J.J. Spaun clinched his first major golf title at the US Open in Oakmont on Sunday, June 16, 2025, with a dramatic 65-foot birdie putt on the final hole. He overcame a challenging start, including five bogeys in the first six holes, to defeat Scotland's Robert MacIntyre by two strokes with a two-over 72.
Spaun's victory was highlighted by four birdies in the last seven holes, including a tap-in birdie at the par-four 17th hole where he drove the green. He joined golf legends Jack Nicklaus, Ben Hogan, Tom Watson, and Jon Rahm in finishing with consecutive birdies to win the US Open.

"Just to finish it off like that is just a dream. You watch other people do it... you see crazy moments. To have my own moment like that at this championship, I'll never forget this moment for the rest of my life," Spaun said.
"It's definitely like a storybook, fairytale ending, kind of underdog fighting back, not giving up, never quitting. With the rain and everything and then the putt, you couldn't write a better story. I'm just so fortunate to be on the receiving end of that," he added.

Prior to this victory, Spaun's only PGA Tour win was the 2022 Texas Open. He had been runner-up at both the Cognizant Classic and Players Championship this year, losing to second-ranked Rory McIlroy in a playoff at the latter event.

"I just felt like you keep putting yourself in these positions, like eventually you're going to tick one off," Spaun reflected.

A 96-minute weather delay proved crucial for Spaun after his difficult start. "I just needed to reset everything, kind of like start the whole routine over. I felt like I had a really good chance to win the US Open at the start of the day. It just unravelled very fast. But that break was actually the key for me winning this tournament," he explained.
The victory was particularly meaningful given Spaun's personal challenges. He was misdiagnosed with one type of diabetes in 2018, receiving ineffective treatment until 2021 when he was correctly diagnosed with a different type.

The morning of his victory had started chaotically. "My daughter had a stomach bug and was vomiting all night long. Kind of a rough start to the morning. I'm not blaming that on my start, but it kind of fit the mold of what was going on, the chaos," Spaun shared.
"I was just in shock, disbelief that it went in and it was over. I couldn't even believe what I witnessed when that went in," Spaun said about his winning putt.
Norway's Viktor Hovland, ranked 14th, finished third at 282 and witnessed Spaun's remarkable comeback. "That was unbelievable. After his start, it just looked like he was out of it immediately. Everyone came back to the pack. And then the one on 18, it's just absolutely filthy there," Hovland commented.
"As bad as things were going, I just still tried to just commit to every shot," Spaun said. "I tried to just continue to dig deep. I've been doing it my whole life."

Indian spikers in race against time before Asian Games

The Indian contingent after the silver-medal finish at the CAVA Nations League CHENNAI: Indian volleyball is not in the best shape. Issues on the administrative front have severely impacted the growth of the men's team, which appeared to be on the rise with a sixth-place finish at the Hangzhou Asian Games two years ago. India were forced to disappear from the international scene after that, before returning to action at the recent CAVA Nations League in Uzbekistan. Despite all odds, they remarkably secured the silver medal in the zonal tournament. Having masterminded India's second-place finish, head coach Dragan Mihailovic said that the team can break into the top-25 with good exposure. India, whose name did not feature on the FIVB ranking list ahead of the Nations League, are currently placed 52nd in the chart. '100%, it is logical that we can do much better with more matches. India have the potential and can be in the top-25 in the world,' Dragan told TOI. The players were involved in only a few top-level club tournaments between the Asian Games and Nations League – Club World Championships and Prime Volleyball League. With the next Asian Games about a year away, India are racing against time. 'The recipe for success is very simple. We have to keep the national-team players together for a longer duration and give them the opportunity to play more official and friendly matches. The biggest difference between India and the top Asian teams is international exposure. They play between 50 to 75 matches every year. To get there, India may need five to 10 years!' Dragan was 'pleasantly surprised' with the way the players, who were starved of game time at the international level, approached the Nations League. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Indian Truck Driver Now Earns ₹2.9 Crore Monthly (See how) prestigetrophy Learn More Undo 'Every one of them showed a professional attitude, right from the time we began our preparation to the time we returned to India. The support staff worked hard to ensure the players delivered their maximum,' said Dragan. Asked how India managed to make it to the podium, Dragan replied: 'We did not have a lot of time to prepare, so the complete focus was on how we were going to fit the players into our systems. We knew that if all the players understood and accepted the systems and respected them during matches, we would be able to perform well.' 'Video analysis key in modern volleyball' Dragan stressed on the importance of technology in modern volleyball. Recently, A Muthusamy and Jerome Vinith, members of India's Nations League squad, were all praise for the chief coach's methods, saying that he lent a 'new perspective'. 'Video analysis is a significant tool. We want to provide our players with an opportunity to stay in the same situation as the players in the world's best teams. With video analysis and a specialised programme, we enable the players to better understand their performances and the strengths and weaknesses of our opponents,' said Dragan.

Fans of the Baltimore Ravens were very excited to see him join the squad. His name still carries fear among defenders, but now there's a different kind of pressure. At 30 years old, the question is not about how hard he can hit, but how long he can last. Many athletes at his position begin to fade at this stage. As Derrick Henry prepares for the upcoming season, the biggest challenge he faces may not wear a jersey — it may be time itself. Derrick Henry joins the Baltimore Ravens but time may be the real opponent In March 2024, Derrick Henry signed a two-year, $16 million contract with the Baltimore Ravens. The signing garnered all of the sports headlines' attention. With the Tennessee Titans, this signaled the end of an age and the start of a new chapter for him. Fans of the Baltimore Ravens greeted him with open arms, hoping he would bring the same influence and leadership there as he had in his former position. Derrick Henry still works hard. He sticks to a strict training schedule. His speed and strength are still there. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo But turning 30 is a major point in the career of any NFL running back. Many begin to lose their edge. Derrick Henry knows this. Now, he isn't only playing to win games — he's trying to prove he can still perform at the top level. Derrick Henry and Lamar Jackson gear up to lead the team One month ahead of rookie minicamps, Lamar Jackson first took the field against Derrick Henry in May 2024. At the Under Armour Performance Center in Owings Mills, Maryland, it was customary procedure. This was their first time playing on the field as teammates. Lamer Jackson declared in a May 28 interview with ESPN:, "Derrick brings something special. He is strong, he is dynamic, and more than anything, he's about winning. " Head coach John Harbaugh said, "We are confident in him."He looks sharp and ready to go.' In a short chat with NFL Network on June 2, Derrick Henry shared, 'People say I'm past my prime. That's okay. I'll prove myself on the field.' Running for 1,167 yards over a total of 17 games in 2023, Derrick Henry was in the last year of his contract with Tennessee. Although it's still a good number, it's Derrick Henry's lowest total since 2018. The Baltimore Ravens hope both his experience and ability outweigh any decline, but everyone knows age still matters. Derrick Henry now has one more adversary to overcome - not one of his fellow competitors, but the clock.
