7-Eleven employee, left brain-dead after manager ‘sat on top of her' in violent attack, dies

Indian Express7 days ago
Jessica McLaughlin, a 7-Eleven employee, tragically passed away after her manager allegedly sat on top of her during a violent attack on June 24. According to the New York Post, the employee was on life support, and died eight days after the attack.
The report stated that McLaughlin was on duty at the convenience store when she was allegedly assaulted by her female manager following an altercation around 2:00 pm. The accused manager, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, held McLaughlin down on the ground and sat on top of her, preventing her from breathing. The onlookers and colleagues attempted to stop her; however, they were left injured.
'Jessica walked into work expecting a normal day. But instead, she was violently and senselessly attacked by one of her managers,' Sean McLaughlin, her brother, said in a GoFundMe created to raise funds for her funeral. 'She (the manager) held her down, sat on top of her, and didn't let her breathe,' her brother alleged.
The deceased's father, Clancey McLaughlin, claimed that her brain was deprived of oxygen for more than 10 minutes. 'She's basically declared brain-dead now,' news station KTLA quoted Clancey earlier.
McLaughlin collapsed after she managed to free herself. However, she couldn't breathe and asked her colleagues to call 911. Reportedly, a person also performed CPR but could not revive her. She was rushed to Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital in serious condition, where she died eight days after the attack.
According to the New York Post, the accused manager allegedly deleted the CCTV footage after the incident. The company later released a statement, promising a thorough probe into the matter. 'Our hearts are with those impacted during this difficult time. The suspect has been terminated, and we continue to fully cooperate with law enforcement in their investigation.'

Baby Dies In US After Mother Leaves Him In Hot Car To Get Lip Filler

A baby died after his mother left him inside a car on a hot day to get a lip filler at a medical spa in Bakersfield, California, authorities said. The tragic incident happened on June 29. She left her two children, a one-year-old boy and a two-year-old boy, in the car. The 20-year-old Maya Hernandez has pleaded not guilty. Hernandez has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and two counts of child cruelty. According to police, Hernandez admitted to knowing her actions were irresponsible. As per a report filed in Kern County Superior Court, Bakersfield Police slammed Hernandez for "placing the value of her appearance over the safety and well-being of her children". The Court documents mentioned that Hernandez left the vehicle running with the air conditioning on. But as per a car dealership, the vehicle can turn off after about an hour of inactivity. The children were left without air conditioning for approximately 90 minutes. When she came back from the spa, she found the baby foaming at the mouth, and he was also having a seizure. She called the emergency services, and both were rushed to a hospital for treatment. The one-year-old had no pulse and was not breathing. His lips were blue. His internal body temperature was 107.2 degrees, according to the police report. The one-year-old was pronounced dead at a hospital. Meanwhile, the two-year-old was placed in protective custody after getting treatment at the hospital. Hernandez had previously asked the spa if she could bring her children inside, and the staff replied, "Sure if you don't mind them waiting in the waiting room." She told police that she left them in the car as she had no idea about the length of time it would take for her procedure. She is being held on more than $1 million bail and is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing. The incident has sparked outrage, with many criticising Hernandez's decision to prioritise her cosmetic procedure over her children's well-being. A GoFundMe page has been set up to support the family.

Idaho murders: Kaylee Goncalves' family reveals she ‘fought for her life' in painful last moments, ‘She was sleeping…'

The family of Kaylee Goncalves, one of the University of Idaho students murdered by Bryan Kohberger, has opened up about the young woman's harrowing last moments in a social media post. Kohberger has been accused of brutally stabbing Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle, Madison Mogen and Kaylee to death in the early morning hours of November 13, 2022, at a rental home near their campus in Moscow, Idaho. Idaho murders: Kaylee Goncalves' family reveals she 'fought for her life' (kayleegoncalves/Instagram) The Gonclaves family was furious about a plea deal that would help Kohbegrer dodge the death penalty. They expressed their anger in various posts on their Facebook family page. In one of those posts, they opened up about how Kohberger showed no mercy to Kaylee. 'It was clear that she fought for her life' 'I am sorry if you don't agree with our recent decisions on the plea deal. BK literally is too afraid to die, but he wasn't afraid to kill. BK wanted a plea deal and he was given one. Kaylee wasn't offered a plea deal. The state is showing BK mercy by removing the death penalty. BK did not show Kaylee ANY mercy. People tell us we should be happy with life in prison without parole as he will never get out(how is that not a win they ask) well the death penalty also means life on death row. We knew it would be decades before he ever would face the firing squad. We knew that his execution was not going to happen anytime soon, BUT his life on DEATH ROW while serving his time would have been much worse than serving his time as life in prison. He doesn't deserve life in prison. He deserved life on death row,' the family wrote. They revealed that Kohberger beat Kaylee before killing her. 'Also people say that the Goncalves don't want justice, they want vengeance,' the post adds. 'Well let me ask you a question about your 21yr old daughter was sleeping in her bed and BK went into her house with the intention to kill her and he did, by stabbing her MANY times, as well as beating her in the face and head while it was clear that she fought for her would you want? Justice or vengeance ? Maybe a little bit of both? I'm curious how you all would feel. It gets so old having people say we want vengeance and make it sound like we are animals for having those feelings... I just find it so hard that so many people are judging us and they have never stepped foot in our shoes.' In the same post, the family decided torefund more than $85,000 they received on a GoFundMe that was launched during Kohberger's trial. 'Please give me time to figure out the best way to do this,' they wrote.

‘You will pay for it': Hero Italian police dog killed after eating metal nail spiked sausages; PM Giorgia Meloni slams ‘cowardly act'

Hero Italian police dog killed after eating metal nail spiked sausages (Image: Facebook/Arcangelo Caressa) In a shocking incident, an Italian police dog died after ingesting sausages spiked with nails, believed to have been intentionally planted. Authorities suspect Bruno was targeted in retaliation for his role in cracking down on illegal dog-fighting rings, reports New York Post. When Bruno's trainer, Arcangelo Caressa, shared details of the incident online, it quickly gained national attention, even drawing a response from Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. "A heartbreaking piece of news," PM Meloni posted on X, alongside a photo of herself with Bruno from a past rescue. "A vile, cowardly, unacceptable act." The gruesome killing sparked a nationwide manhunt for Bruno's killers. Caressa believes the attack was an act of revenge. According to BBC reports, the trainer had received death threats in the weeks leading up to the incident, fuelling suspicions that the killing was pre-planned. "I know who you are and you will pay for it," Caressa warned those behind the act in a social media post. He refused to share images of the "atrocity," describing them as too gruesome. 'It felt like I died with him,' Caressa wrote in another post. Over the years, Bruno had saved nine lives, worked alongside the Dog Rescue Unit, and was part of several successful operations involving the takedown of illegal gangs and animal abuse rings. 'You fought for your whole life to help human beings, and the same humans did this to you,' the trainer added. 'I love you, my friend.' 'He wasn't just a dog. He was family. He was a hero, and heroes never die,' he mentioned in another post Caressa cooperated with prosecutors and reportedly named two suspects he believes are involved in the crime. CBS News reported that Italian lawmaker and animal rights advocate Michela Vittoria Brambilla filed a criminal complaint under a new law she helped write, which increases penalties for animal cruelty and killing.
