DigiPlus secures spot in Fortune list of fastest-growing firms
The digital entertainment leader moved up more than 259 notches from last year, reflecting sustained growth in its 2024 financial performance.
This also solidified its status as a leading force when it comes to the Philippine gaming and entertainment landscape.
'Being part of Fortune's list is a reflection of the trust we've earned and the impact we deliver,' DigiPlus Chairman Eusebio Tanco said in a press release.
'From building world-class gaming platforms, to pioneering self-exclusion tools, we are shaping a safer, more vibrant digital entertainment industry,' he added.
The ranking marks DigiPlus' second consecutive year on the prestigious list, which names the 500 largest companies in Southeast Asia by revenue.
The sharp climb reflects the company's 'standout 2024 performance,' which was achieved through the help of the ongoing demand for its flagship entertainment platforms BingoPlus, ArenaPlus, and GameZone.
This also showed the firm's successful market expansion and deep commitment to innovation, regulation, and corporate responsibility.
In 2024, the company paid P33.7 billion in taxes and regulatory fees, which funded government programs in public health, education, and infrastructure.
Its platforms also led the way in responsible gaming, with in-app self-exclusion tools that enable players to cap deposits and set gaming time limits.
Meanwhile, DigiPlus is allocating P150 million for social impact initiatives this year through its social development arm, BingoPlus Foundation, for programs in technology education, healthcare, and community resilience. — BAP, GMA Integrated News

Suspended chief says GSIS' billions-worth of investments have yielded gains
Suspended GSIS president Jose Wick Veloso on Monday said that the corporation's billions worth of investments in Alternergy and online gambling firm Digiplus have already yielded gains for the government. GSIS invested P1.4. billion in Alternergy—an investment currently under being investigated by the Ombudsman, and for which Veloso was suspended—and P1 billion in Digiplus, which was made public by Senator Risa Hontiveros in a privilege speech. 'The management is given permission to invest in listed equities in the stock market or bonds or debt instruments at an amount of P1.5 billion. Hindi ho kailangan dumaan sa board [It didn't need to go through the board]," said Veloso of the Alternergy investment in a Super Radyo DZBB interview. "Based on our guidelines, the equity must be listed [in the Philippine Stock Exchange] and what we purchased was preferred share. Naniniwala po kami na sumunod po kami sa reglamento.' (We believe we followed all regulations.) Veloso said that the Alternergy investment had resulted in P117 million in terms of dividends in the first year. 'That is renewable energy investment and its rate of return of investment is 56% within five years,' he said. On Digiplus, Veloso said that the GSIS, upon careful study, took advantage of the low price of Digiplus' stock, and that the company's share has been growing since GSIS invested in 2023. He, however, did not give an exact amount of how much the government gained from this investment. 'The [value] of its stock is just P7, P8 when GSIS started purchasing them. (The government gained from this, really. And every time that the company thrives, we invest more.) 'Then in June [2025], there was a research material that they can be placed under index stocks of the Philippine Stock Exchange, and that its stock prices can rise to P109 due to their expansion in other countries such as Brazil and South Africa. We thought since the price is not that high yet, let's take a chance on investing in this,' Veloso added. Veloso, however, said recent calls for banning online gambling was a volatility that they did not see coming. 'Just one and a half week after [the June research material], the talk on the total ban on online gambling cropped up. Wala naman po sa equation 'yan [when we made the investment]. That's volatility. Because when we invest, we do not invest with a long-term view,' Veloso added. (The possibility of total ban on online gambling was not present when we first made the investment.) Veloso said that the GSIS' investment in Digiplus was a minuscule part of the entire GSIS fund and that the GSIS has been steadily growing since he led the agency in 2022. 'This is just 0.13% of the whole GSIS portfolio. And since I came on board, I was able to add P300 billion [to the GSSIS fund] so it is now up to P1.88 trillion. For the first six months of 2025 alone, we earned P77 billion net,' Veloso said. 'Iyan po ang patunay na totoong intact ang pondo. Kaya kami [ay] naniniwala na ito ay nasa tamang proseso,' Veloso added. (These figures prove that the GSIS fund is intact, and so we believe that these investments are all above board.) — BM, GMA Integrated News

PSE shakes up bellwether: DigiPlus in, Bloomberry out
For the bellwether PSEi, the major change was the inclusion of online betting giant DigiPlus Interactive Corp., replacing casino-resort Solaire's operator Bloomberry Resorts Corp. Local bourse operator Philippine Stock Exchange Inc. on Friday announced changes in the composition of the stock market's indices, including the PSE index (PSEi) —the local stock barometer. In a memorandum dated August 8, 2025, the PSE revealed the results of its regular review of the PSEi, sectoral, PSE Dividend Yield, and PSE MidCap indices covering the trading activity period from July 2024 to June 2025. For the bellwether PSEi, the major change was the inclusion of online betting giant DigiPlus Interactive Corp., replacing casino-resort Solaire's operator Bloomberry Resorts Corp. 'Joining the PSE Index is more than a corporate milestone for us at DigiPlus. It's a powerful statement that homegrown Filipino companies can lead in the digital age," DigiPlus chairman Eusebio Tanco said in a statement. "We've created a new kind of digital entertainment company, one that doesn't just catch up on trends, but pioneers platforms that resonate with real people,' he added. The changes in the composition of the PSEi will take effect on August 18, 2025. To qualify for inclusion in the PSEi, a listed firm should be among the top companies in terms of liquidity and market capitalization. The PSEi is the main index of the PSE, composed of 30 companies, which provides an overview of the stock market's overall health by gauging changes in the share prices of the select listed firms. The local stock market review also resulted in changes in other indices, such as the PSE Dividend Yield and PSE MidCap indices. Now included in the PSE Dividend Yield index were liquor distributor The Keepers Holdings Inc. and Puregold Price Club Inc., replacing restaurant chain Figaro Culinary Group and Gokongwei-led snacks and beverages maker Universal Robina Corp. Added to the PSE MidCap index were Asia United Bank, Bloomberry, OceanaGold (Philippines) Inc., replacing GMA Network Inc., Petron Corp., and DigiPlus. The PSE Dividend Yield index, composed of 20 listed firms, focuses on companies that consistently give high-yielding dividends. Companies in this index are selected based on liquidity and three-year average dividend yield performance. The PSE MidCap index, also composed of 20 companies, is designed to provide a snapshot of the performance of mid-sized companies in the Philippine market. For the sectoral indices —namely Financials, Industrial, Holding Firms, Property, Services, and Mining and Oil— the PSE also announced composition changes. For the Financials index, the local bourse operator said it added National Reinsurance Corp. For the Industrial index, the PSE added Concepcion Industrial Corp., Citicore Renewable Energy Corp., and Vitarich Corp., while removing Basic Energy Corp., EEI Corp., and Max's Group Inc. Added to the Holding Firms index was ATN Holding Inc. No change was effected on the Property index, while the Services index saw the removal of Pacific Online Systems Corp. For the Mining and Oil index, the PSE included Lepanto Consolidated Mining Company and OceanaGold (Philippines). –NB, GMA Integrated News

PH chip makers warn of ‘devastating' impact of Trump's 100% tariff
The Philippines' semiconductor manufacturing sector would be at risk of facing a 'devastating' impact should US President Donald Trump proceed with his plan to slap a 100% tariff on semiconductors entering the United States. '[The] 100% tariff would be devastating,' Semiconductor and Electronics Industries in the Philippines. Inc. (SEIPI) president Dan Lachica told GMA News Online in a Viber message. SEIPI was sought to comment on Trump's announcement that he will impose a 100% tariff on imports of semiconductors, but will exempt companies that are manufacturing in the US or have committed to doing so. 'Seventy percent of Philippine exports are semiconductors. It was $30 billion last year, about $6 billion [was] exported to the US,' Lachica said. Asked if the 'worst-case-scenario' would be that semiconductor exporters would pull out of the country in response to Trump's new trade policy, he said, 'eventually possible.' Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) showed the US was the country's top export destination in 2024, accounting for 16.6% or $12.14 billion of the total export receipts of $73.27 billion. Meanwhile, electronic products were the Philippines' top export, accounting for 53.4% or $39.09 billion of the total. Of this amount, the share of semiconductors to the total was 39.8% or $29.17 billion. Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs (SAPIEA) of the Philippines Frederick Go earlier said that electronics and semiconductors are not covered by Trump's reciprocal tariff directive. GMA News Online reached out to SAPIEA Go's office as well as Trade Secretary Cristina Roque for comment on the recent development, but no response has been received as of posting. Trump's reciprocal tariff policy was intended to target countries that have significant trade imbalances with America. Data from the US Trade Representative showed America's goods trade with the Philippines totaled an estimated $23.5 billion in 2024. Broken down, the US goods exports to Manila stood at $9.3 billion, while its imports amounted to $14.2 billion, resulting in a goods trade deficit with the Philippines of $4.9 billion in 2024, up 21.8% year-on-year. —LDF, GMA Integrated News
