Gold, silver prices decline amid global tariff uncertainty

Hans India15-07-2025
New Delhi: The gold and silver prices declined on Tuesday after having an upward rally for the past two days, amid escalating uncertainties around the US tariffs.
The price of 24-carat gold dropped by over Rs 300, according to the India Bullion Jewellers Association (IBJA). Ten grams of 24-carat gold cost Rs 387 less, from Rs 98,303 to Rs 97,916.
The price of 10 grams of 22-carat gold also decreased, going from Rs 90,045 to Rs 89,691, a decrease of Rs 354. Additionally, the price of 18-carat gold fell, from Rs 73,727 to Rs 73,437 during the previous trading session, a decrease of Rs 290.
'Continued tariff escalations by the US on global partners have kept uncertainty high, supporting safe-haven buying in gold, said Jateen Trivedi from LKP Securities.
The price of silver also saw a sharp decline. Silver's price dropped from Rs 1,13,867 to Rs 1,11,997 per kilogram, a decrease of Rs 1,870.
The futures market received conflicting signals despite the spot market's price decline. Gold futures with an expiration date of August 5, 2025, increased by 0.04 per cent to Rs 97,815 on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX).
On the other hand, silver futures with an expiration date of September 5 fell 0.29 per cent to Rs 1,12,611.
On a global scale, the market witnessed divergent patterns. Silver prices dropped 0.38 per cent to $38.59 per ounce on the Comex, while gold prices increased 0.21 per cent to $3,366.20 per ounce.
'Gold prices stayed in a narrow range of Rs 97,750–Rs 98,050 as Comex gold traded positive near $3,365 with a $20 rise,' Trivedi said.
With US CPI data scheduled this week, traders remain cautious. Overall, gold is expected to remain volatile within the Rs 97,500–Rs 98,500 range, the analyst stated.
Despite mixed movements in futures and international markets, Tuesday's trading session provided some respite for buyers seeking a chance to buy precious metals at a reduced price.

Bengaluru: The Enforcement Directorate's Bengaluru Zonal Office has filed a complaint against One Sigma Technologies Pvt Ltd (SIMPL) and its Director Nitya Nand Sharma for contravention of the Foreign Exchange Management Act to the tune of Rs 913 crore (Rs 913,75,88,062), an official statement said on Wednesday. The enquiries in the matter were initiated on the basis of credible information that SIMPL has received a substantial amount of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) from the US, allegedly in violation of the extant FDI policy, the ED statement said. The ED investigation under the provisions of the FEMA revealed that the firm runs its business through mobile application named SIMPL. It provides Buy Now Pay Later services which allowed its customer to buy now and pay later in instalments, the ED said. Further, it was learnt that One Sigma Technologies Pvt Ltd received FDI to the tune of Rs 648,87,76,480 and issued Convertible Notes to the tune of Rs 264,88,11,582 under the 100 per cent automatic route by declaring its business activity as "Benefits of Information Technology and other computer service activities", the ED said. "During the course of investigation under FEMA, 1999, the business model and revenue generation model of M/s One Sigma Technologies Pvt Ltd were examined, and the same revealed that M/s One Sigma Technologies Pvt Ltd is into the business activities which fall under financial activities." "However, as per circular, dated October 20, 2016, issued by the RBI, FDI in financial activities not regulated by any authority is to be brought under the 100 per cent approval route. Further, in activity where government approval is necessary for receiving FDI, any startup company can issue convertible notes only with the approval of the government of India. However, M/s One Sigma Technologies Pvt Ltd has issued convertible notes without obtaining any approval from the government of India," the ED said. "M/s One Sigma Technologies Pvt Ltd (SIMPL) has received FDI under automatic route and issued convertible notes under automatic route without obtaining prior approval from the government of India and thereby contravened the provisions of FEMA, 1999, collectively to the tune of Rs 913,75,88,062 and rendered itself liable to be proceeded under section 13 of FEMA, 1999." "In view of the above, a complaint under section 16 (3) of FEMA, 1999 is filed before the Adjudicating Authority under FEMA," the ED added.

The ABCs Of Financial Fitness: Simple Steps For Money Health

Last Updated: The ABCs of Financial Fitness breaks down money basics into simple, practical steps anyone can follow. Just like physical health, financial health needs regular attention and good habits. You don't need to be an expert or earn a huge salary to manage your money well. What you do need is the right mindset and a basic understanding of how to handle your finances. That's where the ABCs of Financial Fitness come in—Awareness, Behaviour, Change, and a little Curiosity. Below, we have explained the ABCs of Financial Fitness. A – Awareness Financial fitness starts with awareness—being honest and clear about your money situation. This means understanding: – How much do you earn – How much do you spend – What you owe – What you own (savings, investments, assets) It is about knowing where your money goes and recognising the patterns in your financial life. Without awareness, it is easy to fall into debt or overspend without realising the impact. Awareness helps you take control, plan, and make informed choices. Once you are aware of your financial habits, the next step is understanding your behaviour. This is about how you act with your money. Are you an impulsive spender? Do you delay paying bills? Or do you save regularly and follow a budget? Changing financial outcomes means changing financial behaviour. Recognise your habits—both good and bad—and ask yourself why you make the choices you do. Financial behaviour is often linked to emotions, upbringing, and beliefs about money. Keep this in mind: Set small goals like saving Rs 500 a week or using cash instead of cards to manage spending. C – Change (and Curiosity!) The 'C" in financial fitness stands for Change—and that doesn't happen overnight. Change means replacing harmful money habits with better ones. It could be cutting unnecessary expenses, automating savings, or learning to invest. But change also starts with Curiosity. Ask questions. Learn more about personal finance. Read, watch videos, or talk to experts. The more curious you are, the more confident you will become. Something to note: Read one personal finance article or book chapter each week. Small knowledge leads to big results over time. The ABCs of Financial Fitness—Awareness, Behaviour, Change, and Curiosity—aren't about being perfect with money. They are about building habits that help you live with less stress and more freedom. Start small, stay curious, and be patient with yourself. Just like physical fitness, financial fitness is a journey—one step at a time. Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive.
