Gurugram metro project tender extended till May 15

Hindustan Times02-05-2025
Gurugram: The tender for the Gurugram Metro rail project has been extended till May 15 due to slight changes in the scope of work, which has now been added to the tender. A senior Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) official, who is aware of the matter, said that it has been decided that the Bakhtawar Chowk underpass which is along the alignment of the metro will be constructed by the GMRL and so the date has been extended. The tender was scheduled to be opened on May 1 but officials said that in order to provide time to the bidders to revise their bids, the corporation has decided to wait for some time.
Earlier, the date of opening the bids was extended from April 22 to May 1 due to the fact that there were a large number of pre-bid queries raised by the bidders. 'It has been decided that the Bakhtawar Chowk underpass will be constructed by GMRL and this work has now been included in the tender for the first phase of the project. The date of opening the bids has now been extended to May 15. The underpass will be constructed by a civil contractor of GMRL but the money will be paid by the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA),' said a senior GMRL official.
The metro corporation had floated the tender for construction of the first phase of the Gurugram Metro on March 8 from Millennium City Centre to Sector 9, including a spur to the Dwarka Expressway (1.85 km) and a ramp to the proposed metro depot in Sector 33. According to the tender document, in the first phase of construction, the contractor will have to build 15.22km of the metro rail viaduct and also 15 stations. The approximate cost of this work is Rs1,286 crore and the bids for this contract will now be opened on May 15.
Meanwhile, in a related development, a GMRL contractor said that they have completed the ERT survey for 13 stations of the Gurugram Metro from Millennium City Centre to the Sector 9 metro station. The contractor has also completed the ground penetrating radar survey (GPRS) of five metro stations in the first phase. 'The ERT survey will help us in finding the water level under the stations and the character of the soil. The stations will be designed on the basis of these surveys,' said an official of the contractor.

State poised to lead India's quantum technology push: Raichur MP

Bengaluru: Karnataka is ready to play a leading role in shaping India's quantum technology land-scape, Raichur MP G. Kumar Naik told the Lok Sabha on Monday while welcoming the Centre's decision to invest in the National Quantum Mission (NQM). Speaking under Rule 377, Naik stressed the need for better coordination, a clear im-plementation roadmap, and cooperative federalism to ensure that the mission delivers measurable outcomes. Drawing lessons from India's semiconductor programme, he warned against the risk of ambitious projects stalling despite large budget allocations. Naik highlighted Karnataka's early strides in the sector, including the announcement of a Rs1,000-crore Quantum Fund — the first of its kind in the country — and a compre-hensive vision for quantum technology development under Chief Minister Siddara-maiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. He credited State Science and Technology Minister N.S. Boseraju for conceptualising and executing the inaugural Quantum India Summit 2025 in Bengaluru, which brought together Nobel Laureates, global experts, industry leaders, and researchers. Key state initiatives include a dedicated Quantum Research Park and Q-City, Fabline, quantum coursework in over 20 colleges, and a strong startup ecosystem. Karnataka produces more than 91,000 quantum-relevant graduates annually, second only to the EU, Naik said. Boseraju added that the success of the national mission depends on the State and Centre working 'hand-in-hand' with shared vision, strategic coordination, and sus-tained investment in talent and infrastructure.

Once approved, barricading will begin at the construction zones. "We have finalised the agency, and the work will be awarded soon after following the due process. The groundbreaking ceremony is expected to be held within this month. We have asked the agency to get ready and expedite preparatory work so that civil construction can start on time. Traffic management will be implemented in a way that minimises inconvenience to commuters," a GMRL official said. The traffic management plan will involve creating temporary diversions and alternative routes, setting up barricades and warning signage, and deploying traffic marshals in coordination with police to manage traffic. The plan also includes working during off-peak and night hours to reduce congestion, as well as ensuring pedestrian safety through designated walkways. Also, the metro authority is planning to widen roads so that at least two lanes remain open in each direction even after an 8-metre-wide section is occupied for metro construction. Starting from Millennium City Centre, the stations on this section will be Sector-45, Cyber Park, Sector 47, Subhash Chowk, Sector 48, Sector 33, Hero Honda Chowk, Udyog Vihar 6, Sector 10, Sector 37, Basai, and Sector 9. From Basai, a spur will be connected to the Dwarka Expressway at the Sector 101 station. The project, expected to be over by 2028, will cover 30.5 km and eventually connect Millennium City Centre to Cyber City with 28 stations, including the spur from Basai and Gurgaon Railway Station.
