Muncy powers Dodgers with 7 RBIs in 18-2 rout of Yankees, LA's most runs ever vs New York

Hindustan Times5 days ago

LOS ANGELES — Max Muncy hit two three-run homers and tied his career high with seven RBIs, helping the Los Angeles Dodgers rout Aaron Judge and the New York Yankees 18-2 on Saturday.
The Dodgers pounded out 21 hits and their runs were their most ever against the Yankees, whose only runs came on Judge's 20th and 21st homers. Los Angeles set a record for runs by a National League team against the Yankees.
The Dodgers batted around in the first two innings, pummeling Yankees starter Will Warren . He needed 39 pitches in the first when the Dodgers led 4-0 on RBI singles by Will Smith and Muncy, a sacrifice fly by Michael Conforto and Tommy Edman's RBI double.
Los Angeles was just getting started.
Muncy's 400-foot blast in the second was his 200th career homer and chased Warren. Edman had a RBI double and Kim followed with his second career homer, a 412-foot shot with two outs off Brent Headrick that made it 10-0. He and Shohei Ohtani, waiting to bat, bowed their heads to each other after Kim scored.
Muncy went deep off Mark Leiter Jr. with a 410-foot shot in the fifth and Andy Pages added a solo shot in the seventh. Rookie Dalton Rushing had his first major-league homer, a 3-run shot off position player Pablo Reyes in the eighth.
Dodgers starter Landon Knack allowed one run and five hits in six innings with six strikeouts.
Kim made a terrific play at shortstop in the third. Starting in place of injured Mookie Betts, he caught Jorbit Vivas' liner and dived head-first to tag the bag, doubling Austin Wells off second. The Dodgers successfully challenged the out call. In the seventh, Judge singled to center but was thrown out stretching to second on Pages' throw to Edman.
The Dodgers have outscored the Yankees 26-7 in the first two games of their World Series rematch. They beat New York in five games last year for their eighth world championship.
Yankees LHP Ryan Yarbrough starts Sunday against Dodgers RHP Yoshinobu Yamamoto in the series finale.

Projecting early MLB All-Star rosters for AL and NL - Who makes the cut?

In the lead-up to Midseason of the 2025 MLB season, the All-Star Game is set for July 15 in Truist Park, Atlanta, headlining the fans' wishes. With voting underway, impressive displays by men and women in both exhibitions are carving the potential rosters. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Following is an earlier take on who may end up sharing All-Star honours. American League: Powerhouses and emerging stars Aaron Judge continues his dominance in the league as the AL leader in batting average (.387), OPS (1.242), and runs scored (55). His consistency puts him at the very front of the pack when it comes to a starting outfield position. Cal Raleigh made a strong argument to be selected as the starting catcher, with his impressive power display leading the league with 23 home runs. Bobby Witt, Jr. must be a premier candidate for the starting lineup at shortstop, combining confidence defensively with offensive potency. Hunter Brown has been winning 8 times, the most in the league, and Garrett Crochet has been a very dominant starting pitcher, Crochet having more strikeouts (101) and innings pitched (82.0). National League: Veterans and rising talents Freddie Freeman appears to be in a class of his own this season with a .369 batting average and a 1.061 OPS, ranking first in the National League (NL) in these categories, hence cementing his status as the world lead in first basemen. With 23 home runs and 64 runs, Ohtani is utterly flawless with his offerings at the plate, thus functioning starkly as a slap hitter and as a pitcher. Francisco Lindor has done everything expected and more, ranking first in WAR among NL shortstops (2.8) and contributing many home runs and stolen bases that should have earned him an All-Star selection. Pete Crow-Armstrong has evolved into a good centre fielder, and with 21 stolen bases to his name, the best in the league, we can also add sterling defence here, so put him down for a well-deserved first All-Star nod. As of early June, Francisco Lindor has 11 home runs, 39 RBIs, and a batting average around .260. He has also been praised for his defense, turning double plays and making key stops up the middle. Also Read: Team success helps boost Francisco Lindor's MLB All-Star voting hopes The Mets are having a good season in the National League, which could help more players get All-Star votes. Alongside Pete Alonso, Kodai Senga, and Edwin Díaz, Lindor is in the conversation, especially because of his leadership on and off the field. On May 30, 2025, during a press meet in New York, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said, 'Lindor brings energy to the clubhouse and never stops working. He deserves recognition.'
