New Delhi, Labour and industry must work in close coordination for the greater good of the nation's workforce and economy, Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Monday.The Minister for Labour & Employment made the remarks while chairing a high-level meeting of state labour and industry ministers on the Employment Linked Incentive Scheme (ELI).The objective of the meeting was to deliberate on the implementation modalities and explore collaborative strategies for the effective rollout of the ELI Scheme, the ministry said in a statement."Labour and industry are two sides of the same coin...both must work in close coordination for the greater good of the nation's workforce and economy," he stated.He assured participants that procedural formalities under the scheme have been kept simple to ensure ease of access and encourage wide participation.The ELI scheme represents the second step after the PLI plan in the direction of building an Atmanirbhar Bharat, the minister said, adding that the ELI scheme will provide financial support to employers, enabling them to generate additional employment, particularly for the youth.Mandaviya cited KLEMS data published by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), highlighting that over 17 crore employment opportunities were generated during the last decade.This, he noted, is a reflection of the significant economic progress made by the country, particularly driven by robust growth in sectors like construction, manufacturing, and services.He emphasised that this momentum must be sustained and further accelerated through schemes like ELI, which are designed to create quality jobs, deepen formalisation, and support inclusive development.

The Mangaluru and Bengaluru line is one of the most important intra-state corridors in Karnataka, connecting the coastal city of Mangaluru with the state capital. The route sees consistently high passenger demand from students, working professionals, tourists, and traders alike. Currently, only a handful of overnight trains serve the busy route, and they are often fully booked well in advance. A Vande Bharat sleeper service would offer faster, safer, and more comfortable overnight travel, significantly improving connectivity and passenger experience, he said. He appealed to the minister to include the Mangaluru-Bengaluru route among the priority corridors for the Vande Bharat sleeper express and direct the concerned officials to explore the operational and technical feasibility of the same. He discussed key rail infrastructure projects of the region, including the Hassan-Mangalore Railway Line Electrification, after which they look forward to a Mangaluru - Bengaluru Vande Bharat sleeper train.

Centre flags misuse of agriculture urea in AP
Vijayawada: The Union Govt has raised serious concerns over the rising use of agriculture-grade urea in several states, including Andhra Pradesh, amid suspicions of diversion for non-agricultural and industrial purposes. Responding to directives from the Union agriculture secretary and cabinet secretary, the Andhra Pradesh agriculture department is preparing to issue strict guidelines to curb misuse. Director of agriculture Dilli Rao said the Centre observed a sharp increase in urea usage during the current Kharif season — 3.88 lakh metric tonnes compared to 3 lakh metric tonnes last year — an excess of 88,000 metric tonnes. Urea, intended solely for crop cultivation, is reportedly being diverted for use in industries such as plywood, varnish, paint, AdBlue solution, beer, illicit liquor manufacturing, aquaculture, poultry and animal feed. Some of it is allegedly smuggled across borders into neighbouring states. In Andhra Pradesh, several districts — including NTR, Eluru, Palnadu, Kurnool, Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai, Chittoor, Tirupati, ASR, Manyam, Visakhapatnam, and Srikakulam — share borders with Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh, raising the risk of cross-border transportation. A high-level meeting, led by the chief secretary, will soon finalise enforcement strategies. Coordination with the transport department is also being planned to monitor movement across state lines. Dilli Rao added that district-level meetings will follow, involving district collectors, joint collectors and industrial stakeholders. Sales data will be scrutinised to identify unusual buying patterns.
