Zoe Ball sparks concern with gruelling health condition after BBC Radio 2 return

Daily Mirror4 days ago

Broadcasting legend Zoe Ball has revealed she's suffering from a new intense health condition and despite the intense pain caused by it, she's not letting it slow her down
Zoe Ball has been left in pain after being diagnosed with a new health condition. The broadcasting legend shared the news with her BBC Radio 2 listeners over the weekend, just weeks after she returned to the network.
The 54-year-old shared an update on her overall health and revealed that she had been diagnosed with bursitis. The condition is when fluid-filled sacs (bursa), which cushion the joints, become painful and inflamed. The main bursae is located next to tendons close to large joints, including the shoulders, elbows, hips and knees.

Treatment can include painkillers, rest, ice packs, antibiotics if there is an infection or a steroid injection into the affected joint. The update comes after Zoe previously confirmed she had been battling temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Speaking on the show this weekend, Zoe said: "Yes, it's come to that. Fifty-four and I got bursitis."

But despite the pain, she is persevering and is continuing to work out with her personal coach, Seth, to improve her strength and agility. She added: "Thank you to Seth, I found out I've got a… What is it?
"A rating of… Was it a four or five on the fitness level? I was quite impressed with myself - out of, I think it's nine or ten. You've gotta start somewhere, haven't you? He's helping me with my bursitis."
Zoe has previously been open about her TMJ battle, which affects the joint between the jawbone and temporal bone. It can cause issues such as jaw, neck and shoulder pain, as well as problems with vision, dizziness and headaches. The star recently underwent a lymphatic drainage massage in order to try and ease the pain from the condition.
She said on social media: "I have TMJ and wake most days with awful headaches from tension and jaw clenching. So grateful to Helen @thesculptresslondon for her magic.

"This is my face after I've seen her, check out my face before – yikes – picture 2. Can't recommend her enough. She also has the greatest playlists."
Zoe returned to Radio 2 in May this year after initially taking time away from her broadcasting duties to "focus on her family," after initially stepping down in December. But she left fans overjoyed when she announced her return this year.
She said: "Hello it's me, oh it's lovely to be back on a Saturday. This is where it all began for me back when I used to sweep up and make the teas, I used to do early mornings, and then I did the slot where Rylan is."
Zoe had handed over the reins of her breakfast show to pal Scott Mills, before it was announced by the corporation she would instead present a show later in the day.
At the time, Head of Radio 2, Helen Thomas said: "Zoe is one of the UK's most loved presenters, so I'm thrilled to announce that she has a new home on Radio 2 on Saturday lunchtimes. Plus she'll be hosting various specials for us throughout the year."

Vernon Kay urges BBC colleagues not to call HR after cheeky remark leaves them stunned

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Vernon Kay has pleaded with his BBC Radio 2 colleagues not to contact HR after making an "awkward" comment about the weather. The UK was basking in glorious sunshine last month, with the the Environment Agency even declaring drought status for the north-west of England following the driest start to spring in 69 years. However, the weather has turned for most of the country since the beginning of June, with the Met Office warning that a large area of the UK is set to be struck by fierce thunderstorms on Saturday, according to the Mirror. The recent wet weather has not gone unnoticed by Radio 2 host Vernon, who told his BBC colleague Scott Mills that he had an unfortunate moment while discussing the rain with the production team. (Image: Instagram) He said: "We were talking about the age gap between us on-air and the production team. Had a bit of an awkward moment this morning. You know the weather's turned, it's raining outside. I said to the Radio 2 team, a lot of desks on your left hand side, 'Hi team, morning news team, ooo the weather's changed. "And someone said 'Yeah it's horrible'. So I said 'Outside it's raining but inside it's wet', East 17. Didn't go down very well. I'm like 'Before you get onto HR, it's East 17." The lyrics in question come from the title song of East 17's second studio album 'Steam', which was released in the UK on October 17, 1994 by London Records. The album was certified 2× Platinum in the UK. However, with the song being released over 30 years ago, it seems that many of the BBC's production staff were unaware of the lyrics, before Scott came up with an idea. (Image: Getty Images for Great British Racing) Scott said: "Well, you should have checked it by me first and then gone to the office, do it the other way round next time. Come and check with me the phrase before you say it to the whole office." Last week, Vernon admitted to listeners that he was feeling a 'bit ropey' after enjoying BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend. During the show, the 51-year-old confessed that he suffers from a seafood allergy. It means Vernon is unable to eat prawns or cockles - a type of small edible shellfish. He says he discovered the allergy after undergoing a test. Vernon said: 'Radio 1, how are you feeling? A bit ropey, no, honestly, terrible, I'm sure I've eaten a prawn or a cockle. I'm allergic to cockles."
