Libyan Italian Forum for Development and Reconstruction to be held in Benghazi from 25 to 26 June
The event is jointly organised by the Libyan Development and Reconstruction Fund, headed by the Hafter family, and the Libyan Italian Chamber of Commerce.
Benghazi Chamber says the forum comes within the framework of strategic partnerships in the development and reconstruction sectors and national efforts aimed at advancing reconstruction and stimulating economic growth by launching this pioneering qualitative initiative represented in organizing the Libyan-Italian Forum for Development and Reconstruction.
The initiative is also a practical embodiment of the Libyan state's orientation towards building effective international partnerships, attracting capital and value-added projects in a way that enhances the path of national reconstruction, and consolidates Libya's presence as an attractive destination for investment in the region.
Benghazi Chamber says this event represents a pivotal milestone in the Libyan-Italian cooperation process, and a unique opportunity to explore investment and partnership prospects in vital sectors, including infrastructure, energy, services, and technology. It highlights Libya as a promising destination regaining its position as an emerging regional hub for development.

Riccardough's Pizza Kitchen to bring a slice of Italian heritage back to Oban
Oban is set to welcome Riccardough's, a new food business with a whole lot of history behind it. And one that promises to serve up a taste of authentic Italian pizza, many locals will remember fondly. Riccardough's Pizza Kitchen, a newly refurbished and eye-catching mobile pizza van, will soon be hitting the streets of Oban and surrounding villages. Behind the venture is 61-year-old Riccardo Pacitti, the son of the late Luigi and Dorina Pacitti, who ran the much-loved Luigi's Pizzeria and chip shop in the town for many years. Luigi's chip shop in Oban was a local institution. Known for its authentic Italian pizza and classic fish and chips, it became a community favourite. For years, locals and visitors alike queued for its fresh flavours and the warm, family-run atmosphere that made it a much-missed part of the town's food scene. The Pacitti family were pioneers of authentic Italian pizza in Oban, introducing freshly made bases and traditional toppings to customers long before the trend took off in Scotland. 'I was working in the chip shop at the time and people just loved it,' said Riccardo. 'We were the first in Oban to serve real, fresh Italian pizza. It's something I've always been proud of.' After leaving the family business, Riccardo spent 22 years working at sea. He returned home to Oban in 2020 due to health reasons and the impact of the Covid pandemic. Since then, he has been looking for a way back into the food trade — but finding a restaurant premises proved difficult. 'I was never thinking about a van,' he said. 'But my daughter Natalie and her partner David encouraged me to give it a go.' Natalie runs a successful beauty business Oro Rosa, in the shop premises her grandparents once owned, and David MacPhee runs a digital marketing company, Digital Minded, and the This is Oban website. 'They've really helped me get this off the ground,' Riccardo said. The result is Riccardough's Pizza Kitchen — a fully renovated pizza van that has been in the works since March and has just received a striking new wrap from Impact Branding. Riccardo grew up steeped in Italian cooking, learning recipes and techniques from his parents. He says Riccardough's will allow him to share that heritage with a new generation of customers. Riccardough's Pizza Kitchen will serve at lunchtimes in Oban town centre near Tesco, before moving on to villages such as Connel, Dunbeg and others in the evenings. The van will also be available for parties, weddings and events, with Riccardo working on a set schedule so people know when and where to find it. As for the menu, Riccardo is keeping his cards close to his chest. 'I'm keeping the recipe and flavours under my chef's hat for now,' he said. 'But let's just say they'll be familiar to anyone who remembers Luigi's Pizzeria.' With the final touches being put in place, Riccardough's Pizza Kitchen is expected to open very soon. MAGGIE PAGANO: We are all paying the price for Labour
Eating cake rather than bread is not an option. Blame my Viking-cum-Italian genes. But there are two household staples that we are never without: tealights and olive oil. My addiction is such that I'm eagle-eyed about hunting down the best prices. But here's the rub. It doesn't seem to matter whether you are shopping for candles at Homebase or B&M, or Waitrose or Tesco for liquid gold – prices are soaring again having fallen back after inflation peaked nearly three years ago. As any regular shopper will tell you, so are the prices of most foods and household products. June's annual food inflation rate was up at 4.5 per cent, the third month in a row that prices rose, and the highest since the beginning of last year. Inflation figures for July out next Wednesday are expected to show further jumps. So it's hardly surprising that 85 per cent of adults surveyed by the Office for National Statistics say that the cost-of-living crisis is the most important issue facing the UK today – ahead even of the NHS. About six in ten adults also report that costs have risen in the last month – that's more people citing price rises than in July last year when Labour took office. This time around, rising prices can't be blamed on either the after-effects of the pandemic, which crippled supply chains around the world, or indeed Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which saw the price of wheat and sunflower oils, as well as energy, rocket into the stratosphere. Today's price rises, however, are mainly home-grown, the direct result of Labour's tax hikes. Prices have further to climb because of the Budget tax rises, as even the Bank of England has admitted. The British Retail Consortium (BRC) has also warned that the full impact of the last Budget has yet to fully filter through to prices. Labour's policies will add £7billion to retailer costs this year, ranging from higher employment costs to the new packaging tax. The BRC also says that if this autumn's Budget attacks retailers again, with its planned higher business rates threshold on 4,000 larger stores, then it will be poorer families which will be hit hardest. At the same time, the UK's farming industry is being whacked on all fronts, threatening the country's food security. The latest smack in the face is Labour's decision not to give any financial aid to the bioethanol industry after President Donald Trump's tariff hike. Smaller farm owners are being devastated by the new inheritance tax rules and are shutting down. Dairy farmers are closing because of higher costs and worker shortages, opening the door to more imports and less competition. Even the price of bread is now in question. The planned merger between ABF's Kingsmill and Hovis is going to be an interesting test for Labour to chew on. Both Kingsmill and Hovis lose money. Together they would lead the market in sliced bread, putting them ahead of sector leader Warburtons. What's Labour to do? On the one hand the Government will want to show its support for business, giving a nod to the Competition and Markets Authority to pass the takeover. But that means big job losses and a potential monopoly position for its breads, the price of which they may be mindful of has so often led historically to riots. Telling people to eat cake is not an option.

The Tripoli based Libyan Prime Minister's plan for financing entrepreneurship and innovation projects and approving their executive programme was discussed during an extensive meeting held at the Prime Minister's Office. The meeting was held in the presence of the head of the Executive Team for the President's Initiatives and Strategic Projects, Mustafa Al-Mana. Programme to be spread to cover target segment in all regions The meeting reviewed the Prime Minister's instructions on the need to horizontally spread the programme to cover the target segment in all regions of the country, and to launch a rehabilitation and training programme for entrepreneurs to transform their ideas into economically feasible and financially sustainable projects. e-entrepreneurship and innovation platform The attendees also discussed the project of the e-entrepreneurship and innovation platform, which will provide entrepreneurs and innovators with a space to register, communicate and benefit from the Entrepreneurship Fund's various services. The meeting was attended by the Director General of the Fund for Supporting and Guaranteeing the Financing of Innovation Companies, the Director of the International Cooperation Department at the Ministry of Oil and Gas, the Director of the Entrepreneurship Office at the Municipality of Tripoli, the Director of the Projects Department at the Municipality, as well as the international expert and trainer in the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Funds, Amer Bin Khayal.
