Mets Announce Move After Injury News
Mets Announce Move After Injury News originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Following their loss to the New York Yankees on Sunday, the New York Mets will head on the road to take on the Baltimore Orioles in a three-game series starting on Tuesday. Advertisement Despite a rough patch in June, things are beginning to turn around for New York. They won each of their last four games before Sunday, and they are just one game behind the Philadelphia Phillies for the NL East lead. As the Mets look to continue this momentum, Tuesday's game in Baltimore could be a big one for them. Ahead of the game, the team made a notable roster move following an injury announcement. New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso (20), shortstop Francisco Lindor (12), designated hitter Starling Marte (6), outfielder Jesse Winker (3), second baseman Luisangel Acuna (2)© Gregory Fisher-Imagn Images In addition to turning it around on the field, the Mets are also getting some reinforcements, which might help with their momentum. According to the Mets' official X account, OF Jesse Winker has been reinstated from the 60-day IL and will return to the team. However, on the flip side, New York has placed OF Starling Marte on the 10-day IL with a right knee bruise. Advertisement Winker has not played since May 4 due to an oblique strain. Before his injury, the Buffalo native was hitting .239 at the plate with one home run and 10 RBIs. The Mets are still among the best teams in the NL and are within reach of the division lead. With just a week remaining until this year's All-Star Game, they will want to end the first half of the season on a high note, and it all starts with Tuesday's game. Mets Star Pete Alonso Addresses MLB Future After $200 Million Report
Mets Star Pete Alonso Addresses MLB Future After $200 Million Report originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Last offseason, Pete Alonso signed a two-year, $54 million contract to stay with the New York Mets. Prior to his new deal, the Tampa native spent the first six seasons of his career with the Mets, becoming one of the best first basemen in the majors during that stretch. Advertisement Through the first half of the first year of his contract, Alonso is putting together another solid campaign. In 97 games, he is hitting .280 at the plate with 21 home runs, an NL-leading 26 doubles, and 77 RBIs. Additionally, Alonso earned his fifth career All-Star appearance. In May, Jeff Passan of ESPN reported that the 30-year-old could earn $200 million in his next contract if he opts out of his $24 million player option for the 2026 season. Recently, Alonso spoke about his MLB future following Passan's report. New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso (20).Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images Up to this point, Alonso has played his entire MLB career with the Mets. He has been a big part of their success, including this season, where they are currently just 0.5 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies for the NL East lead. Luckily for New York, it seems that their first baseman is not interested in going anywhere. Advertisement "If it works out. It would be really special to," Alonso said about possibly staying with the Mets past this season. "[I'm] happy that I stayed - this is a great team, a great group of guys. We'll see what happens business-wise. Nothing is guaranteed." After their NLCS loss to the eventual champion Los Angeles Dodgers last year, the Mets are in a good position to remain title contenders for a while. This includes later this year if all goes well for them. As New York looks to stay in the title picture and return to the World Series for the first time since 2015. Hopefully for them, Alonso will stay with the team as they look to achieve this goal. Penn State tight end Luke Reynolds could be in for a breakout season in 2025
Many talented tight ends have passed through Penn State in recent seasons, with the last five starters at the position being drafted to the NFL. Continuing that line of star power is Luke Reynolds, who was the third-highest ranked tight end to ever commit to Penn State, per the 247Sports composite. Reynolds made a few splash plays last fall as a true freshman and seems poised to leap into a significant role in 2025. Here's a look at Reynolds as the season rapidly approaches. 2024 in review Reynolds' path to playing time was blocked by John Mackey Award winner and first-round talent Tyler Warren and veteran Khalil Dinkins. Despite his role as TE3, Reynolds showed his elite skillset with a clutch fourth-down conversion against Minnesota and a highlight reel touchdown against Purdue, showing fans why he was ranked a 5-star by 247Sports. He finished the year with nine receptions for 111 yards and one carry for 32 yards. Biggest question in 2025 With Warren, Penn State's leading pass-catcher off the the NFL, the Nittany Lions have big shoes to fill at the position. While it's highly unlikely Reynolds can match Warren's historic numbers from 2024, the question becomes how closely he can recreate the lost production in 2025. With three transfer wide receivers likely to lock down starting roles, quarterback Drew Allar may look to his tight ends for a dependable target. Can Reynolds prove to be a reliable pass-catcher to fill the void left by Warren, or will Allar have to rely more heavily on the wide receiver corps? 2025 will be a success if… Reynolds, a converted high school quarterback, is still relatively new to the position - but his upside is evident. If Reynolds can continue to grow into the role and develop as a blocker, he'll likely lock down the starting role over Dinkins, who specializes in pass-blocking. If Reynolds can take the reigns and continue to develop in the blocking game, his ceiling is extremely high and he could find himself in All-Big Ten territory. 2025 will be a disappointment if… If Reynolds' is unable to take a step forward and shows inconsistencies, he'll likely play second fiddle to Dinkins in 2025. With limited playing time, he'll burn another year of eligibility without a significant impact and the Nittany Lions' tight end production will falter in 2025. Realistic outlook for 2025 Reynolds will battle for the starting job, and if he wins out, will be in for a breakout season. He won't come close to Tyler Warren's 1,233 yards from a season ago, but could realistically accumulate half of that, still a very strong season for a tight end. His inexperience at the position may lead to some inconsistencies, like dropped passes or missed blocks, but his play-making ability will also provide some fireworks throughout the year.
