinkwitz and staff. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH MISSOURI FANS AT Could USC's loss be Texas' gain? Brown and the Trojans parted ways when the four-star receiver from Waxahachie, Texas, wanted to take visits. The Longhorns, Ole Miss, Notre Dame, Illinois, Utah, Colorado, SMU and Baylor then emerged as the serious contenders. It really came down to Texas and Notre Dame for Brown and he picked the Longhorns over the weekend, giving an already loaded receiver room another big weapon. How many will USC take this recruiting class? The No. 1 class in the country has 28 commitments after adding Dyer over the weekend as the four-star DB from Duluth, Ga., joins an absolutely loaded defensive back haul that includes five-star Elbert Hill and four-star Brandon Lockhart among many others. Word started leaking out over the weekend that USC could land Dyer, an early South Carolina commit who said Georgia was the team to beat, and by Sunday it was done. The high four-star defensive end from Matthews (N.C.) Weddington made it clear throughout his recruitment that he wanted to play with his twin brother, Andrew, so that could have shaped his recruitment even more. The Gamecocks have only eight commitments but six are four-stars so there is a lot more quality than quantity right now. But South Carolina was a favorite of both throughout their recruitment as it ended with commitments over the weekend. When things slowed down with Ohio State in recent weeks, the Gamecocks jumped up even further. Since the brothers wanted to play together, South Carolina became a great option. This was a surprise commitment over the weekend because the four-star running back from Lancaster, Texas, was tagged to a program much closer to home. Lee had taken a visit to TCU but SMU was really the front-runner in his recruitment. He is from the South Dallas area, he was a main priority for the Mustangs and Lee made it no secret that he was highly interested in the program. Vanderbilt landed a weekend pledge but will have to fight off SMU and others down the stretch. Memphis Academy and he made it no secret they were a front-runner. Pittman said Ole Miss was 'for sure up there' and he didn't waste a lot of time as he was committed to the Rebels just days later. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH OLE MISS FANS AT UCLA pulled off a major recruiting victory over the weekend when the four-star offensive lineman from Vero Beach, Fla., picked the Bruins over Alabama, Illinois, Ohio State, South Carolina and Tennessee. What really pushed UCLA to the front was his visit to Westwood in recent weeks that completely blew him away. He's now become a big-time recruiter for this UCLA class on social media but the in-state schools and programs across the Southeast won't give up. M-E's Klinger earns News 34 Sports' Athlete of the Week
ENDWELL, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – Your winner of this week's News34 Sports Athlete of the Week is Cooper Klinger. The Spartans' baseball standout would record an RBI in both sectional finals games against Owego, which allowed the team to win them both in nail-biting fashion, 2-1 and 4-3. Since then, he has also helped M-E reach a final four appearance as they chase back-to-back state championships, having topped Section VII's Peru 7-4 in a game where he had a hit, run, and RBI.
