Doctor Who and Mind Your Language star Pik-Sen Lim dies aged 80
British actress Pik-Sen Lim, best known for her roles on shows including Doctor Who and Mind Your Language, has died aged 80.
Born in British Malaya in 1944, Lim migrated to Britain when she was just 16 to pursue an acting career.
Her first screen credit came a few years later when, in 1964, she played a nurse in the hospital drama Emergency Ward 10.
It was on the set of this show that she also met scriptwriter Don Houghton, whom she married in 1968 and went on to have daughter Sara Houghton, also an actress, with.
In 1971 Lim played Chin Lee in the Doctor Who serial The Mind of Evil, which was written by her husband.

The actress also went on to appear in the first three seasons of the sitcom Mind Your Language.
However, it's now been announced that the actress died earlier this month.
Paying tribute to Lim, actor Daniel York Loh wrote on Instagram: 'An iconic figure in so many ways, I'd seen her on TV in Mind Your Language amongst other things when I was a kid…
'She was so affectionate, so witty, so brilliantly scabrous and absolutely honest about the rubbish this industry deals actors of our heritage – unlike a fair few others who actually try and cape it.
'We'll miss you so much but thank you, Pixi, for blessing our lives with your unique presence.'
Meanwhile director Barnaby Edwards shared: 'My abiding memory of Pik-Sen 'Call me Pixie' Lim is of the utter delight she inspired in those of us lucky enough to work with her.
'She was acting alongside her daughter, Sara, and their relationship was a joy to behold: Sara was the responsible adult; Pixie, the naughty child.
'And nowhere was this mischief more in evidence than during the wildtrack session at the end of the day.' More Trending
Other notable roles throughout Lim's career came in Albion Market, Night and Day, Arabian Nights, The Bill, Little Britain, This Way Up and Vampire Academy.
She also played the killer cleaner in the 2011 film Johnny English Reborn, while her last screen credit came in an episode of the American science fiction drama The Nevers in 2023.
Lim was also known for being the narrator of the Dark Souls video game series.

According to the British Film Institute, Lim was 'the most familiar Chinese actor on British television screens in the 1970s and 80s.'

First look at Suranne Jones as Prime Minister in new Netflix show Hostage
Netflix has released first look images of Hostage, a new political thriller starring Suranne Jones in her first-ever project for the streaming platform. The five part series will see Jones take on the role of British Prime Minister Abigail Dalton, who finds herself in crisis when her husband is kidnapped. French screen queen Julie Delpy will co-star as fictional French President Vivienne Toussaint, who is blackmailed around the same time. Both women end up having to make very difficult decisions which put their political reputations on the line. Netflix's synopsis teases: "When the British Prime Minister's husband is kidnapped and the visiting French President is blackmailed, the two political leaders both face unimaginable choices. "Forced into a fierce rivalry where their political futures, and lives, might hang in the balance, can they work together to uncover the plot that threatens them both?" The series is written by Bridge of Spies and Treason creator Matt Charman, with Jones doubling up as an executive producer. The Vigil and Doctor Foster star has opened up about the project, saying: "I'm thrilled to be on Netflix, in something I'm really proud of. It's been something I've wanted to do for a long time. "We'd talked about projects previously, but for me it was about finding the right thing. Hostage was perfect – me and Matt together backed up by this brilliant, supportive team. I loved it." Charman praised Jones's performance, saying: "I've been dying to find the right story to tell with Suranne and I honestly believe what she's done with this character is going to blow the Netflix audience away. (Image: BANG Showbiz ) White Lotus actor Jason Isaacs has said the film industry is "full of terror" at the increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) but the success of The Salt Path shows there is still a huge audience appetite for more traditional storytelling. The British actor stars alongside Gillian Anderson in the film, which tells the real-life story of a couple who trek along the 630-mile South West Coast Path after becoming homeless. Appearing on ITV's Good Morning Britain, Isaacs said: "This film has been killing it at the box office week after week. "It's a beautiful story about two positive people of a certain age, and the mysteries and miracles of nature and love. "What's great is the number of people in Britain who want to tell grown-up stories, nuanced stories, on a limited budget. "They put their passion into it. Article continues below "And with AI coming for everybody, the industry is full of terror. "But actually right now, grown-ups want to go and see grown-up stories." The actor, who is also known for playing Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, praised White Lotus director Mike White, and said he was initially worried about portraying the character of Timothy Ratliff in the hit series. Isaacs said: "I was scared that I'd be the most boring person that had ever been in White Lotus. "Because there were no words, and I was chugging all these pills that would, essentially, make me feel asleep. "But the way Mike tells the story – he's a brilliant director as well as a writer.
