Born on January 11, 1944 in Nemra village of undivided Bihar, which now comes under Ramgarh district of Jharkhand, Mr. Soren played a key role in the creation of Jharkhand. He co-founded the JMM along with A.K. Roy and Binod Bihari Mahto in 1973. The JMM soon became the primary political voice for the demand for a separate tribal State and got support across the Chotanagpur and Santhal Pargana regions. He served as Chief Minister of Jharkhand three times, but never completed a full term. He was elected several times to the Lok Sabha from Dumka. As a key figure in the United Progressive Alliance government, he also served as Union Coal Minister. (4) SC orders Delhi's stray dogs to be moved to shelters The Supreme Court ordered the Delhi municipality to capture 5,000 stray dogs in Delhi and move them to permanent shelters on August 12 after a spate of fatal attacks on Delhi's children led to gruesome deaths. While data on deaths caused by mauling is not available, data from the Integrated Disease Surveillance Portal shows that dog bites have been rising since 2022 in the country. One lakh people expected to reach Nemra on Shibu Soren's Shraddha-karma; four helipads built for VIPs
RANCHI: More than 1 lakh people, including several VIPs, are expected to attend the Shradh-Karma of Dishom Guru Shibu Soren on August 15th and the Sanskar Bhoj on August 16th. As preparations are in full swing, four helipads have been built in Nemra. Out of these, three have been built near the ancestral house of Shibu Soren, while the other has been built on Lukaiyatand Road. Distribution of cards printed in Hindi and Santhali languages, has already started. The Cabinet Secretariat will send invitation letters to the President, Prime Minister, Leader of Opposition, Congress President, Chief Ministers of states, and special guests. At the same time, the JMM District Committee has started sending cards to the people of the state. Barricades have been set up around 300 metres from Shibu Soren's ancestral house, with entry restricted to VIPs and close associates of the late leader. Most visitors' vehicles will be halted here, while a separate parking area has been arranged for VIPs one kilometre away. Only VIP vehicles will be allowed into the event venue, and 300 e-rickshaws have been stationed near Lukaiyatand to ferry attendees to the site. Additionally, a new road is being built from Gola to Silli More to ensure smooth travel to Nemra. Five big pandals are being set up, three of them for VIPs near the community hall. Guruji's picture will be displayed at four locations where people can pay their respects. Strict security arrangements have been made for the Shraddha rituals in Nemra. Nine IPS officers and 40 DSPs have been deployed—IPS from August 14 to 16 and DSPs from August 12 to 17. The police headquarters has issued the necessary orders.

Independence Day celebration to be low-key affair in Jharkhand as a mark of respect to Shibu Soren
RANCHI: Independence Day celebrations will be a low-key affair this time in Jharkhand as a mark of respect to the late tribal icon and founding patron of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Shibu Soren. Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar will unfurl the flag at Morabadi Maidaan in Ranchi, as Chief Minister Hemant Soren, supposed to unfurl the tri-colour, will have to perform the Shraddha-Karma of his father Shibu Soren. According to an official communique from the Chief Minister's Office, the Governor was given a proposal by the State Government to hoist the flag at Morhabadi on the occasion of Independence Day 2025, for which he has given his consent. 'Therefore, the Governor will hoist the flag at the State function of Independence Day organised at Morabadi. As per tradition, every year on Independence Day, the Governor hoists the flag in the sub-capital Dumka and the Chief Minister hoists the flag at Morabadi,' stated the official communique. In addition to that, the 'At Home Program' organised every year on the occasion of Independence Day at Raj Bhavan will also not be organised this year in honour of Dishom Guru Shibu Soren this year.
