Hajj pilgrimage 2026: In a significant update for Hajj pilgrims, the Saudi Arabia government has announced new rules for the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage. Under the recently announced 2026 Hajj pilgrimage, husbands and wives will no longer be allowed to stay in the same room. As per the rule, Male and female pilgrims will be accommodated separately, and men will not be permitted to enter women's rooms during the pilgrimage.
Separating females and males of the family, these new regulations mark a major change in accommodation policy for Hajj. Earlier, the Haj Committee of India used to arrange shared rooms in rented hotels for pilgrims from the same state, often accommodating husbands and wives together depending on room size and availability. Notably, Hajj is a sacred pilgrimage that is required of every Muslim at least once in their lifetime, being one of the five pillars of Islam. Delhi Hajj Committee begin registration for Hajj 2026
In another important update for the Hajj pilgrims, Kausan Jahan, Chairperson of the Delhi Hajj Committee informed that registrations for Hajj 2026 commenced on July 7 and will conclude on July 31. As per the rules of the committee, the passports of the applicants should be valid until December 2026. Notably, as per the instructions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the committee is committed to providing the best facilities to the Hajj pilgrims.

As per a report by ANI news agency, Union Minister of Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju announced that the Union Government will begin accepting applications for the Haj pilgrimage in 2026 within a week, urging pilgrims to ensure timely submissions of documents to avoid future complications ahead of the pilgrimage.

'Technical issue causing high cabin temperature': Air India cancels Bhubaneswar-Delhi flight
An Air India flight AI500, from Bhubaneswar to New Delhi, was cancelled on Sunday after the flight encountered technical issues. The flight was cancelled due to technical issue that caused abnormal cabin temperatures while the flight was on the ground. 'Flight AI500 scheduled to operate from Bhubaneswar to Delhi on 3 August has been cancelled due to a technical issue causing high cabin temperature on ground prior to the departure. Our airport team in Bhubaneswar is assisting the impacted passengers with alternative arrangements to fly them to their destination Delhi. We regret the inconvenience caused,' reported ANI quoting Air India spokesperson. According to Air India, the issue in the flight was identified while the aircraft was still on the tarmac and preventing it from taking off as scheduled. Another Air India flight from Singapore to Chennai was cancelled on Sunday due to a technical issue. The flight AI349 was to be operated with an Airbus A321. In an official statement the Air India spokesperson said that the flight AI349 scheduled to operate from Singapore to Chennai has been cancelled due to a maintenance task identified prior to departure. "Arrangements are being made to fly the passengers to Chennai at the earliest. Hotel accommodation is being provided, and full refunds on cancellation, or complimentary rescheduling is also being offered to passengers based on their preference," Air India said. Meanwhile, the airliner added that the ground colleagues in Singapore are making every possible effort to minimise the inconvenience caused to the passengers due to this unforeseen disruption. Earlier on 31 July, an Air India flight AI2017, scheduled to fly from Delhi to London, experienced an unexpected delay after the aircraft aborted the takeoff. It returned to the bay after a suspected technical issue. The Air India spokesperson said that the cockpit crew made the decision to discontinue the take-off run in accordance with standard operating procedures. "Flight AI2017 operating from Delhi to London on 31 July returned to bay due to a suspected technical issue. The cockpit crew decided to discontinue the take-off run following standard operating procedures and brought the aircraft back for precautionary checks. An alternative aircraft is being deployed to fly the passengers to London at the earliest. Our ground staff is extending all support and care to the guests to minimise inconvenience caused due to this unexpected delay. At Air India, the safety and well-being of our passengers remain the top priority," the Air India spokesperson said.

Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai flags off new Jabalpur-Raipur daily express train
Indian Railways on Sunday introduced the Jabalpur–Raipur Express, a new train scheduled to operate daily between the two cities. The CM thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for running this express train from Raipur to Jabalpur.(HT File photo for representation) Numbered 11701/11702, the Jabalpur–Raipur Express will depart Jabalpur at 6 am and arrive in Raipur at 1.50 pm. On the return journey, it will leave Raipur at 2.45 pm and reach Jabalpur at 10.45 pm, running all seven days of the week. The nearly eight-hour-long journey will include around eight halts. The express train will stop at Madan Mahal, Nainpur, Balaghat, Gondia, Dongargarh, Rajnandgaon, and Durg, providing improved travel access for commuters. The train comprises a total of fifteen coaches and is expected to offer a convenient, safe, and comfortable travel experience for passengers, according to a post by South Western Railway on its X handle. Trains such as the Amarkantak Express (12853), Durg–Jabalpur Special (01702), and Durg–Bhopal Special (02853), which currently operate between Jabalpur and Raipur, may see reduced passenger loads following the launch of this new service. By travelling on the new Jabalpur–Raipur Express, passengers will be able to cover a distance of approximately 341 kilometres in about eight hours. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai flagged off the Raipur–Jabalpur Express from platform number 7 (Durg end) of Raipur station at 9:30 am on Sunday, as reported by Dainik Jagran. The Chief Minister thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for launching the new train service and said the people of Chhattisgarh would benefit from the improved connectivity, according to PTI. Union Minister for Railways, Information and Broadcasting, and Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw (via video conferencing), Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly Speaker Dr Raman Singh, MP Brijmohan Agarwal, South East Central Railway General Manager Tarun Prakash, RPF Inspector General Munnawar Khurshid, and Divisional Railway Manager Dayanand were also reportedly present at the inauguration.
