IIM Raipur hosts Chintan Shivir 2.0, Chhattisgarh CM attend event
In the 2-day residential program, the cabinet ministers, including the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Vishnu Deo Sai engaged on this dynamic platform for introspection, strategic dialogue, and policy innovation, aimed at accelerating the state's inclusive and sustainable development, according to the release.
The people who attended the event, including the Chhattisgarh CM, engaged in an intensive and collaborative dialogue on critical governance challenges, reform priorities, and strategic development roadmaps.
In his address, CM Sai stated 'Chintan Shivir 2.0, conducted through the collaboration of IIM Raipur and the Chhattisgarh Department of Good Governance, was a successful initiative where cabinet members were introduced to relevant topics that will help in running the government more efficiently. The topics chosen and the speakers were remarkable, and their teachings will greatly support us in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.'
Meanwhile, Ram Kumar Kakani, IIM Raipur's director said, 'We are honored to facilitate this exchange of ideas among policymakers and thought leaders. Chintan Shivir 2.0 is a reflection of our belief that academic institutions must go beyond classrooms and actively engage in real-world governance and leadership challenges. This platform not only fosters collaborative thinking between policymakers and scholars but also aligns with our larger mission of creating evidence-based, inclusive, and future-ready public systems. We are proud to support the Government of Chhattisgarh in its journey towards sustainable, citizen-centric governance and the broader national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.'
During the IIM Raipur retreat, Chhattisgarh state ministers stressed the need for a culture-sensitive development model combining local traditions to ensure sustainable prosperity in post-Naxal Chhattisgarh, including with fiscal discipline to cut compulsory expenditure, raise capital outlays, and aim for 12 per cent annual growth is needed to realize the vision of a developed state and India by 2047.
The ministers stressed that leaders must prioritise long-term societal outcomes over short-term gains, demonstrating transformational leadership through personal accountability and ethical governance rooted in cultural values. In the state, fostering cultural unity was highlighted as essential for national integration and building social capital.
Multiple academicians and experts from premier institutions including Ravindra H Dholakia, Professor Emeritus at IIM Ahmedabad; Himanshu Rai, Director of IIM Indore; Uday Mahurkar, former Central Information Commissioner and senior journalist; and Dr. Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, former Rajya Sabha MP and President of ICCR, graced the events and had insightful discussions.
Rajendra Pratap Gupta, a leading health policy expert and advisor to the government, and Sanjeev Sanyal, Member of the PM's Economic Advisory Council, also contributed their subject matter perspectives.
The program included sessions on 'Seva, Sankalp, aur Seekh' (Service, Resolve, and Learning), and concluded with the inauguration of the 'Sushasan Vatika' (Good Governance Garden) via a symbolic tree-planting ceremony. (ANI)

UP clears bill to form Banke Bihari Temple trust
LUCKNOW The Uttar Pradesh Shri Banke Bihari Ji Temple Trust Bill 2025 was cleared by state legislative assembly and the legislative council on Thursday, paving way for a trust to manage all funds related to the temple in Vrindavan town of Mathura. (ANI Photo) The Yogi Adityanath government had tabled the Bill in the assembly on Wednesday, replacing the ordinance promulgated on May 26. This Bill will give the trust rights over all the offerings and properties of the temple, including movable and immovable properties. Apart from jewellery, it also includes bank drafts and cheques. The trust will also decide the time of temple darshan, appointment of priests and salaries. According to the provisions of the Bill, the trust will get the work done for the temple complex and proposed corridor by taking advice from archaeological experts, engineers, architects and reputed institutions. The trust will include 11 nominated and seven ex-officio members. Planned facilities include computerised access and queue management kiosks, accessibility improvements for elderly and differently-abled visitors, designated prasad distribution points, potable water dispensers, resting benches and booths, gaushalas, community kitchens (Annakshetras), rest and travel houses, hotels, serais, exhibition halls, food halls, and waiting halls. Citing objectives of the Bill, the government stated: 'Shri Bankey Bihari Ji Temple in Vrindavan is an ancient temple. A large number of devotees visit here, especially during festivals. The temple is spread across approximately 870 sq m, out of which around 365 sq m is used as a viewing courtyard. Due to the extremely narrow access route to the temple, devotees and visitors face severe inconvenience. The tragic death of two devotees during an incident of overcrowding on August 20, 2022, highlighted the urgent need for efficient crowd management.' 'To fulfill the above-mentioned objectives, and for the all-round development and proper management of the temple area, including pilgrimage, religious, cultural, spiritual and establishment-related aspects and to ensure the temple's development and regulation in an organized manner, it was decided to constitute a trust named – Shri Banke Bihari Ji Temple Trust,' the Bill stated. While the Bill was being cleared in the Assembly, two members of the Samajwadi Party demanded discussion. However, the Speaker said they had not given notice for debate. Upon this, members of the SP staged a walkout from the House. As the state legislature was not in session and immediate legislative action was necessary to implement the aforesaid decision, the Uttar Pradesh Shri Banke Bihari Ji Temple Trust Ordinance, 2025 (UP. Kathiresan V: Championing the Rights of India's Freedom Fighters and Their Families
Cutting through thick forests with heavy armoury and canteen on their backs, the Indian National Army (INA) soldiers silently cross rivers, barren lands, insect-ridden jungles, trekking to Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Burma to gather Indian troops to overthrow the British Empire. 'This was their journey, and it was difficult. With hardly any sleep or food and only the thought of a free India on his mind, my grandfather kept going despite all odds,' says Kathiresan V, a farmer cum activist from Madurai who works for the rights of freedom fighters. The grandson of P M Ramu Konar, an INA soldier, Kathiresan has been working for the welfare of freedom fighters and their families since 1976, a cause he took up after growing up hearing stories of sacrifice and struggle from his grandfather. 'My grandfather always stood by INA veterans, and I would often accompany him to govt offices. Many times, officials demanded bribes just to file or process pension applications. After everything they endured for the country, it was heartbreaking to see them being treated this way. That's when I decided to join my grandfather in this,' he says. 'Many of them were living in dire conditions, fighting to survive. We used to personally accompany them to the meetings and to the departments, as many were too old to go alone,' he says. He says INA soldiers often donated money, jewels, and lands they owned to the cause of the freedom struggle and kept nothing for themselves. This pushed several of these veterans and their families to poverty. The families didn't get the chance to study, and only about 10% of these families are in good positions. Others are struggling to make ends meet,' says Kathiresan. One of the biggest issues he is tackling now is land rights. During the post-Independence years, many freedom fighters in Tamil Nadu were allotted land in recognition of their sacrifice. But over the decades, some of these plots have been taken over by private parties or the govt. 'In the records, the land is in their name, but someone else is using it. We have to fight case by case, often with the district revenue officer,' he says. The challenges are steep, from govt indifference to the rise of fraudulent claims from fake descendants, but Kathiresan works alone, refusing to give up. 'Right now, I have a small group of people who work for the cause, and I am on the lookout for someone who will take this cause forward. Their lives are over, but my work isn't. Himachal CM Sukhu inaugurates 76th state-level Van Mahotsav in Shimla
Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], August 14 (ANI): Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Thursday inaugurated the 76th State-Level Van-Mahotsav in Shimla. He also planted a deodar sapling during the Chief Minister launched the Rajiv Gandhi Van Samvardhan Yojna across all Assembly constituencies and virtually interacted with Ministers and MLAs participating in the programme, and discussed forest conservation and afforestation measures in the gathering on this occasion, he said that Van Mahotsav highlighted the importance of forests, often called the Earth's lifeline. 'This year, around 9000 hectares of forest land would be planted with trees under different schemes, and 60 per cent of these saplings would bear fruit," he said. Further, the CM highlighted the state government's work to ensure protection and enrichment of the rich biodiversity of the state. 'These efforts would contribute to achieving the target of increasing 30 per cent forest cover by 2030."The Chief Minister also stated that the Rajiv Gandhi Van Samvardhan Yojna would not only promote forest development but also enhance public participation and strengthen the rural economy. Under this scheme, Mahila mandals, Yuvak mandals, Self-Help groups and joint forest committees would plant and look after saplings on one to five hectares of designated forest land for five years. A budget provision of Rs 100 crore has been made for this year, saplings were being planted across 1,000 to 1,500 hectares of forest land at a cost of Rs 20 crore. An additional Rs 1.2 lakh per hectare was being provided for sapling maintenance, said the Chief also highlighted the state government's focus on financial discipline for Vyavastha Parivartan and the introduction of various reforms in the working of the Forest department. The officers were being encouraged to dedicate more time to fieldwork related to forest expansion and conservation rather than office Chief Minister further said that the government was implementing schemes that provide rural communities with self-employment opportunities near their homes, thereby strengthening their livelihoods. He said that the initiatives of the present state government in natural farming were also being recognised and appreciated also gave cheques of rupees one lakh each to different mahila mandals for tree plantation under the Rajiv Gandhi Van Samvardhan Yojna. Apart from this, cheques of Rs 50,000 each have also been distributed under the JICA project to the beneficiaries for livelihood. (ANI)
