WNBA All-Star game ticket prices plummet amid Caitlin Clark's injury absence

Fox News19-07-2025
Ticket prices for the WNBA All-Star Game steeply dropped after it was announced Caitlin Clark would miss the game with a groin injury.
Clark was slated to be an All-Star team captain in just her second season and would lead Team Clark on her home floor at Gainbridge Field House in Indianapolis.
The cheapest ticket prices on TickPick were as high as $126, with an average resale price of $262, the highest in league history.
Front Office Sports reported the record prices on Wednesday, before Clark announced she would miss the game.
At the time of publication, the cheapest tickets on TickPick were $65, a 48.4% decrease.
Clark said Thursday she will not participate in the WNBA All-Star Game or its festivities after she appeared to aggravate a groin injury she sustained earlier in the season.
"I'm so excited for Indy to host WNBA All-Star this weekend. I want to thank the Indianapolis Host Committee and all of the people that have put endless work in over the past year to put this event together," she said. "I know this will be the best All-Star yet.
"I am incredibly sad and disappointed to say I can't participate in the 3-Point Contest or the All-Star Game. I have to rest my body. I will still be at Gainbridge Fieldhouse for all the action and I'm looking forward to helping Sandy (Brondello) coach our team to a win.
"Can't wait to see you all out there."
Clark sustained the injury in the waning moments of the Fever's win over the Connecticut Sun Tuesday night. She appeared to tweak her upper leg on a bounce pass to Kelsey Mitchell.
Injuries have been the main storyline for Clark this season. She's missed nearly a dozen games because of injuries but still managed to lead fan voting for the All-Star Game.
It's unclear how long Clark will be out.

MLB Speedway Classic set to resume Sunday after Braves-Reds game suspended by rain

After the Cincinnati Reds and Atlanta Braves were unable to make it through the first inning on Saturday night, the two teams return to Bristol Motor Speedway on Sunday, Aug. 3, to complete MLB's inaugural Speedway Classic. The history-making clash is the first-ever major league game in the state of Tennessee and the first to be held at a NASCAR track. But the record 85,000-plus fans expected to be in attendance only got a small taste of the action as persistent rain delayed the start of the game for over two hours and forced MLB officials to suspend the contest with the Reds leading 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning. How to watch the MLB Speedway Classic The MLB Speedway Classic between the Reds and Braves will continue on Fox. Fans can stream it on Fubo. Date: Sunday, Aug. 3 Time: 1 p.m. ET TV: Fox Stream: Fubo Location: Bristol Motor Speedway (Bristol, Tennessee) Speedway Classic weather issues The Speedway Classic was set to start at 7:15 p.m. ET, but rain began falling during pregame activities and the tarp was unrolled at 7:19 p.m. It remained there until skies cleared around 8:50 p.m. The game eventually started at 9:40 p.m. ET, but since Braves starting pitcher Spencer Strider had already gone through his warmup routine, the team decided to scratch him in favor of reliever Austin Cox. The Reds stuck with their original starter, Tennessee native Chase Burns, who retired the Braves in order in the top of the first. But the skies began to open up once again – quickly turning the playing field into a quagmire as the Reds scored on Austin Hays' one-out RBI single. Play was halted immediately after that and ultimately suspended for the night. This article originally appeared on USA TODAY: Live updates: Braves, Reds set to resume MLB Speedway Classic

Packers' Bo Melton takes big step in converting from wide receiver to cornerback

Bo knows cornerback. At least, that's how it's looking at Green Bay Packers training camp right now for Bo Melton. Melton has been a wide receiver in the NFL up until this summer. His brother is a corner for the Arizona Cardinals, but Melton hadn't followed that same path. Now, though, Melton is pretty much playing exclusively cornerback to try and make the Packers' roster. He and Green Bay both likely saw the writing on the wall at wide receiver. He was at best seventh on this current depth chart that includes Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, Matthew Golden and Savion Williams. MORE: Micah Parsons breaks silence on his trade request Packers fans got a good look at Melton on Friday night at the Packers' Family Night training camp practice in the evening, and on at least one occasion, he looked up to the task. Lined up one-on-one with the speedy rookie Golden out wide, Melton matched him nearly step for step and did a good job to help break up a pass down the field. There's nothing Melton did there that screams, "This guy hasn't played cornerback before." MORE: Buccaneers' coach reveals chances of Shilo Sanders making Tampa Bay NFL roster Green Bay is a heck of a lot thinner and weaker at CB than WR, so if Melton can really show he belongs, it'd be a huge help. He also likely has an exponential learning curve there. He's got more room to grow since it's not a position he has played at this level before. Melton's best tests may come in the preseason games, when he's less familiar with the opposition and will have to react in real time. If he impresses there, he can seriously make this team. And it'd be a win for everyone, from Melton himself to the corner-needy Packers. Jared Verse explains what makes the Rams defensive line so special

The Los Angeles Rams have one of the best young defensive lines in the NFL. Jared Verse is the star, but the rest of the line features an eclectic group like Braden Fiske, Kobie Turner, Byron Young and the veteran Poona Ford. This unit (minus Ford, who only joined the Rams this offseason) combined for 28.5 sacks in 2024 and terrorized opposing offensive lines toward the end of the season. How did all four players accomplish this shared feat with just combined years of NFL experience? Verse says it's because all four have different traits that blend well together and that the whole group knows how to work off each other's strengths. 'Everybody has their own attributes, their own little things that make them a great rusher," Verse told CBS Sports last week. "Fiske is so twitchy, Kobie's so strong. BY's so fast. I'm just a really strong dude. We all have attributes of each other and when we're together, we excel. It's like when you're cooking, a bunch of stuff by itself ain't really good . But when you throw it together, it's the best thing you've ever had.' The one element they missed the most was run-stopping, though. Enter Ford, who is known as one of the best in the league. His inclusion in the defense line has been highly touted all offseason and his veteran leadership cannot be discounted, either. The Rams will need their ascending defensive line to anchor a defense that lacks firepower in the second and third levels. But with this group, they're on the right path.
