Michigan State women's basketball makes NCAA Tournament, will face Harvard as 7-seed
After a remarkable 21-9 season that saw them finish fifth in the Big Ten, the Michigan State women's basketball program has made the NCAA Tournament. The Spartans will face Harvard, a 10-seed. The games will be played at NC State.
Harvard finished their season 24-4 and just won the Ivy League conference tournament. Michigan State lost to Iowa in the Big Ten Tournament.
The Spartans are led by head coach Robyn Fralick, who is in her second year at MSU, and leading scorers Grace VanSlooten, Julia Ayrault and Theryn Hallock. Harvard is led by head coach Carrie Moore and star scorer Harmoni Turner. Turner averaged a remarkable 22.5 points per game for Harvard this year and just dropped 24 points in the Ivy League tournament final against Columbia.

As shared by Joe Tipton of Rivals, Costello has narrowed down his list of potential schools to six teams. One of those teams is the Spartans. They will be battling with the Michigan Wolverines, Texas Longhorns, North Carolina Tar Heels, Purdue Boilermakers, and Minnesota Golden Gophers to land his commitment. According to 247 Sports, Costello is ranked as the No. 11 power forward in the 2026 recruiting class. He is also ranked as the No. 70 overall player in the country. Hailing from Boston, Massachusetts, Costello stands in at 6-foot-10 and 195 pounds. He has attended The New School and is one of the most sought after recruits currently available in the 2026 class. While there are five other schools competing for his services, Izzo's presence gives Michigan State a fighting chance. USC baseball signs head coach Andy Stankiewicz to contract extension through 2030 season
Andy Stankiewicz is officially going to be sticking around USC for a while. On Saturday, the Trojans announced that they have signed their head baseball coach to a contract extension through the 2030 season. Stankiewicz just led USC baseball to their best campaign in nearly two decades. The Trojans qualified for their first NCAA Tournament since 2015 and made it to the final of the Corvallis regional, where they fell to Oregon State in the decisive seventh game. If USC wants to make it back to the NCAA Tournament in 2026, they will have to do so without their two best players from this past season. Two-way sensation Ethan Hedges was drafted in the third round of the MLB Draft by the Colorado Rockies and signed with the team, while star pitcher Caden Aoki transferred to Georgia for his final year of eligibility. While Hedges and Aoki will be tough to replace, however, the Trojans should return many key players from their NCAA Tournament run. In addition, after two years without an on-campus stadium, USC should finally be able to begin playing at the new Dedeaux Field next spring. In recent years, the storied USC baseball program seemed to have lost its way a bit. But with Stankiewicz at the helm for years to come, the future for the Trojans appears to be trending upward.

Wisconsin starting offensive lineman makes notable preseason watch list
Wisconsin center Jake Renfro made the Rimington Trophy watch list earlier this week. Renfro was one of seven Big Ten centers on the 40-player list, along with Oregon's Iapani Laloulu, Iowa's Logan Jones, Indiana's Pat Coogan, Michigan State's Matt Gulbin, Rutgers' Gus Zilinskas and Ohio State's Carson Hinzman. He will look to join Tyler Biadasz (2019) as the only other Wisconsin Badger to win the award. The veteran center is entering his third year with the Badgers. He transferred to the program from Cincinnati after the 2022 season, following head coach Luke Fickell. After missing most of the 2023 campaign due to injury, the former first-team All-AAC center anchored the Badgers' offensive line in 2024. He is set to do the same in 2025. The biggest threat to that status is the center's health. He is currently considered week-to-week after suffering a lower-body injury during training camp practice on Thursday. While he has not been ruled out for Wisconsin's Week 1 matchup on Aug. 28, his status for that game appears in question. Wisconsin can ill afford another long-term injury along its starting offensive line, especially after projected starting left tackle Kevin Heywood suffered a season-ending knee injury during spring practice. Wisconsin's replacement at blindside tackle is one of the team's biggest questions in training camp. Given health, Renfro should be one of the Big Ten's better centers in 2025. However, with kickoff less than three weeks away, that health is already a question.
