Three Australian stays have earned a spot on the global best luxury hotels list for 2025
The annual list is carefully curated by Robb Report ' s 'Travel Masters' – a panel of 26 luxury travel specialists who spend their days recommending the world's finest stays to some of the most discerning clients. Each expert submitted their top five picks, comprising both dazzling newcomers and old favourites across regions like Europe, America, Africa, Asia and, of course, Oceania. While only the global top ten were ranked, the remaining luxury hotels were grouped by region – and Australia claimed three of the top four spots for Oceania.
The first Australian luxury hotel featured was Mt Mulligan Lodge – an underrated wilderness retreat in Outback Queensland. With a strict cap of just 28 guests at once, this majestic eco-property sits on an expansive 28,000-hectare cattle station beneath the striking silhouette of its namesake tabletop mountain. Robb Report 's Travel Masters praised Mt Mulligan Lodge for being one of the rare luxury outback retreats that welcomes children, offering plenty of activities, including quad biking, sunrise hikes, paddle boarding, barramundi fishing and starlit degustations.
From a staggering $12,045 per night, the newly opened Pelorus Private Island was the second Australian hotel included in the top 50. Rising from the turquoise coral seas near the Great Barrier Reef off Queensland, this ultra-exclusive resort is accessible only by helicopter charter or private yacht. True to its name, the island hosts just one residence made up of five luxurious suites. Every stay on Pelorus includes personalised meals prepped by a private chef, s steady stream of Veuve Clicquot Champagne and fresh island coconuts, and exclusive use of the whole island with experiences like snorkelling, paddle boarding, kayaking and reef excursions. Wouldn't that be nice?
Rounding out the trio of Australia's best luxury hotels is Southern Ocean Lodge on Kangaroo Island. Reopened in 2024 after being incinerated by wildfires, this dramatic oceanfront retreat was reborn with 25 ultra-premium suites, each angled perfectly towards the Southern Ocean. Robb Report touted it as 'the epitome of Australian contemporary coastal style and a luxurious gateway to uniquely Australian nature and wildlife experiences…Not only are there spectacular Southern Ocean views from every room, but exclusive signature experiences included in every stay, like guided cliff top walks, stargazing, sundowners and canapes served with the local kangaroos.'

The Amsterdam hotel just crowned best luxury hotel in the world
There's an abundance of lists on the planet's best places to stay, but if what you're looking for is show-stopping, knockout, over-the-top grandeur, look no further than the Robb Report 's top-50 roundup of the world's most luxurious hotels. It was first published in 2023, curated thanks to insight from the publication's 26 'travel masters' (elite figures from the hotel industry), and it gets refreshed every year. For 2025, there's a new crowning champion – it's (drum roll, please) the Rosewood Amsterdam! So, what's so special about this place? Well, the Robb Report reads: 'Start with its privileged status as one of the last hotels to have permission to open in the UNESCO-listed Canal District. Add choice: 134 ultra-luxe rooms and suites, done by Dutch designer Piet Boon, with canal, city, or courtyard views; or opt for one of five houses beneath traditional sloping beams, each with butler service.' But apparently, the hotel's concierge service is where it really stands out. 'They can pull strings for everything: private Anne Frank tour, helicopter over the tulip fields before the crowds turn up, private entrance to the Rijksmuseum.' Now that is luxury. However, plenty of other iconic hotels claimed a spot on this roundup, including Claridge's, Gleneagles and The Ritz Paris, so read on for the full top 20. These are the top 20 luxury hotels in the world, according to the Robb Report Rosewood Amsterdam Collegio alla Querce, Florence Claridge's, London La Mamounia, Marrakech Son Net, Majorca Eden Rock St Barths Nihi Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia Flockhill Lodge, South Island, New Zealand Le Bristol, Paris, France Villa Mabrouka, Tangier, Morocco Gleneagles, Scotland Hotel Du Cap-Eden-Roc, Antibes, France Passalacqua, Lake Como, Italy Bulgari Hotel Rome, Italy Rosewood Schloss Fuschl, Salzburg, Austria The Beau-Rivage Palace, Lausanne, Switzerland The Ritz Paris, France Blackberry Farm, Tennessee, USA Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge, British Columbia, Canada Fawn Bluff Private Lodge, British Columbia, Canada To check out the full list, head to the website here. White sandy beach in Scotland so 'stunning' it'll save you a plane trip to Australia
A UK beach has been likened to a beach in Australia, with its crystal clear waters and white sandy beaches, meaning you won't have to travel far to see something spectacular. Countless people fantasise about jetting off to Australia to witness its world-renowned coastline, but the flight costs to the opposite side of the globe are eye-watering. Fortunately, Britain boasts some magnificent shores that rival the golden Australian beaches, meaning you needn't venture overseas to discover somewhere spectacular. In fact you don't even have to leave Scotland. Annabel Symonds, a travel specialist and co-founder of Londoner in Sydney, has heaped praise upon Luskentyre Beach, located on Harris Island in the Outer Hebrides. She says it bears an uncanny resemblance to Queensland Beach in Whitsundays, Australia. She said: "That's right, Luskentyre Beach on Harris Island in Scotland reminds us of one of the best beaches in the world." Luskentyre Beach is renowned for its shimmering crystal-clear azure waters that lend the shoreline a tropical feel. It also delivers immaculate white sand that creates a stunning contrast against the sea, reports the Express. The sand is celebrated for its exceptionally fine, almost powder-like quality, which enhances the beach's splendour whilst providing remarkable comfort for visitors wanting to sunbathe, enjoy a picnic or unwind with a good book. Furthermore, the picturesque backdrop of Scotland's rugged emerald hills stretching into the distance transforms Luskentyre Beach into an ideal spot for photographers seeking to capture breathtaking shots. Numerous visitors dedicate time to trekking up Beinn Dhubh, a cluster of neighbouring peaks, to secure the ultimate photograph of those stunning sapphire waters. Annabel stated: "This Scottish beach has water so bright that you'll think you're sailing on the Whitsundays. "If you're lucky, you might even spot some seals and if you're very lucky, see deer wandering around on this beach too." Seals are frequently spotted sunning themselves on rocks near the shore at Luskentyre Beach, but visitors may also catch sight of dolphins, red deer or golden eagles, making it an ideal spot for wildlife watching. Luskentyre Beach has been recognised as one of Europe's "most stunning" beaches by Lonely Planet and was also crowned Beach of the Year in the Countryfile Magazine Awards. The beach is situated adjacent to the village of Luskentyre, a tranquil hamlet adorned with white stone brick cottages where locals occasionally offer horseback rides along the beach. There's also a beach hut shop selling drinks and ice cream, as well as gifts and artwork for those interested in local crafts. Plus, it's conveniently located near the Cake Shed cafe, which offers homemade cakes and scones. Luskentyre Beach is also close to the town of Tarbert, Harris's main ferry port, where there's an abundance of restaurants, cafes, shops and even the renowned Isle of Harris Distillery to discover. What sets Luskentyre Beach apart as a fantastic destination is its relative tranquillity compared to other popular beaches, allowing visitors to enjoy the sights undisturbed.

One of Sydney's best rooftop bars is turning 10 – and they're celebrating with Vegemite-laced cocktails
A British-Australian engineer, Henry Deane was responsible for converting Sydney's original horse-drawn and steam-powered trams to electric power in the 1890s. It's also the name of the classy cocktail lounge perched above the Millers Point pub, Hotel Palisade – named in honour of Deane's whopping big contribution to Sydney. You can really appreciate the beauty of our Harbour City from the top floor of this rooftop bar. It's got the kind of views that make you feel proud as punch to live here – spanning the Harbour Bridge, city skyline, the beginnings of the Parramatta River and even Barangaroo below. And while Mr Deane lives on in the history books, we reckon this would've been one of his favourite spots for a cold one, too. As Time Out's Editor in Chief Alice Ellis said in her five-star review, 'Henry Deane cocktail lounge may just sit atop an old Sydney pub, but an afternoon spent there will have you feeling on top of the whole world.' This year, the swish cocktail bar turns ten – and to celebrate, the team has launched a fresh food and cocktail menu, complete with Vegemite-laced tipples. Classic cocktails are available – and they're done well, too. But why not try the Miss Marshie – made with Ketel One vodka, toasted marshmallow, fizz and pineapple foam – it's fancy and a little bit sweet. For something that tastes like a holiday, go for the Circa 1915, featuring Hotel Palisade Portside gin, coconut, mandarin and makrut lime. Feeling brave? Try the Home Slice, a grown-up riff on an Aussie breakfast staple, made with sourdough bread-soaked vodka, verjuice, charcoal-activated vanilla syrup and Vegemite. It's subtle, elegant and well-balanced. The share-style food menu changes with the seasons – but you can always count on it complementing the cocktails. Kick things off with a finger-like golden potato hash topped with a squiggle of abalone sauce and finished with smoked pork dust. Fresh chopped prawns come with a butter bean dip, fermented honey and a hint of chilli; and marinated grilled chicken is paired with a punchy green sauce and preserved lemon. Next time you've got a friend visiting from Melbourne, or you wanna score a brownie point or two on a first date, head up to the rooftop and order a cocktail at Henry Deane. Promise they're anything but watery. Find out more here. These are the best rooftop bars in Sydney.
