Samra Michael wears many hats … And you can be sure that no matter which one she's sporting, she's doing so with style. Known for both books and looks, Samra is one-half of the dynamic duo behind She Well Read, a podcast and online book club. She's also behind Xdressin, an online shop offering vintage and upcycled pieces. Most recently, she launched Samra, the Curator, a boutique marketing agency to help celebrate her love for Birmingham and local creatives.
We caught up with Samra to hear how her many passions align, her favorite places in Birmingham, and more!

What inspired you to start your marketing agency, and what sets it apart?
I started it because I noticed the lack of diversity in advertising. I got my degree in marketing at UAB in 2019. Since then, I've worked on world-class, international brands and in agencies. I noticed the system wasn't necessarily set up for minorities to thrive, and I was working with clients who weren't local.
I've always lived in Birmingham, and I feel extremely passionate about planting my roots here. So, I wanted to take all my marketing knowledge (gathered working for companies in Oregon, Texas, and other places) and really invest it in Birmingham.
A lot of young people graduate and then leave for better opportunities. What sets me apart is the network I've built … I've been lucky enough to work with so many creative people here that I know there's talent in Birmingham, and I don't need to look elsewhere for creatives.
Tell us more about your second-hand online store Xdressin.
Xdressin started out of the need for my passion for fashion to be expressed in some way. Going into college, before I settled on marketing, I thought about working in retail as a buyer … But after learning about the fashion industry, I realized that my morals didn't align with how the industry is run.
So I started to learn more about sustainable fashion (what it was called then). Now, we've moved on to calling it 'circular fashion.' Ultimately, I just wanted to fight injustice in the fashion industry. So, I started reselling clothes. I've always collected clothes with a focus on upcycling, which is working with a piece that has been gently used and bringing new life to it. I thought that was one way to be a part of the industry without creating more waste.

What's something you wish more people understood about sustainable or circular fashion?
It doesn't have to break the bank. If your budget allows, it is fantastic to support small-batch fashion designers. But the price is sometimes out of my budget. I'm just a regular girl in her 20s. So, for me, it's all about thrifting and finding interesting ways to get more life out of my clothes.
I think looking at it as more of a lifestyle change is really important because sometimes we have these moments where we're like, 'I need to change everything in my closet.' Our culture encourages that — a 'rebrand' or jumping on board a new trend. But try not to purchase things. Live with what you have and challenge yourself to re-wear things.
What inspired your podcast and book club, She Well Read?
First of all, we were trying to get back into reading. And second of all, we wanted community. Alana Baumann and I were both very active in school and had been a part of so many organizations. That loss of community we had on campus made us feel like all we did was get up and go to work every day. We needed something else.
We want to encourage a love for reading in everybody, even people who don't necessarily see themselves as readers. We'd like to encourage everybody to read whatever is available to them. We also like to speak to Black women to encourage them to be well-read, know what's going on, and support each other.
Pin
How do you see your love for reading, fashion, and marketing intersecting?
In each of the businesses, I'm coming from a place of 'I don't see myself represented here.'
With She Well Read, we try to raise awareness about injustice. We stopped a whole season of our podcast to focus on George Floyd. One of the things I'm most proud of doing is book drives to support a youth detention center. We've posted on our Instagram about Adriana Smith and issues of reproductive justice in the South. And one of the first things Xdressin did was upcycle T-shirts to donate money to Black Lives Matter.
With Samra, the Curator, my indie marketing agency, I really want to give credit to Black creators and creatives who aren't often tapped by other agencies.
Who is inspiring you right now?
An artist named Aminé just dropped an album called 13 Months of Sunshine, and I have had it on repeat. As an East African, I always look out for other East African artists, and he's been around for quite some time. I've always respected him, but I think he really tapped into something authentic on this album.
Pin
What do you like to do when you're not working?
Rest. That looks different at different times. It may be meditation. It may be sitting on my porch. It may be taking a walk, exercising, or sweating. It may not seem like resting, but it allows my mind to rest.
What are some of your favorite places in Birmingham?
For food, I love Trattoria Zaza and Automatic Seafood. For coffee, I love Grounds and Honest Coffee in Homewood. And when I want to enjoy nature, I like the Vulcan Trail.
What's the best advice you have to offer?
Don't make yourself small to make others comfortable.
Name three things you can't live without.
Coffee, gardening, and music.
Lightning Round!
Last great book you read: Nothing Personal by James Baldwin
Bucket list travel destinations: I've never been to where my parents were born, so I would love to see Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Also, Europe, as a whole, and Tokyo, Japan.
Go-to birthday gift to give: A Village Apothecary candle

Should Your Portfolio Include PINS Stock Post Modest Q2 Results?

Pinterest, Inc. PINS reported modest second-quarter 2025 results, wherein the bottom line missed the Zacks Consensus Estimate while revenues beat the same. The San Francisco-based Internet content provider reported revenue growth year over year, driven by strong momentum in all regions. Management's focus on improving shoppability and monetization potential across the platform and the incorporation of advanced AI-integrated tools to support advertisers and retailers led to top-line growth. PINS Rides on Unique Content Buoyed by greater user engagement, Pinterest has created a niche in the digital market platform. It primarily caters to the 'discovery' mindset of people who turn to the platform to get more information on various subjects like weddings, fashion or fitness, but are not necessarily looking for a specific item. They are there to discover or be inspired, which presents an appealing opportunity to advertisers, as users are often very open to purchasing. Pinterest is increasingly establishing a unique value proposition to advertisers that could provide a competitive advantage in the long run. Through various innovations, it continues to improve the advertising platform, which appears to be one of the best ad platforms for consumer discretionary brands looking for new ways to reach customers and stretch smaller ad budgets. Pinterest's Verified Merchants Program allows brands to create a catalog of shoppable products on the app and use special retargeting capabilities in their ads. In addition, Pinterest is taking various initiatives to bring more actionable content on the platform from a wide range of sources such as users, creators, publishers and retailers. This has resulted in a solid improvement in engagement metrics like sessions, impressions and saves across all regions. Healthy traction in emerging verticals like men's fashion, auto, health and travel are tailwinds. Holistic Growth Buoys PINS The company's focus on improving operational rigor and the incorporation of sophisticated AI (artificial intelligence) models to enhance relevancy and personalization is likely to bring long-term benefits. Pinterest is also emphasizing building new ad tools and formats to help grow the scope of monetization on the platform. This will enable advertisers to measure the results and conversion rates, which will improve their decision-making. It has partnered with Inc. AMZN to further capitalize on the commercial intent of its user base and increase shoppability on its platform. The buyout of the AI-powered, high-tech fashion-shopping platform, The Yes, has enabled it to create a strategic organization to help steer the evolution of its features and merchants. Pinterest and The Yes share a common vision of making it easy for customers to find products matching their tastes and styles. The combined company has been making continuous efforts to absorb creators publishing videos and live streams to make the shopping experience swift and easy for customers. High Operating Costs Weigh on PINS Margins Despite healthy growth potential, Pinterest expects operating expenses to increase substantially in the near term as it expands operations domestically and internationally, enhancing product offerings, broadening user and advertiser base, expanding marketing channels, hiring additional employees and developing technology. Increased infrastructure spending related to user and engagement growth is likely to result in higher cost of revenues. Moreover, growing investments in data center infrastructure, sales & marketing and research & development continue to strain margins. In addition, Pinterest faces significant competition from larger, more established companies that provide their users with a variety of online products, services, content (including video) and advertising offerings, including web search engines, social networks and other means of discovering, using or acquiring goods and services. PINS also faces competition from smaller firms, which offer users engaging content and commerce opportunities through similar technology, products and features or services. Price Performance Pinterest has gained 17% over the past year compared with the industry 's growth of 43.5%. It has outperformed its peers like Snap Inc. SNAP but lagged Meta Platforms, Inc. META over this period. While Meta has surged 49.5%, Snap has declined 21.2% during this period. One-Year PINS Stock Price Performance Image Source: Zacks Investment Research Estimate Revision Trend for PINS Earnings estimates for Pinterest for 2025 have increased marginally to $1.81 over the past seven days, while the same for 2026 has remained static. The positive estimate revisions depict that investors are bullish about the stock's growth prospects. End Note Pinterest is witnessing solid net sales growth backed by strong user engagement across all regions. Enhancements in shopping ads and API for conversions are providing a sustained return on investment to advertisers. Through third-party ad integration with Google, Pinterest aims to introduce monetization opportunities in several unmonetized international markets. The uptrend in estimate revisions further signifies bullish sentiments for the stock. However, increasing competition from other video-centric consumer apps is likely to adversely impact user engagement to some extent. High operating expenses to expand operations and incorporate the latest technological innovations are expected to dent its profitability. With a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold), Pinterest appears to be treading in the middle of the road and investors could be better off if they trade with caution. Horses, Family Dogs & Climbing Ivy Charmed Guests at This AL Wedding

Of course, every bride and groom deserves a moment to shine on their wedding day. At this stunning outdoor ceremony just outside Birmingham, however, the animals in attendance simply couldn't help but turn heads. From graceful horses making surprise cameos to the couple's adorable dogs standing proud during the ceremony, these wedding photos will melt your heart! Pin Alex and Tera matched on Bumble in 2019, but back then, dating apps weren't quite as mainstream as they are now. Not wanting to make it a conversation piece among family and friends, they went with an alibi when asked how they met. 'For the longest time, we told people we met at a Birmingham Barons game on a Thirsty Thursday. If you know, you know,' Tera tells us. When it came time to propose, Alex decided to pop the question on a trip to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. The couple was vacationing with Tera's brother and his now-fiancée, who also happens to be Tera's best friend. Alex knew it would be the perfect opportunity for a stunning sunset proposal with those closest to Tera by her side. With the help of Stefany Keisler of Creating Moments Wedding and Events, the couple invited 100 guests to the gorgeous Windwood Equestrian estate in Pelham for the ceremony and reception. 'I knew I wanted an outdoor wedding, and the venue is stunning — elegant, European vibes, exactly what I envisioned,' Tera says. Pin Pin Alex and Tera knew their dogs would be part of the big day. 'They're basically our children, so it was a no-brainer,' Tera says. 'They walked down the aisle with the wedding party and somehow managed to stay up there the whole ceremony.' Tera says the color scheme for the day came from a lifelong love of blue hydrangeas … along with hours spent on Pinterest. With light blue and white as her primary colors, her bridesmaids' dresses added a bright pop of yellow. 'My bridesmaids' dresses were inspired by the iconic yellow dress from How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,' Tera says. When asked about her own dress, Tera laughs as she explains, 'It was everything I thought I didn't want.' The strapless, A-line silhouette with a high slit and long, dramatic train had not been on her vision board when she tried it on at The Something Blue Shoppe in Hartselle, AL. 'I went in thinking I wanted something sleek, simple, and form-fitting,' Tera says, 'but when I put it on, it just felt right. It was timeless, traditional, and felt like a true wedding dress.' Tera and Alex did a few things their own way during the ceremony, including public and private vows. 'We did private vows to each other before the ceremony, then during the ceremony we mixed in some traditional vows with a few personal touches,' Tera explains. However, the vows didn't exactly go as planned. 'I forgot to transfer my vows from my phone to a cute notebook, so I ended up scribbling them on a sheet of paper while getting my hair and makeup done,' Tera recalls, 'Meanwhile, my husband had his perfectly written in a little book.' Luckily, the ceremony concluded just before a rain shower moved in. Guests enjoyed a cocktail hour with passed hors d'oeuvres in Windwood's chic stables. A grand charcuterie board offered artisan breads, imported cheeses, antipasto, and fresh fruit, plus a Swiss cheese and bacon-stuffed pastry and heirloom tomato bruschetta. Dinner was buffet-style and included all the Southern staples: smoked brisket, BBQ chicken, mac and cheese, baked beans, potatoes au gratin, cornbread, and salad. For dessert, banana pudding shooters and peach cobbler were served. When the bride and groom walked out for their first dance as husband and wife, they were thrown a bit of a curveball. 'Our first dance was to I Don't Want to Miss a Thing by Aerosmith, but the band played the wrong version,' Tera recalls, 'so we completely winged it!' The wedding cake was simple, beautiful vanilla buttercream. Thanks to a creative touch, you might never guess it was delivered with a bright green top instead of the pale blue they'd intended! 'My mom cut it off the morning of, and we just stuck flowers on top!' Tera says. The couple made their exit as guests popped streamers for a fun send-off. But the party was just getting started. 'We hopped on a party bus with our bridal party and their plus-ones to head back to Birmingham and keep the celebration going,' Tera says. She recalls the after-party as one of the day's highlights, saying, 'I think it was because all the stress was gone. The wedding and reception were incredible, but that moment of singing and dancing with all our best friends felt so carefree and fun — it was just pure celebration.' Even with a wedding planner, Tera says the time commitment of planning a wedding was way more than she expected, saying, 'The amount of tiny details to think about was insane.' Still, she says it's true what they say – it really is the fastest day of your life. Her advice: 'Be truly present. Don't spend hair and makeup time stressing about the ceremony, or the cocktail hour, or thinking about the reception. Enjoy each part of the day as it comes.'
