Adams County coroner Francis Dutrow has spoken out about the whereabouts of the "possessed" doll Annabelle at the time of paranormal investigator Dan Rivera's death.
Newsweek reached out to Dutrow via email for comment outside regular working hours on Monday.
The Context
Rivera, 54, died suddenly on July 13 in a Gettysburg, Pennsylvania hotel room, the New England Society for Psychic Research (NESPR) said. A day prior to his death, Rivera hosted a showing of Annabelle while leading NESPR's sold out "Devils on the Run Tour."

Dan Rivera/Instagram;What To Know
Dutrow said Annabelle, who inspired the movie The Conjuring, was not at the scene of Rivera's death, People reported.
In a previous statement to Today, Adams County Chief Deputy Coroner Scott Pennewill said Rivera's cause of death was "nothing suspicious."
"The coroner's office and the state police were called to the scene on Sunday night," he told the outlet. "He did go for an autopsy today and it's pending."
According to a Pennsylvania State Police report, Rivera "was discovered in his room by coworkers."
Annabelle was given as a gift to a nursing student in the 1960s, but was deemed "demonically possessed" by late NESPR founders Ed Warren, a demonologist, and his wife Lorraine Warren, a trance medium. Per NESPR's website, the Warrens placed the doll in a glass box "to contain the evil spirited entity."
Annabelle is usually housed at the Warrens' Occult Museum in Monroe, Connecticut but has recently been on tour throughout the United States.
What People Are Saying
The NESPR wrote in a statement posted to Facebook: "It's with deep sadness that Tony, Wade, and I share the sudden passing of our close friend and partner, Dan Rivera. We are heartbroken and still processing this loss. Dan truly believed in sharing his experiences and educating people on the paranormal. His kindness and passion touched everyone who knew him. Thank you for your support and kind thoughts during this difficult time."
Ghost Hunters star Jason Hawes addressed Annabelle rumors surrounding Rivera's death in a message shared to Facebook: "Recently the World lost a good man. Dan Rivera was an Army veteran, a father of four, a husband, and someone who truly cared about people.
"What's even harder to see right now are the posts blaming his death on things like the Annabelle doll and attacking places like Ghostly Images of Gettysburg Tours and other locations for having events. That needs to stop. His family shouldn't have to read that kind of nonsense while they're grieving.
"Some people are using his passing to push an agenda for profit, and it's just disgusting. Dan was a family man, a respected paranormal investigator, and he left this world way too soon.
"Let's focus on remembering Dan for who he was, not turning his death into some made up bull**** story to get clicks or attention.
"Honor the man. Forget the garbage."
Ghost Adventures star Zak Bagans said in a statement to Us Weekly: "My thoughts and prayers go out to [Rivera's] family and friends. I can only speak to my experiences with Annabelle. I did have the opportunity to investigate Annabelle when the owner brought her to my museum in 2017. I got very affected by her and it kind of caused me to touch the doll. The owner didn't like that too much. It was a demonic infestation and severely affected me, and I was literally in the hospital the next day. It was a two-month-long attachment and one of the worst experiences of my life."
What Happens Next
The Conjuring: Last Rites, the latest film in The Conjuring franchise, will hit theaters in September.
Pennewill said Rivera's autopsy will likely take 60 to 90 days, per Today.

‘I Charge Them More Every Single Time:' Tech Reveals 1 Quality Guaranteed to Make Your Mechanic Hate You

A mechanic who goes by Claw Boss (@reelclawboss) on Instagram shared a customer pet peeve: Asking non-stop questions while he works. And it seems like there are more than a few other folks in the craft who share his mindset. The auto tech's short clip is set to the tune of a song that repeatedly implores a person to 'shut the [expletive] up,' as part of its hook. Pairing this tune with the text overlay in their clip, along with a group of dancing chickens, intones that the service tech isn't a fan of this particular client interaction. 'We all have that one customer. Stands in the shop while you're working on their car and won't stop asking questions,' he captions Commenters Were Divided Folks had differing opinions on the clients they render service to in their respective auto businesses. One person remarked that a patron has the right to ask questions since they're the one paying for their car to be fixed. 'Customer's car, customer's paying,' one said. However, there was another Instagram user who seemed to concur with Claw Boss's commentary on the chatty individuals who roll into his shop. They said, 'Best part of our shop: Only staff allowed in shop.' Another person, who said that they were an auto tech themselves, echoed the aforementioned sentiment. According to them, they've never been employed in an automotive service center that allowed customers to watch the work techs were doing. 'Never in my life have I seen a shop allow customers in the shop,' they penned. 'I be on the other side of the glass like *hey, did you make sure to torq that bolt!? While I smoke my dart and continue to stare. Lol all jokes aside I do enjoy watching and learning.' But this didn't appear to be par the course for all folks getting their cars fixed. One person who got their vehicle's air conditioning system repaired expressed that they were grateful to watch their mechanic fix the issue. Moreover, they said the tech was forthcoming about the work he was completing. 'My mechanic let me watch him do my AC for my truck. I asked a few questions and he didn't mind. He seemed to like that I was trying to learn,' they said. Other Mechanics Sound Off It seems like Claw Boss wasn't the only service tech who took to social media to decry this specific customer behavior. YouTuber Barricade Garage also professed he wasn't too fond of someone looking over his shoulder while he was working on a car. In a caption for his video that touches on this same topic, he writes, 'most mechanics usually want to be left unbothered when working on your vehicle.' Additionally, Redditors in this r/MechanicAdvice post also discussed this same client phenomenon. The thread's original poster wanted to know if it was considered poor manners on his part to watch the tech replace the tires on his vehicle. One person remarked that the practice is 'a touchy subject with a lot of shops,' due to how different customers react to the work being performed on their vehicle. They said that customers might try to nickel-and-dime labor time, not considering that a mechanic who has accrued decades of experiencing fixing problems is able to rectify a problem more quickly than a less experienced tech. Thus, their complaints about inaccurate labor times are invalidated. To drive this point home, they shared an anecdote about a client who went 'ballistic' for being billed for 30 minutes of labor on a muffler replacement. They said the tech swapped out the component in around five minutes and asked why they were charged for 30 minutes of labor instead. Following this, the Reddit user explained to the customer, 'The guy who just put your muffler on has almost 30 years' exhaust experience. And has it down to an art. If I'd known you wanted to wait longer I would have done it myself - I'm a diagnostic tech and really bad at exhaust. It takes me forever,' they wrote. Some Mechanics Don't Mind Watchful Customers Another commenter in the same Reddit thread said it all boils down to the type of person who is watching them perform their work. This user said, 'I don't mind people watching because they are curious.' Although, when they begin to chime in with their own repair strategies, or when they reference other handy people they know, that's when they begin to take issue with sideline commentary. 'Don't call me a liar, and don't bring it to me to fix it if you trust [someone else] so much,' they penned. In this Quora post, some auto techs argued that barring customers from entering the shop area boils down to potential safety concerns. They said that due to heavy machinery, car lifts, and an array of moving parts, clients could be at risk of bodily harm. In order to mitigate these possible incidents from occurring and any legal actions that could be levied against the shop, many service centers will bar folks from watching their cars being worked on. Neighbor Rescues Injured Cat—X-Ray Reveals the Unthinkable

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. An act of concern turned into a disturbing revelation when a stray cat turned out far more injured than his rescuer realized. The cat, now named Brewster, was rushed to an emergency vet clinic by a neighbor, where it was revealed that the feline was shot in the leg. The realization led to a plea for help from North Shore Animal League America in a Facebook post, which reached at least 10,000 people who reacted to it. Initially, it was suspected that Brewster had been hit by a car, but X-rays revealed a far more sinister truth: Brewster had been shot, leaving him with a severely fractured front leg. Stock image: A stray cat looks up expectantly. Stock image: A stray cat looks up rescue shared Brewster's harrowing story. "URGENT RESCUE ALERT: Brewster Needs You. Brewster's life nearly ended before it had a chance to begin," it wrote. "His only option would have been euthanasia unless someone was able to where we came in." With his "shattered front leg" and no owner to afford his necessary medical care, Brewster faced the grim prospect of euthanasia. That's when the rescue stepped in, taking the tuxedo cat into its care. He was first brought to its Adirondack campus before being transported to the Port Washington, New York campus. There, a medical team grew determined to do everything possible for his injury. "They are working urgently to stabilize him and explore every option before turning to amputation as a last resort," the post read. The organization emphasized its commitment to the cat, stating, "Brewster suffered for days, but we are committed to his care and his comfort. His recovery will take time, medical expertise, and critical resources. All of which we're committed to providing for this sweet, handsome boy." How Did People React? The story of Brewster's brutal injury ignited outrage and sympathy among Facebook users. Many condemned the perpetrator who appeared to have shot the cat. "Poor Brewster! shoot a poor cat! I hope the perpetrator is caught and serves some serious jail time and fined heavily for this horrible abuse! Brewster is a handsome Tuxie cat with a cute face! Hope he heals up just fine and gets his furever home asap!" Other users shared similar experiences of finding injured strays and praised the rescue's efforts. One person recounted a personal story: "Years ago, we had a stray cat who took refuge in our garage—I left the door open just enough so he could get in—had food, water and a bed. One day, I opened the door and he was waiting for me with blood on his fur. A local rescue group took him in and got him taken care of at the vet. He had been shot, but he was okay. They named him 'Bullet.' He was fostered and ended up being so thankful for the rescue group." The broader issue of animal cruelty and the vulnerability of cats drew passionate responses. "Thank you for helping this fur baby," another commenter wrote. "Wish we could save them I wish 'saving' cats wasn't ever necessary." North Shore Animal League America is urging the public to donate now to help cover Brewster's extensive medical costs, emphasizing their commitment to providing him "the care, comfort, and second chance he truly deserves." Newsweek reached out to North Shore Animal League America for comment via email.
