While cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru are often seen as the public face of metropolitan transport hubs, a quiet revolution in railway infrastructure is already being witnessed away from the urban spotlight. Outside of the urban rush, Rani Kamalapati Railway Station, in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, has created new standards for passenger comfort. It is the first station in the country to be developed and operated by the private sector with airport-like amenities. Formerly Habibganj Station, Rani Kamalapati Station marks a new benchmark in passenger amenities and station transformation. Where is India's first private railway station? Where is it located?
Rani Kamalapati Railway Station is the first railway station in the country to be developed and operated under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. On November 15, 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated this state-of-the-art station. It was dedicated to the Gond Queen Rani Kamalapati in her honor. What was the former name of Rani Kamalapati Station?
'The redeveloped Rani Kamalapati Railway station, named after brave and fearless Queen Kamalapati of the Gond kingdom, is the first world-class railway station in Madhya Pradesh. Redeveloped in Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode, the station has been designed as a green building with modern world class amenities that also takes into account ease of mobility for divyangjans. The station is also developed as a hub for integrated multi-modal transport,' reads the press release (dated November 14, 2021).
This station underwent a complete change under the Station Modernization Mission by Indian Railways, providing many world-class facilities to passengers that include: A spacious concourse area and a modern waiting lounge
Solar panel-powered infrastructure, promoting green energy
High-tech security systems with CCTV surveillance
Food courts and other branded retail outlets are to enhance the travel experience.

Officials look to make A.I. summit bigger than G20

Preparations are in full swing as the government gets ready to host the India Artificial Intelligence (AI) Summit next year in New Delhi, with people aware of the matter saying that the government wants it to be 'bigger than the G20 Summit.' The AI Summit will be held from 19 to 20 February, 2026, following similar high-profile meetings in Paris (2025), Seoul (2024) and Bletchley Park (2023).(Representational) The Summit will be held from 19 to 20 February, 2026, following similar high-profile meetings in Paris (2025), Seoul (2024) and Bletchley Park (2023). 'This will be a grand event, built around the model of G20. All global CEOs, along with heads of state have been invited,' said a government official at the ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY), which is the ministry leading the preparations of the Summit. 'Lots of moving parts right now. The government is still working around the programme schedule, smaller pre-events, and slowly sending out invitations.' Based on the central theme of 'People, Planet, and Progress,' the Summit's invitation, sent to a select few last month, read, 'The event will bring together world leaders, policymakers, innovators, and experts to discuss AI's role in driving equitable development, improving public services, and tackling global challenges while prioritizing ethics, safety, and inclusivity.' People familiar with the planning told HT that the Prime Minister's Office is closely involved, with clear instructions to make it a landmark global event bigger than the G20. At the G7 Summit held in Kananaskis, Canada in June 2025, PM Narendra Modi invited all G7 leaders to India's AI Summit. Ahead of the summit, MeitY has issued a call for proposals inviting government agencies, academia, intergovernmental organisations, private firms and non-profits from all over the world to host pre-Summit events between August 11, 2025 and 31 January 2026. These pre-events can be in the form of workshops, panels, hackathons, conferences, etc, and must be held in-person or hybrid, but not fully virtual. 'By hosting Pre-Summit Events, organisations can play an active role in shaping the Summit's deliberations and outcomes. Selected events will receive official co-branding and visibility as part of the Summit's global programme,' said MeitY. The pre-events must align with the seven smaller summit themes, namely human capital, inclusion, safe and trusted AI, resilience, science, democratising AI resources, and social good. Selected events will receive official co-branding. In the run up to the preparations, MeitY also held five virtual stakeholder consultations from June 6 to 8, chaired by ministry's additional secretary Abhishek Singh. These consultations included representatives from international organisations, industry, startups, academia, and civil society. The ministry also opened a public consultation forum from June 6 to 30, inviting citizens to share their suggestions on shaping the Summit's agenda. The previous AI Summit was held in Paris in February 2025, where 58 countries, including India, endorsed a joint statement on 'Inclusive and Sustainable Artificial Intelligence for People and the Planet.' The United States and the United Kingdom did not sign the declaration, which emphasised making AI more accessible while ensuring trust and safety in its deployment.

3 New Vande Bharat Chair Cars To Launch This Week, Including Nagpur-Pune; Sleeper Variant Soon

The decision on the remaining two routes is still under consideration, a railway ministry official said. The tentative routes are Belgaum-Bengaluru and Katra-Amritsar At least three Vande Bharat Chair Cars are expected to be inaugurated on August 10, with one of these connecting Nagpur and Pune, officials aware of the details told News18. The decision on the remaining two routes is still under consideration, a railway ministry official said. The tentative routes are Belgaum-Bengaluru and Katra-Amritsar, as of Wednesday. The nearly 900 km train ride between Nagpur and Pune will be completed in about 10 hours. Currently, Duronto Express is the fastest train on this route, taking nearly 13 hours. The Vande Bharat will start from Ajni station, about 3 km from Nagpur Railway Station, on the Delhi-Chennai line. Among existing Vande Bharat services, the Delhi-Varanasi route covers the longest distance of over 750 km, while the Tatanagar-Brahmapur train has the longest travel time at nine hours and 25 minutes. 'Three new trains are most likely to be flagged off on August 10. One of the routes will be Ajni-Pune," an official said. 'For the remaining routes, the final approvals are pending." The ministry has not issued any official details of the trains or routes as of now. As the Chair Car network expands, Indian Railways is gearing up to launch the much-anticipated Vande Bharat Sleeper variant—the third category after Chair Car and Vande Metro. Vande Bharat Sleeper Expected Soon: In High Demand Already Indian Railways is expected to introduce the Vande Bharat Sleeper train soon, with the ministry finalising the route, News18 has learnt. Earlier plans were for an August 10 launch, which is being reconsidered. In recent weeks, several requests have reached railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw's office for sleeper train allocations, including proposals from poll-bound states Bihar and West Bengal. The Nagpur Division of the central zone submitted a proposal in June for the country's first Vande Bharat Sleeper, but it remains under consideration. On Wednesday, BJP MP Captain Brijesh Chowta from Dakshina Kannada met Vaishnaw, urging the allocation of the sleeper train on the Mangaluru-Bengaluru route. 'There is huge demand for the Sleeper Vande Bharat, and the ministry will soon finalise the route," an official added. The Vande Bharat Sleeper offers three classes—AC First Class, AC 2-Tier, and AC 3-Tier—with a total capacity of 1,128 passengers. Delhi-Patna Route Under Consideration Among the frontrunner routes is Delhi-Patna, although Indian Railways is yet to make an official announcement. In 2024 and earlier this year, a special Vande Bharat Chair Car operated on this route during festive seasons, covering nearly 1,000 km in 11 hours and 30 minutes—the longest chair car journey to date. The first sleeper rake, built by Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai, has already undergone successful trials and was allocated to the northern zone in February, News18 was informed. Earlier this year, the ministry had announced plans to deliver 10 sleeper trains by December. As of July 31, only one train set had been produced. These new sets of trains are redefining travel comfort and convenience for millions of passengers across the country, with commuters expecting faster, safer, and more luxurious journeys.
