'I knew Prince Andrew - the explosive new claims fit my impression of his arrogance'

Prince Andrew is the centre of a new biography that makes fresh claims of his behaviour towards staff and obsession with status - and now a royal expert has weighed in on the allegations
As Prince Andrew faces a slew of allegations about his behaviour in a new biography, someone who knew him has confirmed that the portrayal of the royal as 'arrogant, pompous, and obsessed' is accurate.

The book, Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the Yorks, by Andrew Lownie includes claims about Andrew's relationship with Sarah Ferguson, and his supposed rants at staff members.

Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond told The Mirror that Andrew is 'the problem that won't go away' for the royal family. She said: "Every few months now, there seem to be new allegations about Prince Andrew and lurid stories about his behaviour over the years.'

She went on to explain that summer is usually a period of calm for the royals - something which will have been disrupted by the release of the biography.
Bond said: "I'm sure the book will have infuriated Andrew. I have to say, though, that from my own experience of meeting the Duke and my conversations with many people who have known him or worked with him over the years, there is a distinct ring of truth about his portrayal in this book. Arrogant, pompous and obsessed with status was my abiding impression of him."

The book also claimed that Ferguson lived a life of 'opulent excess' which included wild spending on staff, holidays, and parties. The Mirror contacted the Duke and Duchess of York for comment.
While the King is likely to be exasperated by having to read about Andrew's 'shenanigans', Bond said that we should not expect any retaliation as the pair are still brothers. She said: 'I suspect the King will just roll his eyes, probably swear about Andrew under his breath — but then get on with more important things in life.'
Lownie's book is more than 450 pages long and is said to have taken four years to research. He explained on Good Morning Britain that he started writing the biography after the infamous Newsnight interview in which Andrew discussed his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein.
The historian explained: 'The thing with Andrew is you can't believe a word he says.' Lownie also said that Andrew "lost his protector" when his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, died, and that if he were to advise him on communications, he would suggest to Andrew to "keep a low profile" and "try to win back the respect of the British people".
Discussing the title of his book, Lownie said that Andrew was "spoilt as a child" and was never set "any boundaries", which meant that he was always allowed to get away with his behaviour.

The former Deal Or No Deal and Noel's House Party host, 76, plans to divide his time between his property, believed to be in the north of the island, and New Zealand. 'I came for the very first time three years ago, and when you consider I lived in the UK all my life and I knew where it was geographically, I don't know why I didn't come before,' Noel told Manx Radio. 'I have purchased a property on the island, and I intend to spend some of the year here, but my principal home is New Zealand.' Noel dubbed the island 'the Smile of Man' because 'everyone seems so happy' and people 'look out for each other'. Advertisement He added: 'What's drawn me to the Smile of Man… you're bloody proud of the island, you're proud of the community, and across the water there [in the UK], you don't get that anymore.' It comes after ITV axed his Kiwi Adventure series, which aired in June and followed his life in New Zealand with his fifth wife, Liz. Noel, who moved there in 2018, had reportedly hoped the three-parter would become a fixture on the channel, but it failed to be a ratings hit. A TV insider told The Sun earlier this month: 'It's a blow to Noel as he was convinced he was on to a winning idea. Advertisement 'There was a great buzz around the series and it was well received by both viewers and critics alike. 'But it needed big numbers to spark a follow-up and attracting 1-1.5million per episode just wasn't enough.' Noel Edmonds reunites with 90s sidekick Mr Blobby on Good Morning Britain Sources close to Noel confirmed his disappointment but insisted other major factors were behind the decision — namely, the extreme weather. A source close to Noel told us: 'River Haven has been hit badly by flooding, it's made working on the estate almost impossible. Advertisement 'That would have meant filming would have been seriously hampered.' They added: 'As far as Noel is concerned, the show has been put on ice.' The Sun first revealed Noel was returning to TV last year after signing a £1million deal with the ITV. Over the past year he's been spotted making the most of his time on the Isle of Man, with visits to the Southern Agricultural Show in Ballasalla, the Milntown Estate in Ramsey, and even taking in the action at the infamous TT Races. Advertisement "I love the Isle of Man. I've been here a few times before," Noel said previously. 'This is my first TT – I've always wanted to come, and I live in New Zealand so I've travelled 11,000 miles to be here.' Locals who spotted Noel out and about were quick to notice an unusual quirk about the TV star. He frequently wore mismatched shoes - one light brown lace-up boot and one darker slip-on. The entertainer - known off stage as Stockton-on-Tees born Chris Dennis, 45, was one of three names confirmed by the BBC yesterday. Sign up for the Entertainment newsletter Sign up 3 Strictly Come Dancing has signed up drag artist La Voix 3 La Voix, born Chris Dennis, is expected to dance with a tall male pro on the new series as Chris would be almost 6ft in dance shoes La Voix is expected to dance with a male pro on the new series and they are no stranger to our TV screens having previously appeared singing on Britain's Got Talent on ITV and competing on the BBC's RuPaul's Drag Race. A show insider said: 'Producers already trialled having a drag artist on the show in the form of Tayce who actually won the Christmas Special last year with Kai Widdrington. 'La Voix is a bit more of an old-school entertainer who's a little closer to the traditional Strictly audience in terms of style and vibe. 'It's just another example of the Strictly execs constantly pushing at the boundaries and making changes that the show's audiences then have to adapt to.' Any man partnered with La Voix would have to be tall, as Chris is around 5ft 7ins tall in stocking feet and would be almost 6ft in dance shoes. Although this is the first drag artist to appear on the main show in the UK, that's not the case with spin-off shows in other countries. In 2022 the line up on America's Dancing with the Stars included Shangela, real name DJ Pierce, and in 2019 Courtney Act dazzled on the Australian version of the show. Yesterday the BBC also confirmed The Sun's exclusive story that EastEnders story Balvinder Sopal was joining Strictly this year. We revealed last month how she was being lined up to join the show and followed in the footsteps of a long line of actors from Albert Square who competed. 3 La Voix has competed on Britain's Got Talent and RuPaul's Drag Race
