Roy Keane asks Mikel Arteta pointed question despite Arsenal win over Man Utd
Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane questioned Arsenal's willingness to sit on a 1-0 lead despite the London side winning at Old Trafford. One goal was enough for the Gunners this time, with Riccardo Calafiori securing victory, but that might not always be the case.
Last season, dropped points from winning positions cost Mikel Arteta's side dear. They led in seven of their last eight matches but won only three, throwing away leads against Everton, Brentford, Crystal Palace and Bournemouth.
"You wonder why Arsenal are still coming up short - it's because they are still happy to sit back at 1-0," Keane said on Sky Sports. "And then you think, is that the reason you drew so many games last year?
"You compare that to Man City and Liverpool. They are always looking to go on and get the second or the third. Even on a bad day they can score two or three goals."
Liverpool and City each scored four on the opening weekend of the season, though the reigning champions were pegged back from 2-0 to 2-2 before beating Bournemouth. The draws stat alluded to by Keane relates to the 14 Arsenal chalked up in the league, as they finished 10 points behind Liverpool despite losing the same number of matches.
Keane's fellow pundit Micah Richards was impressed by Arsenal's resolve at the back. However, he also appeared to indicate a more ambitious attacking mindset might reduce the need for that kind of defending.
'It's how much you can dig deep," Richards said. "What has helped Arsenal stay in title races in recent years is that when they get into that low block, they are very difficult to break down. Then you add in the set-pieces and they are a good team. I would just like to see them be a little more brave.'
Arsenal boss Arteta was under no illusions about the quality of his team's display but was happy with the result. "We came here away and won which is a big result," the Spaniard said.
"We were clearly not at our best. We attacked the box and we reacted well to unusual mistakes. The team reacted time after time in an incredible way. Very proud of that because that is why we got the opportunity to win the game.
"We showed a resilience and a will to win. They put you on the ropes here, you will have to have moments when you suffer. To find a way to win at this ground, I'm very happy with the team."

'Tommy Fury bottled his fight with me – he made a mockery of his family'
Tommy Fury and Darren Till were meant to clash in a Misfits Boxing bout until the half-brother of Tyson Fury pulled out when he was threatened with kicks to the head by the ex-UFC star Darren Till claims Tommy Fury made "a mockery of his family" by pulling out of their Misfits Boxing clash. The 26-year-old was supposed to fight Till in January but pulled out of the bout a month before due to fears for his safety after comments made during a heated press conference. Former UFC star Till said that he was going to kick the half-brother of Tyson Fury in the head during their bout. Despite such a move being perfectly legal in mixed martial arts, which Till's background it in, it is strictly prohibited in the ruleset of boxing. And as a result, Fury decided to withdraw from the bout altogether, with plans shelved ever since. Till has since downplayed any thoughts that he might consider running it with Fury a little later down the line. Speaking exclusively to Mirror Fighting, the Liverpool-born fighter said: "Yeah, do you know what? Potentially. At this point with Tommy, the fight would be big, but it's just for me. "The money's got to be right and stuff like that, because he's trying to say he wouldn't give me the time of day. But I just wouldn't give him the time of day. He's made a mockery out of himself, he knows that as well. "He's made a mockery out of his family. So for me, if it's there, it's there. But if it's not, I don't really give a s***. Tommy seems to think I care. I don't really give a s*** if I fight Tommy or not. "It doesn't change my life, I'll probably make an extra bit of money because he's a big name and it's a big fight, but it doesn't change my life fighting Tommy or not. So if the money's right, and obviously I get to call the shots - because I'm the shot caller now - then yeah, let's see, maybe we'll do it." When asked if he believes that Fury actually pulled out due to fears of being kicked in the head, the 32-year-old added: "Even if I was going to kick him in the head, he was threatening to use elbows against KSI. So I don't understand it. "Is it one rule for him and another for others? So even if, in the grand scheme of things, I was going to kick him in the head… if another man said that to me, I'd be like, 'Well f***ing sound, kick me in the head, we'll see what happens.' "So he's just proved to me that, you know... I don't know. He's happy, he's made a lot of money. His missus has made a lot of money I wish him the best of health and life. Hope he has a fruitful life and that's it. That's all I have to say on the matter about him." Taking to social media to announce his withdrawal from the bout last year, Fury wrote: "For the one simple reason being that Darren has stated over and over that he does not want to abide by professional boxing rules and that if he is losing the fight, he will resort to kicking and other stupid MMA tactics. "I am a professional boxer, I have been out of the ring for over a year and I wanted this to be a great BOXING fight for the fans. I have wasted weeks in training camp. We are working hard to get a new opponent and date. I promise to get a better opponent and better fight for you guys. Good news around the corner." Fury returned to the squared circle in May to take on Kenan Hanjalic in Budapest, securing a unanimous decision victory after six hard-fought rounds. However, Till has been far more active as of late as he gears up for his third fight of the year against Luke Rockhold on August 30. A former middleweight UFC champion, Till understands that Rockhold isn't to be taken lightly, despite the legend of the game slipping in terms of form when compared to his prime fighting days. He said of his opponent: "He's always going to be dangerous. "Even if you get a little bit older or whatever and you get a few losses or whatever. To be a Strikeforce champion and a UFC champion, you know, you've got to have something about you. So he's definitely dangerous, but I just think what we're both coming up to now, and what we're both facing, just in terms of pure boxing, I just don't see where he's going to give me any problems. "I don't think he's going to be able to keep up for the eight rounds and I just don't think he's going to handle my power, I really don't. That's just me being honest, an honest analogy."
