New Alamein City to host Egypt International Sculpture Symposium, 'ART SPACE'

New Alamein City is preparing to host two international art events in 2025: the first Alamein edition of the Egypt International Sculpture Symposium from 6 to 30 August, and the second edition of 'ART SPACE' for the arts from 19 July to 30 September.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, these events are intended to underscore the city's growing status as an international destination for creativity. The sculpture symposium will be its first iteration in Alamein and the tenth to be held in Egypt overall.
The symposium will feature a selection of prominent international sculptors. The event aims to offer attendees the experience of observing live creative processes, as blocks of stone and recycled materials are transformed into artworks on the Mediterranean coast.
Ahmed Ibrahim, Head of the New Alamein City Authority, stated, 'We are pleased to host the Egypt International Sculpture Symposium in New Alamein City, and we affirm our commitment to providing all facilities to ensure the success of this important artistic event, reflecting the city's status as a leading platform for art and culture.'
He added, 'The events are open to the public, and we invite everyone to discover New Alamein City as an integrated destination that combines art, tourism, and a modern civilised character.'
Mohamed Hamida, an artist and the general organiser of the symposium, expressed his deep gratitude to the Ministry of Housing, Utilities, and the New Urban Communities Authority, appreciating the support of Ahmed Ibrahim.
Hamida further elaborated, 'Thirty leading international sculptors specialising in stone sculpture and the recycling of waste and metals will participate in the symposium. The artists have shown enthusiasm for visiting Egypt, and their works will be gifted to the city authority to adorn its streets and squares, in a step that enhances the visual identity of New Alamein.'
The symposium's programme will include sculpture workshops, a contemporary art exhibition, an 'art dinner' event at the closing ceremony, and a comprehensive tourist programme for the participating artists. This programme will feature visits to prominent landmarks in Alamein, Alexandria, the Pyramids, and the Grand Egyptian Museum, aiming to reflect the depth of the cultural experience Egypt offers.
Separately, the 'ART SPACE – Second Edition' events will run from 19 July to 30 September 2025. This will feature art exhibitions, visual installations, and live interactive workshops, designed to allow the public to engage directly with contemporary arts in an energetic and creative summer atmosphere.

Kelvin Cheung Brings His Third Culture Cuisine to Egypt's North Coast

Cheung is best known for Jun's in Dubai - No. 7 on MENA's 50 Best Restaurants 2025 - a restaurant rooted in what he calls 'third culture food'. By late afternoon, Ramla by Marakez had settled into a kind of hush. The tide traced its path softly. Sunlight clung to the limestone ledges, collecting in shallow bowls of shadow. Inside the open kitchen, Chef Kelvin Cheung was sorting through the day's findings - flesh-heavy figs, tight-skinned pomegranates, olives still dusted with earth. He had arrived less than 24 hours earlier. He hadn't asked many questions. 'I didn't even ask where it was,' he says. 'I was just like, yeah, I'm in.' The invitation came from Hoda and Sherif, the co-founders and masterminds behind Egypt's Flavor Republic. There was a shorthand to it. He trusted them. And now he was here again- but this time on Egypt's North Coast, watching the land ease into water - preparing to cook in a place he'd never seen before. The dinner - taking place from August 3rd to August 5th - is part of WHEN WE EAT and Ramla's Signature Dinner Series: a month-long culinary project that brings global chefs to the Mediterranean shoreline, one course at a time. Ramla - Marakez's sand-draped beachfront destination designed for the art of slow living - is the stage. From July 15 to August 15, it will host four chefs over four weeks. First came Mads Refslund. Kelvin follows. Brando Moros and Alex Atala close out the season. Cheung is best known for Jun's in Dubai - No. 7 on MENA's 50 Best Restaurants 2025 - a restaurant rooted in what he calls 'third culture food': a borderless, autobiographical cooking style shaped by his Chinese heritage, North American upbringing, and French training. 'All my food is based on flavor memories,' he says. 'Even though I grew up halfway across the world, the hope is that somewhere in the meal, we connect. That something I tasted then is something you feel now.' The kitchen still smelled of citrus and salt. Outside, the sea folded into itself with quiet persistence. 'I try to keep the menu fluid,' he says. 'What's hyper-local, what's in season, what we can get nearby.' So he went inland, to a small farm growing only what their family had always grown: figs, pomegranates, olives. 'That makes me want to take extra care.' For bookings head to:

People & Places Launches The Beach Clubhouse at The Med Ras El Hekma

People & Places Launches The Beach Clubhouse at The Med Ras El Hekma The Med by People & Places introduces Egypt's first open-air wellness zone, coastal dining by Sage, beachside training by LA7, a clubhouse for kids by Al Zomra, and curated events by the sea. The Med has opened its doors once again for the summer, inviting guests to step into a new pace of life along the shores of Ras El Hekma. This year, People & Places introduces The Beach Clubhouse, a multisensory hub that provides both weekday wellness and weekend events with market leaders like LA7, The Sage Experience and Al Zomra. At the centre of this experience is Sensations, the North Coast's first open-air wellness zone. Built for contrast and connection, it takes guests through heat and cold, a seaside sauna, rain showers, bucket splash, and ice plunge, all set against uninterrupted Mediterranean views. Along the shoreline, multi-level sunbeds fan out across the sand, surrounding a new beach bar that shifts in energy throughout the day. The Sage Experience anchors the culinary offering, a coastal menu built around seasonal ingredients, served in a setting designed for long lunches, shared plates, and end-of-day wind-downs. Fitness takes a front seat with outdoor sessions led by LA7's coaches, blending performance with place. While The Beach Clubhouse is for the whole family, Clubhouse Jr., run by Al Zomra, offers a dedicated space for exploration, creativity and supervised play especially for the younger guests. To open the season, The Med hosted a live performance by Naika, alongside a set by local favourite That Girl Sherry K, and a rotating lineup of DJs through sunset, the first of many gatherings planned across the summer. With more collaborations and curated moments to come, The Med continues to carve out a new kind of coastal culture, reflecting the energy of its people and the landscape that holds them.
