"These kinds of statements from the Leader of the Opposition are extremely harmful for the nation, and they demoralise our forces," the minister said.
He said several leaders had appealed to Gandhi not to make unsubstantiated statements, but he was unwilling to take any counsel.
"I am happy that the Supreme Court has given him a warning. It is a strong rebuke for making unsubstantiated claims. I hope he and the Congress mend their ways after the rebuke from the Supreme Court," Rijiju said.

The minister asserted that India's territory was completely secure.
Rijiju said the armed forces and the government have consistently stated that while there is a longstanding border dispute, no land has been seized by China.
"Maybe, Rahul Gandhi may have got his information from the Chinese," the minister said.
Rijiju said this dispute dated back to before 1962, and there have been occasional confrontations during patrolling, something clearly visible in several videos showing face-offs between the Indian and Chinese armies, largely because the boundary is not demarcated.
The minister said Gandhi is a responsible citizen and should refrain from making unsubstantiated claims.
"In my state, in my village, I know how assiduously our armed forces protect our land. How can he make such claims, sitting in Delhi, that our land has been grabbed in Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh," said Rijiju, who represents the Arunachal West parliamentary seat in the Lok Sabha.

Governor RN Ravi reserves Kalaignar University Bill for President's assent, delays new varsity launch

CHENNAI: Governor RN Ravi has reserved the Kalaignar University Bill, passed by the legislative assembly to form a new university in Kumbakonam with the chief minister as chancellor, for the President's consideration. 'The governor has not given immediate assent to the bill but has instead, referred it to the President for a decision. This will further delay the process of formation of the university as we have to wait for the President's reply, ' said a higher education official. The President can either give assent, withhold assent, or return the bill for state government had announced the new university in the name of former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi in Kumbakonam in this year's budget. The bill proposed that the chief minister (presently MK Stalin) will be the chancellor of the university and the higher education minister would be the pro-chancellor. The bill was moved in the legislative Assembly in April this year and later sent to governor for his assent. Chezhiaan had announced that the university would start functioning from academic year 2025-26 only, however due to delay in governor's assent the department could not inaugurate the varsity, said a higher education official. Stalin and higher education minister Govi Chezhian had expressed their displeasure, claiming the governor had been sitting on the bill for three months and that the government was considering moving the SC again. The Supreme Court's landmark judgment in April approved 10 amendment bills that curtailed the governor's powers to appoint V-Cs in 18 of the 20 state-run universities. However, another bill to amend the University of Madras Act is also pending President's approval. Apart from approving the bills, the SC also set a timeline for governors to act on bills.

Madras HC directs TN to decide on horizontal reservation for transgender, intersex persons

CHENNAI: Appreciating the Tamil Nadu government for the implementation of the Tamil Nadu State Policy for Transgender Persons, 2025, the Madras High Court has directed the state to take a decision on the request from the community for horizontal reservation in education and employment. The direction was given by Justice N Anand Venkatesh in an order passed on a petition on Monday. He pointed to Clause 3.7 of the policy which uses the term 'Right to Representation in Employment and Educational Institution'. It is not clear as to whether the government wants to provide horizontal reservation to the transgender and intersex persons as it has always been the request made by the community and has been reflected in many of the earlier orders passed by the various courts, he said. 'Hence, the state government is directed to take a decision in this regard so that the transgender and intersex persons need not knock the doors of this court every time and seek for reservation in public employment and educational institutions,' the judge added. Referring to the constitution of district level committees, the judge asked the state government to ensure representation of at least one transwoman, transman and intersex person in the committee for its effective functioning, and instructed the government to make necessary modifications in this regard. The judge said though marriages of transgender and intersex persons are already recognised by the Supreme Court, the real challenge is faced when registrations of such marriages are sought. Hence, the state government must issue necessary directions to the registrars about the legal sanction of these marriages, he added.

"I don't know anything about it": Trump on U.S. imports of Russian chemicals and fertilizers

U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday (August 5, 2025) stated that he had no knowledge that the United States imports Russian Chemicals and fertilizers. The rebuttal came after India claimed that U.S. continues to import from Russia uranium hexafluoride for its nuclear industry, fertilisers, as well as chemicals. When asked by the ANI about U.S. Imports of Russian chemicals and fertilizers during a press conference at the White House, Mr. Trump said, 'I don't know anything about it. We will have to check.' ANI has reached out to the President's press team and awaits for a response. The comment came a day after the U.S. President announced that the United States would 'substantially raise' tariffs on India over its purchase of Russian oil. 'India is not only buying massive amounts of Russian Oil, they are then, for much of the oil purchased, selling it on the open market for big profits. They don't care how many people in Ukraine are being killed by the Russian War Machine. Because of this, I will be substantially raising the Tariff paid by India to the U.S.A. Thank you for your attention to this matter!!!' Mr. Trump had said in a post on Truth Social on Monday (August 4, 2025). The U.S. President's statement was strongly rejected by India, with the Ministry of External Affairs calling the targeting of India 'unjustified and unreasonable.' In a detailed response, India said its imports from Russia were based on market needs and energy security, especially after Western nations diverted traditional supplies to Europe following the Ukraine conflict. 'In fact, India began importing from Russia because traditional supplies were diverted to Europe after the outbreak of the conflict. The United States at that time actively encouraged such imports by India for strengthening global energy markets stability. India's imports are meant to ensure predictable and affordable energy costs to the Indian consumer. They are a necessity compelled by global market situation. However, it is revealing that the very nations criticizing India are themselves indulging in trade with Russia. Unlike our case, such trade is not even a vital national compulsion,' the statement noted. The government also pointed to continued trade between Russia and both the United States and the European Union. 'Where the United States is concerned, it continues to import from Russia uranium hexafluoride for its nuclear industry, palladium for its EV industry, fertilisers, as well as chemicals. In this background, the targeting of India is unjustified and unreasonable. Like any major economy, India will take all necessary measures to safeguard its national interests and economic security,' the MEA statement said.
