180-year-old Battersea pub to reopen after being abandoned during Covid lockdown

Yahoo27-02-2025
A Battersea pub that's been abandoned since the Covid lockdown is set to be transformed into a Czech-style taproom. The Queen's Arms, on St Philip Street, has been taken over by Bohem Brewery, an independent chain specialising in dark lagers and malty pilsners.
This marks the fourth venture from co-founders Petr Skocek and Zdenek Kudr since launching their business in 2017. The pair currently operate their namesake Bohem Tap Room in Bowes Park and The Nicholas Nickleby in Finsbury Park, as well as a warehouse brewery in Tottenham.
If these venues are anything to go by, punters can expect live music, pub games, and snacks. However, it's likely the made over Queen's Arms will also boast traditional sideways-pouring taps and a chladici vana, a cooler bath that keeps glasses cold and wet, as dictated by Czech serving customs.

In an online statement, the Bohem Brewery team said: "After opening the Nicholas Nickleby just 8 months ago, we found immense success and resounding support for not only our fabulous beer but also our brewery and what we stand to do for the beer world. Because of this, we're delighted to announce that Bohem Brewery has signed a lease on our third tap room: the Queens Arms in Battersea.
It'll take us a few (short) months to be up and running, but we look forward to raising a glass of authentic Czech style beer with friends old and new."
This will be the first time The Queen's Arms, which dates back to Queen Victoria's reign, will be occupied in almost five years. It shut in March 2017 after reportedly going bust before briefly reopening for a few months in 2020.
Chef Tarell McIntosh later announced his intention to turn the historic venue into a community-funded social enterprise in mid-2023 but these plans now appear to have been shelved.

Swifties Defend Taylor Swift's Controversial Album Art

Taylor Swift revealed the artwork for her upcoming album, The Life of a Showgirl, and some people aren't fans of what they're seeing. On Wednesday, Taylor shared details about her twelfth studio album, including the cover art, tracklist, surprise features, and the release date. "And, baby, that's show business for you," Taylor wrote on her Instagram post, which has amassed over 9 million likes. The album is set to release on Oct. 3 and feature producers Max Martin, Shellback, and Taylor herself — the same team behind some of her biggest hits on 1989 and Reputation. It will include 12 tracks, with a special collaboration from Sabrina Carpenter, who also opened for Taylor during her Eras Tour. Here's the official tracklist:1. "The Fate of Ophelia"2. "Elizabeth Taylor"3. "Opalite"4. "Father Figure"5. "Eldest Daughter"6. "Ruin the Friendship"7. "Actually Romantic"8. "Wi$h Li$t"9. "Wood"10. "CANCELLED!"11. "Honey"12. "The Life of a Showgirl (Feat. Sabrina Carpenter)" And while we don't know what the songs are about just yet, that hasn't stopped fans from theorizing about the meaning behind them — and, I have to admit, the theories are really good. Taylor has been through a lot since her Eras tour, from new love to possible friendship breakups, so it will be interesting to see what gets addressed. In fact, Taylor shed some light on The Life of a Showgirl while appearing alongside her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, on the New Heights podcast, which he cohosts with his brother, Jason Kelce. During the 2-hour long conversation, she shared a ton of behind-the-scenes details about herself, their relationship, and, of course, her music. Despite the comments being turned off on her Instagram, fans found other outlets to express their excitement, including X (better known as Twitter): "Taylor teaming up with Max Martin and Shellback again? This is about to be a pop masterpiece for the ages." "SO PROUD OF YOU SHOWGIRL!!!!!" "And suddenly I'm off work that day." "So so so excited for this new era! Thank you for sharing your words and your feelings with us !!!" "NEW TAYLOR ALBUM LET'S GOOO." But along with the love she was being showered with, there also came backlash. Some people weren't impressed by the way Taylor was dressed in her various shots for her album, with one commenter even claiming that the multi-Grammy winner is "not a model I want my young daughter to idolize anymore." Others believed she was trying to mimic other popular artists like Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, and more with her showgirl outfits: But the reactions didn't stop there: Fans on Reddit were not feeling the criticism and called out the pressure parents place on celebrities to "help raise" their children, and the hypocrisy women go through as they're expected to mature in their work but not in their looks. I'm going to have to side with the positive comments here. Women, let alone female celebrities, should be allowed to experiment and grow with their art. Expecting artists to look the same and produce the same art over and over again is unrealistic and unfair. Taylor has always been open about the various stages she's going through in life, and this is no different. Whether you love her, hate her, or hate to love her, Taylor will always find a way to get the people talking!

Trey Anastasio announces 3 NYC Beacon Theatre shows. Get tickets today

Vivid Seats is the New York Post's official ticketing partner. We may receive revenue from this partnership for sharing this content and/or when you make a purchase. Featured pricing is subject to change. In fall 2020, Trey Anastasio was performing live when virtually no one else was. Rather than sit out due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Phish frontman headlined eight 'Beacon Jams 2020' concerts at NYC's Beacon Theatre for an audience of zero. The shows were live-streamed for his adoring Phans and raised 'more than $1.2 million to establish the Divided Sky Residential Recovery Program,' according to Jam Bands. Five years removed from the now historic act, the jam band pioneer is headed back to the Upper West Side for three more shows at the Beacon Theatre on Friday, Nov. 28, Saturday, Nov. 29 and Sunday, Nov. 30. 'The performances will feature a range of formats, including Trey Anastasio Band and the return of The Rescue Squad Strings,' Anastasio shared via Instagram. 'Proceeds from the shows will benefit the the Divided Sky Residential Recovery Program.' At the final 'Beacon Jams' show on Nov. 27, 2020, the singer-guitarist performed 19 songs, according to Set List FM. That included Phish songs like 'Carini,' 'Love Is What We Are,' 'Pebbles and Marbles,' 'Fast Enough For You' and 'First Tube.' According to Anastasio, 'The Beacon Jams shows were the most artistically satisfying thing I've ever worked on. They meant so much to everyone involved–not just the audience, but the musicians as well. Everyone was hungry for music and connection, and somehow we found a way to create community in the middle of such a messed-up, isolating moment. Even the name felt meaningful–like we were shining a searchlight into the fog and manifesting something positive out of something so negative.' Prior to the Beacon run, Phish will perform at festivals, amphitheaters and coliseums all over North America from Sept. 12-21. Fans Phans can purchase tickets for all upcoming Trey Anastasio shows on sites like Vivid Seats; the official on-sale for the November Beacon Theatre residency is Friday, Aug. 15. Vivid Seats is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand. They have a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and will be delivered before the event. 'Just a Touch' 02.) 'Carini' (Phish song) 03.) 'Mozambique' 04.) 'Burn That Bridge' 05.) 'Cayman Review' 06.) 'Speak to Me' 07.) 'Love Is What We Are' (Phish song) 08.) 'First Tube' (Phish song) 19.) 'March Party' Trey Anastasio new music On Sept. 20, 2024, Anastasio dropped 'Atriums.' Comprised of six tracks — all of which are anywhere from 14 to 16 minutes long — the record is a spacey, experimental trip, allowing the freewheeling Big Red to noodle, mess around and fiddle finding lush, feedback-heavy soundscapes along the way. To dive deep into the trippy and sometimes foreboding offering, you can find the expansive, mind-altering 'Atriums' here. More recently, Trey collaborated with Guerilla Toss and Pavement frontman Stephen Malkmus on the angsty single 'Red Flag to Angry Bull.' Huge jam bands on tour in 2025 While Trey might be the face of unpredictable live rock and roll, many other artists who promise 'no two set lists are the same' will be on the road these next few months. Livvy Dunne agrees with Taylor Swift's take on male sports fans

From one WAG to another. Olivia 'Livvy' Dunne was tuned into Taylor Swift's internet-breaking appearance on the 'New Heights' podcast Wednesday — and the retired NCAA gymnast specifically enjoyed the part where the singer trolled male sports fans for complaining she's given too much TV time during Chiefs games. 'As we all know, you guys have a lot of male sports fans that listen to your podcast,' said Swift, 35, who began dating Chiefs' All-pro tight end Travis Kelce in the summer of 2023. Dunne, who retired in April after the LSU gymnastics team did not advance to the national championship finals, has spoken publicly about negative attention she's received from fans. Taking to her TikTok on Tuesday, Dunne called out fans for flooding her social media accounts with Gifs and comments about Skenes. Advertisement 4 Olivia Dunne and Paul Skenes. 'It took me a while to be a pro at it,' Kelce, 35, said. 'The last thing I wanted to do was screw this up.' The three-time Super Bowl winner added that Swift was 'so real' about helping him navigate the attention that her world brings.
