Matthew Stafford returns to Rams practice Monday after weeks of uncertain injury updates
The Los Angeles Rams got some excellent news Monday. After weeks of uncertain injury updates, quarterback Matthew Stafford finally returned to practice. The Rams got out in front of the news, immediately tweeting out a picture of Stafford taking the field in a red practice jersey. The news should come as a welcome surprise for Rams fans, who have been given murky updates about the quarterback's injury status throughout training camp. Head coach Sean McVay teased Stafford's return a few times during camp, inviting plenty of questions when the quarterback failed to take the field after McVay indicated Stafford would be back. Stafford is dealing with a back injury. While his absence from training camp caused some to wonder whether Stafford's Week 1 status was in jeopardy, his return suggests he'll be fine for the start of the regular season. This story will be updated.

Xavien Howard's agent says 4-time Pro Bowler signing with the Colts
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Pro Bowl cornerback Xavien Howard is signing with the Indianapolis Colts, his agent David Canter announced Monday in a social media post. Colts officials have not yet made an announcement. The 32-year-old Howard was cut by the Miami Dolphins in February 2024 and did not play last year after suffering multiple injuries leading up to his release. Indy believes Howard can make an impact, though, because of his previous history with Lou Anarumo, the Colts new defensive coordinator. Anarumo coached Miami's defensive backs in 2016 and 2017 — Howard's first two seasons in the league. Indy was seeking help in the secondary because of injuries. Pro Bowl cornerback Kenny Moore II has missed time with an injured knee and another starter, Jaylon Jones, was taken off the practice field after hurting his hamstring. Rooke cornerback Justin Walley, a third-round draft pick, also was competing for a starting job until suffering a season-ending torn anterior cruciate ligament before the preseason opener. And cornerback JuJu Brents is out with a hamstring injury. Howard led the NFL interceptions twice during his career — picking off seven passes in 2018 and adding 10 more in 2020. He has 29 interceptions, including two he returned for scores, and 331 tackles in 100 games over eight NFL seasons. ___ AP NFL:

Rams' Matthew Stafford returns to practice after sitting out with back soreness
Matthew Stafford's long-awaited return to practice for the Los Angeles Rams finally came to fruition, as the team shared a video on X showing the 17-year veteran quarterback taking the field Monday morning. Stafford walked out with his customary red No. 9 jersey over his shoulder pads. Matthew Stafford out at practice. 9️⃣ — Los Angeles Rams (@RamsNFL) August 18, 2025 He was expected to make his return to practice one week ago, but the Rams chose to take a cautious approach with their 37-year-old quarterback, who has been dealing with an aggravated disk that caused back soreness for the last several weeks. Stafford had worked out on Aug. 9 before the Rams' first preseason game. Although the workout went well, Stafford didn't 'feel great' a couple of days later, which ended up holding him out of practice the rest of the week. Stafford was scheduled to work out again on Saturday, although it's unclear if he did so — and, if he did, how it went. But Stafford taking the practice field is a good sign for the Rams. Rams coach Sean McVay is expected to address the situation following Monday's practice. McVay previously mentioned that Stafford's ramp-up period would start with individual drills. Spot the pattern.
