Cops Say Corvette Hits 140 MPH During Chase, Airplane Needed to Follow It

Yahoo30-05-2025
The driver of a 2024 Chevrolet Corvette is facing multiple charges after allegedly being caught speeding at 140 miles per hour over the Memorial Day holiday. According to New Hampshire State Police, the driver refused to stop for troopers on the ground and sped recklessly through traffic, and was ultimately only caught with the help of a police airplane.
According to a press release posed to their Facebook page, the New Hampshire State Police were conducting a traffic enforcement initiative tied to the holiday weekend on Monday. As part of the initiative, troopers were patrolling Interstate 93 in Salem in a fixed-wing aircraft. At approximately 7:45am, authorities say a white C8 Corvette was spotted traveling at 110 mph; troopers on the ground reportedly tried to pull the car over, but the driver increased speed and made a run for it.
Trooper Thomas Lombardi tracked the Corvette from the sky, police say, and guided the staties on the ground to the location of the car. The driver was arrested, and authorities have identified him as Brandon E. Babcock, 22, of Salem, Massachusetts. The charges he faces include reckless driving and disobeying an officer; the former carries a minimum fine of $620 as well as the loss of a driver's license for 60 days.
That said, Babcock wasn't the only one going fast in the Granite State that weekend, according to New Hampshire State Police. The release says that six drivers were clocked at more than 100 mph during the special traffic enforcement initiative, while 42 drivers were observed going faster than 90 mph. The highest speed limit in New Hampshire, for the record, is 70 mph.
This New Hampshire incident wasn't the only newsworthy case of Corvette drivers apparently struggling to behave themselves on the roads over the Memorial Day holiday; five Corvette drivers were ticketed for speeding in California in a similar holiday weekend traffic enforcement initiative. Perhaps next year, these driver should take another car to the backyard barbecue... or better yet, ease off the gas a little.

Collector-Grade 2019 Corvette ZR1 Convertible Hits the Auction Block

The Corvette has long been Chevrolet's proof that world-class performance doesn't have to come with a stratospheric price tag. The latest C8 Corvette ZR1 is no exception. Priced from $174,995, it is the most expensive Corvette ever built (before the all-new electrified ZR1X), though still significantly cheaper than its European counterparts from Ferrari, Lamborghini, and McLaren. For that figure, Chevrolet delivers staggering performance: a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter LT7 V8 producing 1,064 horsepower and 828 lb-ft of torque, capable of sprinting from zilch to 60 mph in 2.3 seconds. Real-world drag races have shown it outpacing both the Ferrari SF90 and Lamborghini Revuelto despite costing less than a third of their price. However, $175,000 is still steep, especially for those seeking Corvette performance without crossing into exotic-car pricing. That's where the C7 ZR1 comes in. The last front-engine Corvette is still exceptional in today's standards, and one example has surfaced on Bring a Trailer with minimal mileage – a perfect opportunity if you're not a fan of the current midship 'Vettes. The C7 Corvette ZR1 Convertible up for grabs is a 2019 model, finished in black over Jet Black leather and equipped with the ZTK Track Performance Package. It's in excellent condition with only 6,000 miles on the clock. At its heart sits a supercharged 6.2-liter LT5 V8 producing 755 hp and 715 lb-ft of torque, coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission and an electronic LSD. An aftermarket X-pipe has been added, and an oil change was performed before sale. The ZTK package, of course, adds an adjustable high rear wing, front splitter end caps, stiffer springs, and revised tuning for Magnetic Ride Control. Additional features include carbon-ceramic brakes with Brembo calipers, exposed carbon-fiber aero components, and Satin Graphite staggered wheels. Inside, the cabin is anchored by Competition Sport bucket seats and offers conveniences such as a head-up display, navigation, a Bose sound system, and keyless entry. The odometer confirms the 6,000-mile reading, while Carfax maintains that the car has no accident history. At the time of writing, bidding stands at $130,000. Considering its condition, limited mileage, and track-focused specification, the figure shows that the C7 ZR1 is still desirable, even with the crown already passed on to the mid-engine C8 models. While it may not match the outright numbers of the latest C8 ZR1, it retains a unique appeal as the last of the front-engine Corvettes. For those unwilling to pay the nearly $175,000 starting price of the new car, this 2019 example presents a blend of rarity, performance, and heritage that keeps the C7 ZR1 firmly in the conversation. Judge Approves Return Of Young Thug's Seized Property After YSL Trial

Source: Prince Williams / Getty A judge has ruled that rapper Young Thug can get back the property that was taken from him during the YSL trial. On Monday, Fulton County Superior Court Judge Paige Whitaker approved a request from his lawyers to return the items. These included $149,426 in cash, a 2022 Chevrolet Corvette, a 2022 Porsche 911, and a 2018 Lamborghini Aventador. Before the hearing, Thugger's legal team filed a motion to dismiss the state's attempt to permanently take the property. They argued that the prosecutors didn't hold a hearing within 60 days after a court order allowed the forfeiture process to continue. This, they said, was a violation of the legal timeline. Prosecutors disagreed, saying it was actually the defense who asked to delay the hearing back in May. They also said that ATL rappers lawyers didn't object to the new hearing date until they filed the motion to dismiss. Still, the judge ruled in favor of Thug. We care about your data. See our privacy policy. The state does have the right to appeal the decision, so this might not be the end of the matter. Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffery Williams, reached a plea deal in October 2024. He pleaded guilty to most of the charges against him and no contest to conspiracy to violate the RICO Act and being involved in a criminal street gang. His plea deal ended his part in the YSL trial, which started in November 2023. As part of the deal, he was sentenced to five years in prison, which was counted as time already served, followed by 15 years of probation. There is also a 20-year prison sentence added on, but that will be canceled if he follows all the rules of his probation. Getting his property back is another win for Young Thug as he continues to put the legal battle behind him.
