Cleveland car dealership to be demolished after arson; investigators seek public's help

Yahoo25-03-2025
CLEVELAND (WJW) – Cleveland arson investigators are asking for the public's help solving a catastrophic fire that occurred just after midnight on Dec. 9 at West 48th and Lorain Avenue in the city.
On Monday, Cleveland Division of Fire Public Information Officer Lt. Mike Norman released new video and pictures of a vehicle that they are looking for in connection with the fire.
'There is a silver 2013 Suburban. That's a vehicle of interest. We want to find out where that vehicle is and possibly the owner of that vehicle,' said Norman.
The massive and malicious blaze started inside the family business Byright Auto Sales and quickly grew out of control.

Prized and vintage classic vehicles from the 60s and 70s fueled the inferno.
'There was a lot of fire in the explosions going on inside. This building (was) a dangerous fire to fight,' said Norman. 'We had 19 units, almost 60 firefighters, we worked throughout the night, we had five engine companies, four ladder companies, two rescue squads.'
At one point, it looked like the fire was going to also consume a neighboring apartment building, but fortunately a firewall stopped it.
However, the building was a total loss with early damage estimates in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
On Monday, Norman returned to the scene as the city prepared to demolish the building Tuesday.
'You can see how compromised the building is,' he said. 'It's a collapse hazard. It's very dangerous.'

They're hoping someone will see the video and pictures of the silver Suburban and come forward.
'Arson is a threat to both the civilian population and also to the firefighters,' he said.
A reward of $7,500 is being offered in the case by Cuyahoga County Crime Stoppers. Tipsters can submit information online or by calling 216-252-7463. Tipsters can remain anonymous.

New Trailer For Mark Ruffalo's HBO Crime Drama Series TASK — GeekTyrant

HBO has released a new trailer for Mark Ruffalo's new seven-episode crime drama Task , which comes from Brad Ingelsby, the creator of Mare of Easttown . The story is set in the working-class neighborhoods of suburban Philadelphia, and follows Ruffalo as an FBI agent assigned to head up a special task force targeting a series of increasingly violent robberies. The twist is that one of the criminals is a seemingly normal family man, played by Ozark 's Tom Pelphrey, who's pulled into a spiral of desperation and crime. The supporting cast includes Emilia Jones ( CODA ), Jamie McShane, Sam Keeley, Thuso Mbedu ( The Underground Railroad ), Fabien Frankel ( House of the Dragon ), Alison Oliver, Raúl Castillo, Silvia Dionicio, Phoebe Fox, and Martha Plimpton. Ingelsby serves as creator, writer, and showrunner, and he's joined by executive producers and directors Jeremiah Zagar ( We the Animals ) and Salli Richardson-Whitfield ( Winning Time ). Ruffalo also pulls double duty as EP, with production support from wiip and Public Record. Task looks to be another slow-burn, emotionally resonant crime story with a focus on the blurry lines between law and criminality. The series premieres Sunday, September 7 at 9pm on HBO and will stream next day on HBO Max.

The CIA Spy Who Thwarted Taiwan's Nuclear Plans

During the summer months, when the winds of eastern Idaho don't make them unplayable, Gray Chang likes to head to one of the courses near his home for a round of golf. In his 80s, with a pencil-thin mustache and an impish laugh, he strikes an amicable if unremarkable figure. Chang has lived largely anonymously since arriving in Idaho Falls in 1990, holding a steady job at the nearby laboratory — the details of which were too technically bewildering for most to probe further. He raised three children, and in retirement tries to squeeze in two golf games a week. The prosaic, utterly suburban existence befits, almost too perfectly, an international spy trying to blend in. And that's just what Chang was.
