An Intrinsic Calculation For Frequentis AG (ETR:FQT) Suggests It's 42% Undervalued

Yahoo30-05-2025
Frequentis' estimated fair value is €81.33 based on 2 Stage Free Cash Flow to Equity
Frequentis is estimated to be 42% undervalued based on current share price of €47.10
Analyst price target for FQT is €45.55 which is 44% below our fair value estimate
Today we will run through one way of estimating the intrinsic value of Frequentis AG (ETR:FQT) by taking the expected future cash flows and discounting them to their present value. Our analysis will employ the Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) model. Don't get put off by the jargon, the math behind it is actually quite straightforward.
We generally believe that a company's value is the present value of all of the cash it will generate in the future. However, a DCF is just one valuation metric among many, and it is not without flaws. Anyone interested in learning a bit more about intrinsic value should have a read of the Simply Wall St analysis model.
AI is about to change healthcare. These 20 stocks are working on everything from early diagnostics to drug discovery. The best part - they are all under $10bn in marketcap - there is still time to get in early.
We use what is known as a 2-stage model, which simply means we have two different periods of growth rates for the company's cash flows. Generally the first stage is higher growth, and the second stage is a lower growth phase. To start off with, we need to estimate the next ten years of cash flows. Where possible we use analyst estimates, but when these aren't available we extrapolate the previous free cash flow (FCF) from the last estimate or reported value. We assume companies with shrinking free cash flow will slow their rate of shrinkage, and that companies with growing free cash flow will see their growth rate slow, over this period. We do this to reflect that growth tends to slow more in the early years than it does in later years.
A DCF is all about the idea that a dollar in the future is less valuable than a dollar today, so we need to discount the sum of these future cash flows to arrive at a present value estimate:

("Est" = FCF growth rate estimated by Simply Wall St)Present Value of 10-year Cash Flow (PVCF) = €337m
The second stage is also known as Terminal Value, this is the business's cash flow after the first stage. The Gordon Growth formula is used to calculate Terminal Value at a future annual growth rate equal to the 5-year average of the 10-year government bond yield of 1.3%. We discount the terminal cash flows to today's value at a cost of equity of 5.9%.
Terminal Value (TV)= FCF2034 × (1 + g) ÷ (r – g) = €60m× (1 + 1.3%) ÷ (5.9%– 1.3%) = €1.3b
Present Value of Terminal Value (PVTV)= TV / (1 + r)10= €1.3b÷ ( 1 + 5.9%)10= €743m
The total value is the sum of cash flows for the next ten years plus the discounted terminal value, which results in the Total Equity Value, which in this case is €1.1b. In the final step we divide the equity value by the number of shares outstanding. Compared to the current share price of €47.1, the company appears quite undervalued at a 42% discount to where the stock price trades currently. The assumptions in any calculation have a big impact on the valuation, so it is better to view this as a rough estimate, not precise down to the last cent.
The calculation above is very dependent on two assumptions. The first is the discount rate and the other is the cash flows. You don't have to agree with these inputs, I recommend redoing the calculations yourself and playing with them. The DCF also does not consider the possible cyclicality of an industry, or a company's future capital requirements, so it does not give a full picture of a company's potential performance. Given that we are looking at Frequentis as potential shareholders, the cost of equity is used as the discount rate, rather than the cost of capital (or weighted average cost of capital, WACC) which accounts for debt. In this calculation we've used 5.9%, which is based on a levered beta of 0.954. Beta is a measure of a stock's volatility, compared to the market as a whole. We get our beta from the industry average beta of globally comparable companies, with an imposed limit between 0.8 and 2.0, which is a reasonable range for a stable business.

Whilst important, the DCF calculation is only one of many factors that you need to assess for a company. The DCF model is not a perfect stock valuation tool. Instead the best use for a DCF model is to test certain assumptions and theories to see if they would lead to the company being undervalued or overvalued. For example, changes in the company's cost of equity or the risk free rate can significantly impact the valuation. Why is the intrinsic value higher than the current share price? Pfizer (PFE) Reports Promising Phase 3 Results For Bladder Cancer Treatment Combination

Pfizer recently announced positive topline results from the Phase 3 EV-303 clinical trial, showcasing promising outcomes for PADCEV in treating muscle-invasive bladder cancer. Over the last quarter, Pfizer's stock saw an 11% rise, with these results potentially adding weight to this performance. The company also reached milestones in other research and development areas and maintained strong profitability, exemplified by a net income leap in its Q2 2025 earnings. Despite broader market trends pushing the S&P 500 and Nasdaq to record highs, Pfizer's product developments remain key contributors to its recent market position. We've spotted 2 warning signs for Pfizer you should be aware of. Rare earth metals are an input to most high-tech devices, military and defence systems and electric vehicles. The global race is on to secure supply of these critical minerals. Beat the pack to uncover the 27 best rare earth metal stocks of the very few that mine this essential strategic resource. The recent results from Pfizer's Phase 3 EV-303 trial offer promising insights for the company's oncology portfolio, potentially enhancing future revenue streams. Despite this positive development, Pfizer's shares experienced an 8.56% decline over the past year, reflecting challenges beyond short-term gains. In the broader context, Pfizer outperformed the US Pharmaceuticals industry, which saw a 16.1% decline over the same period, although it underperformed the overall US market, which returned 19.6%. The recent 11% rise in Pfizer's stock in the last quarter provides a contrast to the longer-term decline, suggesting a potential shift in investor sentiment influenced by recent successes in clinical trials. Analysts' consensus price target of approximately $28.86 suggests room for upside from the current share price of $24.65. However, projections must factor in the ongoing challenges of regulatory pressures and upcoming patent expirations, which may impact revenue and earnings forecasts. As the company continues to navigate these hurdles, the sustained advancement of its R&D initiatives remains a critical component in striving to achieve the forecasted revenue and earnings growth. Our comprehensive valuation report raises the possibility that Pfizer is priced lower than what may be justified by its financials. This article by Simply Wall St is general in nature.
