New program to focus on accelerating action and building community for women in imaging and print industries
Second season of 'Women Who Empower' aligns with the International Women's Day 2025 theme of 'Accelerate Action' and UAE's focus on building stronger communities during the 'Year of Community.'
Dubai, UAE – Canon Middle East, a leader in imaging solutions, has announced the launch of Season 2 of its successful 'Women Who Empower' campaign, developed in close alignment with the Dubai Business Women Council (DBWC). The initiative aims to uplift and support women in the imaging and print industries through comprehensive training programs, mentorship opportunities, and networking events.
The second season of 'Women Who Empower' aligns with the International Women's Day 2025 theme of 'Accelerate Action' and the UAE's focus on building stronger communities during the 'Year of Community.' The launch ceremony was attended by senior executives from both organizations.
Venkatasubramanian (Subbu) Hariharan, Managing Director, Canon Middle East and Türkiye, said, 'The Women Who Empower initiative embodies Canon's unwavering dedication to diversity, inclusivity, and women's empowerment. Guided by our corporate philosophy of Kyosei, living and working together for the common good, we aim to create opportunities that not only accelerate action but also build stronger, more connected communities. We're proud to build on the success of our first season with an even more comprehensive program designed to accelerate action and foster community among women professionals.'
Season 2 will offer training across three specialized modules:
Photography Module: Led by Jorge Ferrari, a renowned sports, action, and commercial photographer and Canon Ambassador, participants will learn photography fundamentals, visual storytelling techniques, and practical shooting skills.
Content Creation Module: Conducted by Jhon Ruzz Merca, a professional content creator based in Dubai, this module will cover the essentials of visual and video content creation, editing techniques, and content monetization.
Print Module: Directed by Ayman Aly, B2B Marketing Director at Canon Middle East, participants will gain insights into printing business trends, digital printing applications, and entrepreneurial opportunities in the printing industry.
The program, running from April 17to June 16, 2025, includes two theory and two practical sessions for each module, followed by portfolio development opportunities. The initiative will culminate in a closing ceremony where participants will showcase their work and receive recognition for their achievements.
Canon, as a global leader in imaging solutions, will provide resources including state-of-the-art imaging and printing equipment while identifying and equipping participants with expert trainers. At the end of the program, top participants will be rewarded with Canon products and featured on Canon's official platforms, showcasing their talent and creativity to a wider audience. Through Women Who Empower, Canon reinforces its role as a pioneer in imaging solutions while championing women's growth, creativity, and leadership in building stronger communities.

Sheikh Salem bin Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi, the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) proudly marked the 28th year of its Annual Emirates Recycling Awards on the occasion of World Environment Day, with a strong call to action to combat plastic pollution under this year's official theme, 'Ending Plastic Pollution.' The prestigious celebration was held at Dubai Knowledge Park and brought together a dynamic gathering of academic institutions, government entities, corporate leaders, diplomatic representatives, media, families and civil societies. In her opening address, EEG Co-Founder and Chairperson, Habiba Al Mar'ashi, emphasised the critical importance of the 2025 World Environment Day theme. She said 'Recycling is no longer optional—it is essential. As we stand at a critical juncture for our planet, the Emirates Recycling Awards reminds us that sustainability is a shared responsibility. Through our collective commitment to responsible waste management and environmental stewardship, we are actively shaping a greener, healthier future for generations to come.' She further lauded the UAE leadership for declaring 2025 as the 'Year of Community,' recognising the significance of uniting people through shared purpose. 'The spirit of community engagement and environmental action has always been at the core of EEG's work. As we celebrate this Year of Community, let us remember that real transformation begins with active, informed and united citizens. Environmental protection must be a collective endeavor,' she added. The Emirates Recycling Awards are a cornerstone initiative that celebrates outstanding contributions to waste diversion and resource recovery. This year's awards underscored the far-reaching impact of EEG's robust recycling campaigns, which have tangibly reduced carbon emissions, conserved energy and protected precious natural resources. Mrs. Al Mar'ashi announced that in the past year, EEG collected and sent for recycling a total of 1,524,769 kilograms of recyclable waste and diverted them from ending in landfills, achieved through its multi-category campaigns across the UAE. These included: Aluminum Cans: 32,833 kg Paper: 1,173,494 kg Printer Toners: 9,169 pcs Plastic: 131,468 kg Glass Bottles: 149,668 kg Mobile Phones: 3,921 pcs E-waste: 14,028 kg Scrap Metals: 11,569 kg These results highlight the measurable environmental gains and serve as a testament to the remarkable collaboration among UAE population, students, businesses and institutions. May 26, 2025 The Pakistan Association Dubai (PAD) has officially broken a Guinness World Record by creating the largest UAE flag made entirely of handprints. Unveiled at the Pakistan Auditorium, the flag includes 24,514 handprints from people representing over 100 nationalities across the UAE. The project is part of PAD's 'Hands of Unity' campaign, launched in alignment with the UAE's Year of Community. It brought together individuals from 23 schools and universities and involved 39 activation sites around the country. The record was jointly awarded to PAD, the community group Emirates Loves, and artist Rubab Zahra, who spearheaded the visual concept.

Dubai Judicial Institute (DJI) organised an insightful workshop titled 'Management of Partnerships and Their Impact on Community Sustainability,' in alignment with the objectives of the 'Year of Community' and its theme 'Hand in Hand.' The workshop aimed to promote a culture of institutional collaboration and shared responsibility across various sectors, while enhancing the effectiveness of partnerships as key drivers of sustainable development. This initiative reflects the UAE leadership's enduring vision for inclusive and resilient community advancement through strategic government collaboration. The workshop mainly focused on partnership management within government entities to reinforce the understanding of the legal and regulatory frameworks that govern public and community partnerships. It also sought to boost institutional capabilities in managing these partnerships, encourage strategic thinking for community sustainability, promote a culture of integration, and offer practical solutions to potential challenges. The program explored three main themes, including the legislative framework for government and community partnerships, governance of partnerships, and its contribution to promoting transparency and accountability, and analysing the community impact of partnerships. Her Excellency Judge Dr Ebtessam Ali Al Bedwawi, Director General of the Dubai Judicial Institute, stated: 'The workshop was organised as part of Dubai's strategic vision to reinforce cross-sector collaboration and lay foundations for effective community partnerships that advance sustainable development and public welfare. Through our dedicated training programs and workshops, we aim to raise legal awareness at both community and institutional levels, while cultivating a culture of shared responsibility. These continuous initiatives support the objectives of the 'Year of the Community' and offer an interactive platform for participants to exchange ideas and experiences, inspiring conversations around innovative initiatives that reinforce institutional and community collaboration and convert regulatory frameworks into tools for empowering community development.' This workshop is aligned with DJI's relentless efforts to instil a culture of institutional cooperation, underscoring the substantial role of strategic partnerships in strengthening social cohesion and highlighting the significance of public-community collaboration as a key enabler of sustainable development.
