Daniel Levy urged to make shock Ange Postecoglou U-turn and RE-HIRE Spurs boss in passionate plea from Melbourne mayor

MELBOURNE'S Lord Mayor has urged Tottenham to U-turn on sacking Ange Postecoglou - or risk an ALLERGIC reaction.
Greek-born Postecoglou grew up in the Australian city, later managing South Melbourne and Melbourne Victory as well as the Socceroos.

But despite winning the Europa League - to earn a Champions League spot - Postecoglou was axed by Spurs chairman Daniel Levy last Friday.
And as well as being a hefty blow to his reputation, it's also been a painful hit Down Under.
Postecoglou paid for finishing just one place above the Premier League drop zone.
However, an injury crisis persuaded him to focus more on Tottenham 's European campaign than he might normally have done.
And in the eyes of some fans, that policy was vindicated when Spurs sunk Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League final last month.
Victory in Bilbao ended Tottenham's long wait for silverware since winning the League Cup in 2007-08.
But club supremo Levy has been unhappy with the larger picture.
And after axing Postecoglou less than a week ago, Spurs are already close to naming Brentford chief Thomas Frank as his successor.

However, the Lord Mayor of Melbourne, Nick Reece, has made an unusual intervention - by pleading on Instagram for Levy to have a rethink.
And Reece reckons he speaks for not just his city but also for lovers of the English top flight all around the globe.
The civic bigwig even backed up his message with an amusing medicinal warning... over a possible "allergic reaction".
He said: 'On behalf of the people of Melbourne, and Premier League fans around the world, I call on Tottenham Hotspur FC to reconsider its decision to sack coach Ange Postecoglou.
"In @cityofmelbourne we have followed Ange's career closely for decades.
"He began his junior and senior career in Melbourne as a player and later coach at @southmelbournefc in the 1980s.
"Never underestimate Ange's determination to win, and his ability to carry teams to greatness. We have seen this time again over his career.
"This year Tottenham made history by winning the Europa League trophy - its first such win in 17 years. We will see further trophies follow if Ange is given the chance.
"Don't let Tottenham be known as the team that is allergic to silverware.
"Let Ange lead the players onto greatness in next year's Premier League campaign."
But even having Melbourne's mighty mayoral chains thrown in behind him is unlikely to save Ange.
Instead he is understood to have already been eyed up by rival clubs, although he is in no rush for a new job.

NRL player Matt Allwood who became a TV star suffers horror spinal injury in tackle gone wrong

Former Canberra Raiders and New Zealand Warriors star Matt Allwood is awaiting surgery after suffering a serious spinal injury during a match last Saturday. The 32-year-old - who also starred in the most recent season of Alone Australia on SBS - was badly hurt when he stopped a rival player from scoring a try while playing his first match for the Dora Creek Swampies. The club, which is located on the NSW central coast, has launched an appeal to help the father of three, who is currently unable to work. 'Matt Allwood - a proud father, husband and incredible football player took the field as a Swampie for the first time on Saturday against Waratah,' the club wrote. 'As Matt made an incredible try saving tackle, he unfortunately injured himself, sustaining a very serious spinal injury. 'Matt has an uncertain road to recovery, and is unable to work as he is still awaiting to find out the full extent of his injuries and awaiting surgery, this certainly will put a strain on the young family.' The former Raiders and Warriors player (pictured with his family) was badly hurt while he made a try-saving tackle The Raiders - where Allwood played in 2014 before switching to the Warriors - also directed their fans to the fundraiser on social media. Allwood appeared on Alone Australia earlier this year, with the show challenging Aussies to survive for as long as possible after being dropped off in separate wilderness areas where they are devoid of human contact. He lasted 16 days in the bush in the rugged West Coast Range of Tasmania as he competed against nine others. 'To be honest, I was rattled,' he said after returning to civilisation. 'It was too much being out there on my own away from my family with no contact.' After the show aired, his wife Ainsely posted a heartfelt message to him on Facebook. ''SO BLOODY PROUD OF YOU MATTY!!' she wrote. 'Anyone sitting at home on their couch watching, thinking they could do better, go on. APPLY!! 'Like to see you not eat for 10 days. 'Longest 1st tap out in the history of Alone Australia and 2nd longest tap out in history of the whole Alone Series!' Allwood's upbringing on a NSW cattle farm was great preparation for the show, and his Instagram account is full of videos and photos of him practising his bushcraft. 'Growing up, I didn't watch Bob the Builder - I was out hunting grandpa's rabbits,' he told the Warriors.

Jarome Luai called up by NSW Blues to replace injured Mitch Moses for State of Origin Game 2

Jarome Luai will replace Mitch Moses as NSW's five-eighth for the second State of Origin match after a calf strain dashed Moses's hopes of playing. Moses pulled up sore while running the ball during a training session at NSW's Blue Mountains camp on Thursday, injuring the same calf that troubled him earlier this year. The Blues have sent Moses for scans on the injury that delivers a blow to their hopes of sealing a series victory by winning Origin II in Perth on Wednesday. 'It's terrible, isn't it? Mitch played really well in game one,' said Blues coach Laurie Daley. 'We're unsure of how bad it is but he won't be any good for Wednesday with the short turnaround.' Daley called Luai on Thursday to ask whether he would be available after Moses beat him for selection in NSW's game-one win. Luai, who had just finished on the training paddock at Wests Tigers, answered Daley's distress call to reunite with former NSW halfback Nathan Cleary in the halves. It's the second time in as many years that injury has forced the Blues to turn to a player they initially snubbed, with James Tedesco coming in for Dylan Edwards to play fullback in last year's series opener. 'Luai handled it [the initial rejection] with such class and he said if I needed him, he'd be ready to go,' Daley said. 'So when I rang him, he said, 'Sweet, I'm ready to go'. That filled me with confidence.' Luai played five-eighth in all three games of NSW's 2024 series win and has featured alongside NSW halfback Cleary at Origin level six times already. The pair also won four consecutive NRL premierships together at Penrith before Luai joined the Tigers this season. 'Back playing together, there'd be an energy and a synergy there,' Daley said. '[Luai] played there last year, has got a good combination with Nathan and he's that left-side player. He'll do a fine job.' The NRL has already granted the Blues an exemption to bring Luai into the team from outside the 20-man squad that Daley had named on Tuesday. Luai's call-up means Canterbury five-eighth Matt Burton, considered the other contender to replace Moses, will remain 18th man. Daley defended the call to once again overlook Burton, who will watch from the sidelines as NSW's replacement player for a fifth time in seven Origin games. Burton's ability to cover the outside backs and halves has made him a favoured choice for the emergency role. 'He can play a few more positions. I just think Jarome and Nathan's combination, they've had so much success.' Luai will arrive at the Blues' team hotel in Leura on Thursday afternoon, expected to bring his trademark high energy to a squad reeling from the injury. 'He'll walk in and everyone will feed off his energy,' Daley said. 'I don't think anything fazes Jarome. He's always up for a challenge and the bigger the challenge, the better he goes. He's a guy that thrives in this environment. It's not an issue for him so it shouldn't be an issue for anyone else.'

Shotts boss says 'having a go' worked well as they avoided Premier League drop

John McKeown's side were on a good run of form at the end of the season Shotts boss John McKeown reckons having a go in games worked well for them, and hopes his side continue that form into next season's West of Scotland Premier League. The Hannah Park side ended with 11 points from a possible 18 in their last six games, as they comfortably evaded the bottom three – though Clydebank winning their Lowland League play-off saved four teams from going down. ‌ Now that the dust has settled on their first season in the top flight, McKeown reckons they could have done things differently. ‌ 'We know what to expect, but you have to find your feet,' said McKeown. 'As a coaching and management team, I think we were a wee bit negative in the first half of the season. 'In the second half, we had a wee bit more of a go, and ended up doing quite well. In our last six games we won three, drew two and lost one, and that's good going in this league. 'Fair play to the boys, they deserve all the credit they're going to get, and hopefully they continue that form into next season.' Shotts watched Clydebank's play-off in sponsor's pub The Two Chimneys in Uddingston, and the Bankies' promotion to the Lowland League means McKeown can plan ahead. ‌ He said: 'I had two lists, and now I can concentrate on the Premier League one, rather than the Championship. 'That gives us a better chance to plan, going forward. 'This is our second season in the Premier League and I think that's for the first time in 30 years, or something like that. ‌ 'By hook or by crook, we've stayed there, so fair play to the boys. 'We have a team spirit that I don't think many clubs have, and I think that's what has kept us up.' Having lost Airdrie neighbours Gartcairn to relegation last season, due to a 15-point deduction, one particular fixture stands out to McKeown, who said: 'Glencairn are my local team, I was born in Rutherglen, so that's another wee derby.' ‌ Last week the club announced that a number of players have signed up again for the new season Taylor Evans, Josh Gracie and Paul Byrne have joined Ally Small, Rico De Marco and Jack Gordon in committing to the 2025/26 campaign. A number of players have also departed. Leaving the club are Andrew Duffy, Chris Meikle, Danny Burns and goalkeeper Sandy Thomson. Meanwhile, after getting a bye in the first round, Shotts were drawn against Irvine Victoria in round two of the WoSFL Cup. The date is to be arranged.
