Actor
Kim Soo-ha
will appear in London's West End this September in a special one-night concert performance of the
Korean musical
'Swag Age'. The performance will take place at the
Gillian Lynne Theatre
on September 8.
Kim, 31, debuted in the West End in 2014 as the second cover for the lead role in 'Miss Saigon', later performing the role more than 30 times during her first run. Over the next four years, she worked across the UK, Germany, Switzerland, and Japan before returning to Korea in 2019 to join 'Swag Age'.
The musical, developed in 2017 as a student project at the Seoul Institute of the Arts, combines Joseon dynasty history with hip-hop and Korean traditional music, earning multiple awards and professional runs in Korea.
Korean original musicals gaining global visibility
Kim's upcoming performance comes at a time when Korean original musicals are expanding their presence internationally. In June 2025, '
Maybe Happy Ending
', a domestic production set in Seoul about two obsolete helper robots, won six awards at the 78th
Tony Awards
in New York, including Best musical.

Michael Porter Jr draws Kanye West comparison from ex-NBA player over outspoken personal interviews

Michael Porter Jr. Image via: Ron Chenoy/ Imagn Images Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. has made headlines this summer for reasons that have little to do with basketball. After his move from the Denver Nuggets, Porter Jr. has been unusually candid in interviews, offering blunt takes on topics ranging from dating in the league to sports gambling and the education system. His recent interview discussing his dating life and association with women has now earned him a comparison to one of pop culture's most unapologetic figures, Kanye West . Former NBA star Evan Turner instantly compared Michael to West. Michael Porter Jr gets a Kanye West comparison from Evan Turner It was former NBA player Evan Turner who made the connection, posting on social media, 'Putting a microphone in front of MPJ is like putting one in front of 'YE. Y'all need to stop.' Kanye West's interviews are notorious for their unrestrained honesty, and Turner's comment suggested Porter shares that same 'say anything' energy. — thekidet (@thekidet) Turner isn't alone in his criticism. Channing Frye, another former player, has publicly said Porter's PR team should pull him back from the media circuit altogether. On the One Night with Steiny podcast, Porter suggested the NBA's gambling landscape made it possible for players to tank games for personal gain. He also discussed his brother Jontay Porter's betting scandal, framing it as a product of financial desperation. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Mountain Gear for Extreme Conditions Trek Kit India Learn More Undo In another interview, he declared he wouldn't send his children to public school, quipping that they might 'come home identifying as a cat.' Perhaps most divisive were his dating remarks. Porter openly stated he avoids dating women with past relationships in the NBA, explaining, 'If she's ever been with somebody that I know I'm cool with, I'm not about to ever wife you… I'm not trying to be on the court, and I give you a bucket or something, and you're talking about 'that's why I hit your girl.'' Michael Porter Jr is set for his brand new season with the Brooklyn Nets While Porter's bluntness has sparked debate, his basketball responsibilities are about to grow. After averaging 18.2 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.1 assists last season as Denver's third scoring option, he now steps into a lead role with the Nets. Brooklyn is counting on him to anchor their offense and potentially contend for a scoring title if he stays focused. 'Five-star treatment? Face the music': Kannada filmstar Darshan, Pavithra back in jail; 'he abused the liberty of bail', says Supreme court

NEW DELHI/BENGALURU: In a big setback to Kannada filmstar Darshan in the Renukaswamy murder case, Supreme Court Thursday cancelled the actor's bail, ordered his re-arrest and speedy trial in the case, while warning the state govt against allowing any five-star treatment to the accused in jail. About five hours after the verdict came in, the actor was taken into custody along with his girlfriend Pavithra Gowda and five other accused, whose bail was similarly revoked by the top court. With two of the accused in transit from Chitradurga, Darshan, Pavithra and three others were remanded in judicial custody and sent to Bengaluru Central Prison in Parappana Agrahara Thursday night. Observing that persons regardless of popularity are equal before the law, a bench of Justices JB Pardiwala and R Mahadevan set aside the Karnataka HC order of Dec 13, 2024, saying it suffers from "various infirmities". Moreover, the high court undertook examination at the pre-trial stage," the bench said. Justice Pardiwala said the bail-cancellation judgement conveys a message that however big the accused may be, he or she is not above the law. Five-star treatment? Face the music, SC tells govt The top court cautioned the state govt against providing special treatment to the accused in jail. 'The day we come to know the accused persons are being provided five-star treatment, the first step would be to place the superintendent into suspension along with all other officials,' the court said, adding the HC committed a 'manifest perversity' in the exercise of its discretion, warranting cancellation of bail. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Many Filipinos don't know about this! Read More Undo The top court said popularity cannot be a shield for impunity, nor influence, resources and social status be the basis for grant of bail, adding evidence in the case indicates a premeditated and orchestrated crime, where the accused allegedly took the law into his own handsand engaged in systematic destruction of evidence. 'The bail order was granted primarily on the basis of the alleged urgent medical condition of the actor. However, a bare perusal reveals the plea was misleading, vague and grossly exaggerated. This establishes he abused the liberty of bail,' Justice Mahadevan, who penned the judgment for the bench, said. All seven arrested — including Nagaraju R, Lakshman M, Jagadeesh alias Jagga, Pradosh S Rao, and Anu Kumar — were taken to Annapoorneshwarinagar police station in west Bengaluru late Thursday. They were produced before the magistrate at his official residence in Koramangala and remanded in judicial custody. S Vishwajith Shetty of the high court granted the bail in Dec, citing delays in recording the statements of the witness and not furnishing the details of their arrest. After he came out of jail on regular bail, Darshan started participating in film-related events and acted in his next movie, which was shot in Dubai and Thailand. Arrested within hours of verdict Sources said Bengaluru city police commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh formed multiple teams, fanned them out across the city to arrest the accused within hours of the SC verdict. While Pavithra was arrested from Rajarajeshwarinagar, Darshan was picked up from an apartment in Hosakerehalli, Banashankari III Stage, around 4.15pm.
