Karnataka HC to government: Justify suspension of IPS officer Vikash
Hearing the appeal filed by the state government against the July 1 order passed by the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), which quashed the suspension of Additional Commissioner of Police (West) Vikash Kumar Vikash, the division bench of Justice SG Pandit and Justice TM Nadaf said 'you (government) have to justify whether it was proper to keep the officers under suspension, or whether shifting the officers to another post would have been sufficient...'
Advocate-General K Shashikiran Shetty replied that he will be able to furnish records to justify suspension. Praying to court to stay the CAT's order, he informed that Vikash had gone in uniform to take charge.
Senior advocate Dhyan Chinnappa, appearing for the IPS officer, submitted that he is not going to file a contempt petition against the state. The court observed that the suspension order was lifted, but they (state) have to pass an order for reinstatement. When the matter is taken up for final disposal, do not precipitate, the court told Dhyan Chinnappa, who submitted that he would not precipitate the matter. Further hearing was adjourned to July 9.

Man jailed for 20 yrs for minor's kidnap & rape
Kendrapada: The special Pocso judge sentenced a 22-year-old man to 20 years of imprisonment on Wednesday for kidnapping and raping a 17-year-old girl in the district last year. The court imposed a fine of Rs 55,000 on the convict. Failure to pay would result in his sentence being increased by another year. Stay on KJ George, officials extended till Aug 28
Bengaluru: The high court extended till Aug 28 the interim stay on further proceedings before the special court in a complaint against energy minister KJ George and some Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) officials. This is in connection with the July 17 private complaint filed by BJP functionaries alleging irregularities in issuance of a tender for procuring and installing smart electric meters across the state. High court notice to OMC on CBI plea for tougher penalty
Hyderabad: Justice K Lakshman of the Telangana high court on Wednesday issued a notice to Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC), which was convicted in an illegal mining case, directing it to respond to an appeal filed by the CBI. The CBI has challenged the trial court's order, arguing that the penalty of ₹1 lakh imposed on the company was 'grossly inadequate' and must be enhanced to serve as a deterrent against corporate fraud. On May 6, the principal special judge for CBI cases, Hyderabad, had convicted OMC under sections 120-B and 420 of the IPC and imposed a fine of ₹1,00,000. The court further ruled that if the penalty was not paid, the company's managing director, BV Srinivas Reddy, would undergo one year's simple imprisonment. According to the prosecution, OMC, in collusion with public servants and private players, engaged in deliberate boundary shifting, unauthorised road construction inside forest areas, and large-scale illegal extraction and transport of iron ore. It was also alleged that the company demolished the historic Sugalamma temple within the forest to further its operations. The CBI alleged that over 29.32 lakh metric tonnes of iron ore were illegally dispatched, causing massive revenue losses to the state exchequer.
