Monsoon misery persists in Sanganer despite CM's repeated visits

Jaipur: The arrival of monsoon has not only brought the much-needed rains to Rajasthan but has also seen Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma making his second visit this year to his constituency, Sanganer.
On Wednesday, he issued fresh directives to Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) and Jaipur Municipal Corporation-Greater (JMC-G) officials, urging them to repair broken roads, address water supply issues and expedite sewer line work.
The reality on the ground, however, tells a different story. Sanganer continues to reel under the same age-old problems: crumbling infrastructure, choked drains and monsoon misery.
Take the Malpura underpass, for instance. Once meant to ease movement, it's now riddled with potholes, nearly impossible for two-wheelers to navigate without swerving dangerously. Just a few metres ahead, a broken cement block intended to cover an open drain lies partially collapsed. During heavy downpours, water rushes past with such force that the drain's gaping void becomes clearly visible.
Rajeev Jaga, who runs a nearby shop, said, "It's been nearly 15 days since this block broke.
Just two days ago, rainwater overflowed onto the road. We locals know where to step but for a stranger, it could be fatal."
The same chaos spills into public schools. At Mahatma Gandhi English Medium School in Dada Gurudev Nagar, water has flooded not only the approach road but the school playground as well. "Two days ago, the road outside was completely submerged," said staffer Ashok Jangid. "As for officials? No one ever shows up here, forget about acting."
Even as the Diggi Kalyan Ji pad yatra drew large crowds Thursday, basic arrangements were lacking. Babulal, who was setting up tents for the pilgrimage, remarked, "What's the use of the CM's visits? He comes, gives orders, leaves. Nothing changes. Even today, when everything should've been perfect, the roads are still broken and waterlogged."
Outside the CM's own local office building (Mukhyamantri Camp Karyalay), the main road is no better.
One side is a stretch of potholes, the other a mini-lake formed by stagnant rainwater deep enough to submerge a four-wheeler's tyres.
In Engineer's Colony near Mangyawas, the road caved in after Monday's downpour. Local resident Aman Saini says, "This road was once solid. Ever since they dug it up for the sewer line, it turns into a mess after just one rain. Now it's all mud and slush."
Perhaps the most symbolic of all is the RIICO Kata area, where the CM himself laid the foundation stone for road widening on Jan 12. Today, only the stone remains. Around it, nothing but water, cracked roads and a disappointed public.
Sanganer's struggle reveals a deeper rot where govt visits, foundation stones and grand declarations rarely translate into real change.

2 pilots grounded after flight carrying CM lands at wrong runway in Rajasthan

JAIPUR: A chartered flight carrying Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma from Delhi to Phalodi mistakenly landed on the wrong runway on July 31, 2025. The Falcon-2000 aircraft was scheduled to land at the Indian Air Force Station in Phalodi, but due to pilot error, it instead touched down on the civil airstrip in Phalodi town. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has launched an inquiry into the incident and grounded both pilots pending investigation. The incident occurred around 3 pm, shortly after the Chief Minister's departure from Delhi. The aircraft was meant to land at a military airbase located in a restricted zone, but the pilots mistakenly approached the nearby civil airstrip, about five kilometers away. Realising the error immediately after landing, they took off again and redirected the plane to the designated airbase. While the situation did not lead to any major mishap, it has raised serious concerns about aviation safety and procedural lapses. According to DGCA sources, the confusion likely stemmed from the similar geographical orientation and layout of the two airstrips. Both the civil and military runways in Phalodi share striking structural similarities, which may have led to the misjudgment.

Rajasthans Women Safer? Unpacking The Latest Crime Data Under CM Bhajanlal Sharma

Rajasthan, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, has recorded a significant decline in crime rates across key categories, including crimes against women. The data reflects a more responsive, disciplined, and transparent law enforcement mechanism now operational across the state. According to official records, the state's crime rate has declined from 490 incidents per lakh population to 370 per lakh, marking a sharp reduction in overall crime. Even more striking is the 924% drop in crimes against women, a category often considered a benchmark of social security and governance sensitivity. The government's multipronged approach includes strengthening police infrastructure, setting up Women Help Desks at every police station, introducing Rapid Response Units, and deploying technology-backed surveillance tools. Additionally, digital case tracking and mandatory daily reporting at the district level have helped bring more accountability into the system. Initiatives like "No Violence Weekends," safety education in schools, and digital public awareness campaigns have played a vital role in engaging local communities. Law enforcement officers, under the direct supervision of the CM's office, are carrying out regular field inspections and ensuring that complaints are resolved without delay. High-crime pockets in urban and peri-urban zones traditionally considered difficult to police have also seen targeted action. Anti-narcotics drives, gang clean-ups, and the dismantling of local criminal networks have contributed to a safer public environment. What makes this development particularly noteworthy is that it has come not through aggressive policing but through strategic resource deployment, better training, and closer integration between police and citizen bodies. The CM's administration has actively used both enforcement and engagement as tools for creating impact. Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, while addressing the media, reiterated, 'Our focus is not only to reduce crime statistically, but to build a society where every citizen, especially our daughters and sisters, feels genuinely safe.' The results position Rajasthan not just as a governance model in infrastructure or welfare delivery, but also in ensuring rule of law and public safety.

Auto unions threaten to halt services to Heerapura terminal over fare hike delay

Jaipur: Auto rickshaw unions have threatened to stop services to the Heerapura Bus Terminal if their demand for a fare hike is not met. In a letter to chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and deputy chief minister Prem Chand Bairwa, the unions warned that they would cease operations to the terminal unless the government approves the long-pending revision of fares. Speaking to TOI, Puneet Singh Issar, president of a city auto union, said, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) had been working on revising fares since early 2025 after 12 years. "Unfortunately, they slowed down the process suddenly. We were told it is still underway, but no time frame was given for announcing the hike," Issar said. Auto drivers said that it becomes very difficult to get a passenger from places like Bhankrota. Until and unless there is a hike in fare, it would be difficult for us to drop passengers at the Heerapura terminal. "The app-based services also offer very low fares, and most passengers prefer them as they can board an auto directly from their pick-up location. Many of us are also accepting passengers through these apps. Once the government increases the fare, we will switch back to operating on meters," said Kishan Lal Jangid, an auto driver. As per the draft fare proposal, the fare for the first kilometre is likely to increase from Rs15 to Rs30, while the rate for each subsequent kilometre may go up from Rs 9 to Rs 14. The new structure also proposes a 25% hike in night charges, a luggage fee of Rs10 per piece, and a waiting charge of Rs40. "For instance, the distance from Sindhi Camp to Heerapura is around 11 km, which means the fare would be at least Rs170 under the proposed rates. The RTO is considering implementing this substantial hike in one go," said a transport official.
