Rodri will not make Manchester City return till September
The 2024 Ballon d'Or winner missed most of last season due to ligament damage and without him City failed to mount a strong defence of their Premier League crown.
The 29-year-old Spanish international fought his way back to fitness but suffered a groin injury in City's defeat to Saudi club Al-Hilal at the Club World Cup in the United States last month.
'Rodri's getting better but he had a big injury in the last game against Al-Hilal and for the last five or six weeks,' Guardiola said in comments released on Saturday.
'He's training right now and in the last two or three days is better. Hopefully maybe the international break is when he will be really, really fit.
'Hopefully, in the games (prior to that) he can play some minutes but the important thing is to not have pain because we don't want him to be come back and injured, come back and injured.
'We will try desperately to avoid that but he's training the last two or three days with us and that's good.'
The City staff are also nursing Phil Foden and Mateo Kovacic back to fitness and both players joined Rodri in being left out of a pre-season game in Sicily this week.
City face Wolves in their first Premier League game of the season next weekend and then play Tottenham and Brighton before the September internationals. - AFP

Soccer-Man United boss Amorim hails Sesko's 'great potential' after big-money move
(Reuters) -New Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko has all the attributes needed to help bolster their attack, manager Ruben Amorim said as he hopes to unlock the 22-year-old Slovenian's full potential after his big-money move to Old Trafford. Sesko completed his 76.5-million-euro ($89-million) switch from German side RB Leipzig to United on Saturday, with a further 8.5 million euros in bonuses. He signed a contract until 2030 to complete a new-look front three alongside fellow close-season signings Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha. The Slovenia international, capped 41 times, scored 39 goals in 87 appearances across all competitions for Leipzig. "He has the characteristics that we needed," Amorim told MUTV on Saturday. "Ben is a player - with all the information that we have - that we need to stop the guy from working, not the opposite! "So that is also important. He's really young. Heung Min makes instant impact in LAFC debut
CHICAGO: South Korea star Son Heung Min made his Major League Soccer debut for Los Angeles FC (LAFC) on Saturday, providing a burst of energy as a second-half substitute in a 2-2 draw with the Fire in Chicago. Heung Min was brought down for a penalty in the 77th minute that Denis Bouanga converted to clinch a draw in the 81st minute – VAR confirming the spot-kick after the referee had allowed play to continue. "It was a great pass. Obviously it was definitely contact and it was definitely a penalty, I have no doubt about it," said Heung Min, who was sent sprawling by Carlos Teran after racing on to a through ball with the goal in his sights. "A bit disappointed not getting three points, but I think everybody put in a lot of effort. (I'm) happy I made my debut and I hope the goals come soon." The former Tottenham captain also had a string of shots on goal, including one blocked in second-half injury time. Heung Min signed with LAFC on Wednesday for a reported MLS record US$26 million after a decade with Premier League club Spurs, where he became a household name.
