RCB fever grips Bengaluru: Car wrapped in nimbu-mirchi goes viral ahead of IPL 2025 final

Indian Express2 days ago

As Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) prepares for its much-anticipated face-off against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL 2025 final at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium on Tuesday night, fans have taken their hopes—and superstitions—to the next level.
In a video that is now viral on social media, a silver car covered entirely in mirchi (green chillies) and nimbu (lemons) has been spotted on the streets of Bengaluru. These traditional Indian symbols, believed to ward off the nazar (evil eye), have turned the vehicle into a makeshift shrine for RCB's title dreams. Parked in a busy neighbourhood, the car is drawing in crowds, with passersby clicking photos and shooting videos, adding to the electric atmosphere leading up to the final.
The clip, shared by user @mufaddal_vohra on X, has already amassed over 82.6K views. His caption read, 'A car wrapped in nimbu and mirchi spotted in Bangalore to protect RCB from nazar ahead of the IPL Final.'

Social media users had a field day reacting to the bizarre but endearing gesture. One user joked, 'Even science bows to superstition when RCB plays! Will nimbu-mirchi finally break the curse? Can belief boost performance, or is hard work still the real charm?' Another quipped, 'Come on RCB, even the traffic is praying for you now!' And in a cheeky twist, a third remarked, 'Car wrapped in nimbu and mirchi spotted in Bangalore to protect RCB from nazar ahead of the IPL final… but final win PBKS.'
The nimbu-mirchi car is just one of many fan-fuelled efforts to manifest an RCB win. Earlier this week, a video of fans conducting a havan at a temple went viral, while in Nepal, a couple offered prayers for RCB during their wedding ceremony. From devotion to drama, the #RCBArmy is pulling out all the stops.
Adding to the hype, Canadian rapper Drake recently revealed he placed a staggering $750,000 (roughly ₹6.41 crore) bet on RCB to win the title via crypto-betting platform Stake. With odds of 1.75, a win would fetch him more than $1.3 million. Drake captioned his Instagram story with the iconic fan chant 'Ee Sala Cup Namde'—cementing his place among RCB's global believers.
This final could mark a historic moment for either team, as both RCB and PBKS are chasing their first-ever IPL title. While RCB booked their spot in the final with a dominant victory over PBKS in Qualifier 1, both sides are evenly matched, with 18 wins apiece from their 36 encounters.

Karnataka govt to formulate new SOP for mega events, celebrations

Bengaluru, Karnataka government will formulate a new Standard Operating Procedure for mega events, meetings and celebrations aimed at preventing any untoward incidents, state Home Minister G Parameshwara said on Thursday. We will give instructions that from now on any mega events, meetings and celebrations, should be held within the framework of the directions issued by the police department," Parameshwara said. A new SOP will be formulated to ensure that such incidents never happen in the future, he added. "Such deaths shouldn't happen, innocents should not die, looking at the dead bodies it pains of them were youngsters in 20-25 years of age. They came happily to celebrate, they wouldn't have expected to lose their lives. We will take strict measures identifying the lapses," he added. Parameshwara said, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had held a meeting yesterday and has ordered for a megestrial inquiry into the incident under the leadership of Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner. Ponting reacts to Virat Kohli breaking down in tears during last over: 'CSK, MI have won IPL a few times. It's not easy'

Ricky Ponting, head coach of Punjab Kings and one of the most respected voices in world cricket, offered a moving perspective on Virat Kohli's emotional reaction following Royal Challengers Bengaluru's long-awaited IPL title win. The legendary Australian said Kohli's tears were a testament to the emotional and personal toll of chasing the elusive trophy for 18 seasons, and how much it means to players. Kohli, overwhelmed by emotion as RCB sealed a six-run win over Punjab Kings in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Tuesday, dropped to his knees in tears. The image captured the end of a wait that spanned the entire history of the IPL; Kohli is the only player to have represented only one franchise since the first season of the tournament in 2008. "You can see in his eyes in that last over, he was shedding a tear, that's what it means to players, that's what it means to everyone," Ponting told reporters after the final. 'Chennai (Super Kings) have won it a few times, Mumbai (Indians) have won it a few times, but it's not an easy tournament to win — it is as simple as that — and you have to think long and hard about that. It's not easy to win this thing.' Ponting, who has played and won ICC World Cups and led dominant Australian teams across formats, used his own career to back Kohli's honest admission that IPL glory still doesn't match up to the pride of representing one's country in Test cricket. Kohli stated in his post-match reaction that despite the IPL victory being one of the top-most moments of his career, it stands 'five marks below Test cricket.' Ponting echoed Kohli's reverence for the red-ball game. "I'm probably one of the biggest purists of the game still involved. Whether I'm coaching or commentating, my first love is Test match cricket, always will be." 'But I totally understand what he means... this is as close as I can get to playing a Test match again.'

Yograj Singh reacts to Punjab Kings' defeat in IPL final against RCB

Punjab Kings during the IPL final in Ahmedabad. (ANI Photo) NEW DELHI: Former India cricketer Yograj Singh launched a scathing attack on Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer for his reckless dismissal in the IPL 2025 final, terming it a 'criminal offence' that proved costly in the team's narrow six-run defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! In a high-voltage final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, RCB lifted their maiden IPL trophy after 18 seasons. However, Iyer's early exit — caught behind for just 1 off 2 balls while attempting an ill-judged shot off Romario Shepherd — emerged as the turning point in Punjab's failed chase of 191. Who's that IPL player? Speaking to ANI, Yograj Singh didn't mince words. 'The shot which Shreyas Iyer played in the final was a criminal offence, according to me. Ashok Mankad told me about this criminal offence, which comes under Section 302. He also told me that the repercussions of this is that you will be banned for two matches. What Shreyas did yesterday is not acceptable. There is no apology for that.' 'Daring, Dynamic, Different': Ponting hails PBKS young guns despite final loss Batting first, RCB posted 190/9, with contributions from Virat Kohli (43), Rajat Patidar (26), and Jitesh Sharma (24). PBKS responded strongly with Shashank Singh's unbeaten 61 and Josh Inglis' quickfire 39, but a disciplined bowling effort from Krunal Pandya (2/17) and others held them back at 184/7. Despite Shashank's 22-run blitz in the final over, PBKS fell just short, with Iyer's early departure drawing heavy scrutiny as RCB celebrated long-awaited glory.
